Lebanon's Sidon holds mass wedding to help couples struggling financially
Thirty couples tied the knot at a mass wedding in the southern Lebanese city of Sidon on Thursday (September 3), in an event organisers said aimed to help those struggling financially. The ceremony, organised by 'La Salle' venue owner Sami El Bekai, was attended by about 2,000 people.
Among the newly-weds were Palestinians Shahadeh Mohammed and Rawaa Karam from the Ain el Helweh refugee camp, who had been engaged for two and a half years. Mohammed said he struggled to find enough work to save for a wedding.
El Bekai said couples were selected based on the length of their engagements, adding that he hoped the event, funded through donations, would encourage other businesspeople to support similar initiatives.
