Join me in Ath, Wallonia, for one of Belgium’s most fascinating traditional celebrations. I was there on Sunday, August 23, 2026, for the famous main procession of Ducasse d’Ath.
The procession brought together the seven legendary giants of Ath, spectacular allegorical floats, marching bands, historical groups, traditional characters and Cheval Bayard, the impressive giant horse carrying the four Sons of Aymon. 👹🐴🎺
Among the highlights were Goliath and Madame Goliath, Mademoiselle Victoire, the Two-Headed Eagle, Samson, Cheval Bayard and Saint Christophe de Flobecq, alongside colourful floats and musicians.
Ducasse d’Ath is a centuries-old tradition dating back more than 500 years, and the entire town becomes a huge celebration with food, drinks, live music and funfair attractions. 🎡🇧🇪
2026 was also a special year for the famous final rondeau, when all seven giants came together again, a moment that had not taken place for ten years.
