00:00Prominent businessman Peter George says the statement by a minister stating that the night
00:06of long knives is coming is a reference to the Nazi era.
00:10He tells the Morning Edition it was serious enough to make him consider reporting the
00:15matter to the authorities.
00:17With all of his dog whistling and his fairly, you know, I don't know what's the right word,
00:26untenable comments day in and day out, made a naked, unambiguous forewarning that a political
00:33courage is coming soon, taking out of the playbooks of Hitler.
00:37Now, once you threaten people, that Rubicon is crossed, right?
00:41I actually was thinking of going and filing a police report after that happened because
00:46I, you know, I didn't know who he was speaking about, right?
00:50But when you've crossed that line, I was advised by counsel to, you know, to let it go.
00:55He's also rejecting the continued targeting of the so-called one percent, arguing that they're
01:01not outsiders, but contributors to business, sport, and the wider community of Trinidad
01:07and Tobago.
01:08And I don't want to diminish how people may feel, but it's like a mosquito flying around.
01:13It's just quite frankly now, it's become, it's annoying, it's been played out, and I think
01:19they've taken one isolated situation and turned it into some type of, you know, painting everybody
01:26with a broad brush.
01:27But think about the contributions that we have made to the country, and will continue
01:31to make to the country, and that spirit really will never be taken away.
01:37George says, the new administration now has to tackle ownership of its own record, rather
01:44than be repeatedly revisiting the mistakes of governments before it.
01:49Right, but 18 months later, we don't need to be reminded of the PNM's inadequacies of
01:53the last 18, of the last 10 years.
01:55April 28th of last year spoke to that very, very clearly, right?
01:59But the polarization, specifically politically, Marlon, is actually becoming dangerously inflammatory
02:06now.
02:07He is also questioning the emergency powers and the infringement on constitutional rights.
