President Donald Trump clashed with a reporter over how the U.S. conflict with Iran should be described. The reporter cited the reported deaths of 18 U.S. soldiers and questioned why the administration was avoiding the term “war.” Trump responded that he calls it a “military conflict,” arguing that the fighting is “small potatoes” for the United States. The exchange came amid growing scrutiny over U.S. military operations and the human cost of the escalating confrontation with Iran.

00:00Mr. President, the Vice President said yesterday that he would not describe the conflict with Iran as a war,
00:05but the U.S. resumed strikes for the first time in recent weeks.
00:09Can you explain to the American people, if this is not a war, what exactly is it?
00:12Well, I'll tell you what, a lot of people don't call it a war.
00:15I call it a military conflict because it's small potatoes for us.
00:19It's not a big thing.
00:20We did Venezuela, and we did this.
00:24In Venezuela, we lost nobody.
00:25In this, we lost 18 people.
00:28And in Vietnam, you lost 100,000 people.
00:32And in other conflicts, you lost tens of thousands of people.
00:35I would say that it's intermittent.
00:38You know, we do intermittent strikes.
00:39So I heard what he said, and it was interesting because I think that there's a lot of truth.
00:45We're not fighting right now.
00:46There's no fighting.
00:47We're taking out a lot of oil.
00:48We control the Hormone Strait.
00:50We control it very strongly.
00:53We did a hit on certain areas around the Hormone Strait.
00:57We took out their radar, as you know that very well.
01:00We took out some aircraft.
01:02We took out some other things that protect, for them, used to protect the Hormone Strait
01:05when they had it under very tight control.
01:08But now we control it.
01:10And we're taking it out last night.
01:11We took a lot of boats.
01:12A lot of ships came through.
01:13And they come through every day.
01:15So I can understand what he's saying.
01:17It's a military conflict.
01:19But it's very intermittent.
01:21I could see somebody not calling it away.
01:23But it certainly doesn't feel like small potatoes, Mr. President.
01:2518 people have died.
01:26And this certainly doesn't feel like small potatoes.
01:2818 service members have died.
01:30We're seeing record-long deployments.
01:32You initially said this.
01:33Record-long?
01:33Why is it record-long?
01:34So the 82nd airport is now going to be extended to a year.
01:37How long were we in Vietnam?
01:38We're seeing record-
01:38The U.S. Abraham Lincoln was out for more than 250 days at sea.
01:43And you know what we did in five months?
01:44They're not going to have a nuclear weapon.
01:46That's what we did.
01:47Iran will not have a nuclear weapon.
01:49Because if they did, you probably wouldn't be standing here very long.
01:53Iran will not have a nuclear weapon.
01:54We've stopped them from having.
01:56We may hit pickaxe very soon.
01:58Because if there was anything going on with pickaxe.
02:00But because of all of the things, you know, we're leading in space now by a lot.
02:06When I first took over my first term, we were a distant third to Russia and to China.
02:12We're leading in space.
02:13We know everybody that's moving at pickaxe.
02:17We know everybody that's moving everywhere, all over Iran.
02:21And if anything goes bad, we hit them.
02:23We hit them hard.
02:24But we've been in there for five months.
02:27And in five months, what did we do?
02:29We stopped them from having a nuclear weapon.
02:32If we didn't go in there, you wouldn't have Israel right now.
02:34You wouldn't have the Middle East.
02:35And they probably would go out in European cities and our cities next.
02:39But we stopped them from having a nuclear weapon in five months.
02:42And you know what?
02:43We lost 18 souls.
02:4518 great souls.
02:46I was there to greet the families of those people at Dover.
02:49And they're great.
02:50I got very friendly with some of the families.
02:52They were incredible families.
02:55But one is too much.
02:57But in Vietnam, we lost tens of thousands of people.
03:01In Afghanistan, we lost a lot.
03:04Sleepy Joe Biden lost 13 just by standing at an airport and an airport that they shouldn't
03:10have been in because they should have used Bagram, not the local little airport right
03:13in the middle of the city.
03:14They lost 13.
03:15But they lost 78 people in terms of their arms, their legs, their face was just wiped
03:21out.
03:22You don't mention that.
03:23You don't mention that.
03:25What we've done is amazing.
03:27We took over Venezuela and we have essentially taken over Iran.
03:34Now, there's been no shooting for days before the hit that we gave them the other night
03:39to wipe out their radar.
03:42They had very sophisticated.
03:43They brought in radar because we knocked it out once.
03:46Now we knocked it out twice.
03:47Now we don't notice any activity.
03:49I think they're tired of putting it in and getting blood.
03:51But the Strait of Hormuz is taking a lot of ships.
03:54We're getting a lot of ships out of there.
03:56A lot of oil is coming out of the Strait.
03:58There are no mines whatsoever.
04:00We have no mines.
04:01You know why?
04:02We took out all the mines.
04:03They had some mines.
04:04We took them all with our minesweepers.
04:06They go underwater.
04:07Nobody can see them.
04:07The best in the world.
04:09So we're doing a great job.
04:10And we will, I would say it's a military conflict if you want.
04:16Some people could call to it.
04:17I don't think it matters what you call it.
04:19What matters is the fact that we have had tremendous success.
04:22We stopped Iran from having a nuclear weapon.
04:25When will your Super PAC, MAGA, Inc. start spending on Ken Paxton?
04:29We already did.
04:30Will you spend more?
04:31Well, I have, I think I have like close to a billion dollars in the Super PAC.
04:38And I'm allocating probably four or five hundred million dollars.
04:41So I'll be spending.
04:42We'll be spending.
04:43Well, the midterm election.
04:44Yeah, we're going to spend a lot of money because we don't want to lose our country.
04:48I want to keep these people wealthy, happy, and they have to keep us fed, right?
04:53How do you make that determination of how to spend and what to spend?
04:57How do I make it?
04:58I sit down and I say, let's do this.
05:00Let's do that.
05:00I'm going to be going around.
05:01I'm going to be making contributions to various campaigns of people that I think are
05:07good, Republicans that I think are good, people that I think are going to win and can win
05:13or are close to winning, people that I think we have a chance of doing very well in the
05:18midterms.
05:18Look, history has said that the sitting president, Republican or Democrat, no matter how, I don't
05:23think anybody's had a better first two years than we have.
05:27There's never been anything like it.
05:29Look at the numbers that you see.
05:30Look at the investment numbers of two.
05:32Think of it, $20 trillion coming in.
05:35Nobody's ever had a first two years like we have.
05:38It's not two years yet, but one and a half years.
05:41Nobody's ever had a first one and a half years like we have.
05:44So whether did you see?
05:45I'm going to spend whatever amount of money necessary to try and help us.
05:51And this is money from, this is my money that I control.
05:56Now, this is separate from the RNC.
05:58It's separate from people having money.
06:00And I think it's not even counted in terms of the media.
06:03I'm not sure that they ever talk about it.
06:05They just found out about it.
06:06But yeah, we have around a billion dollars that I can spend.
06:12I can spend for the next race also.
06:14I can spend it for what I want to spend it for.
06:16But I'm going to help a lot of the congressmen and senators that need help.
06:19Do you think we'll save some of that money for 2028?
06:22I could use it for 2028, yes, if I want.
06:25Sure.
06:25I mean, I expect to have money left over, and we can use that for 2028.
