00:00...to all of this, and I'm sure Tim Hutchings is as well.
00:02First event, Women's 400. Evening, Tim.
00:05Thanks, Steve. Yes, evening, everybody.
00:07The athletes out on the track and ready to go in the stadium,
00:11which is 3,000 or 4,000 more populated than last night.
00:15Let's have a look at this really strong field.
00:17Natalia Bukowiecka, the Olympic bronze medalist for Poland,
00:20goes in lane 8, very consistent.
00:26There is, she goes in 8.
00:28There's Aliyah Butler of the USA.
00:30She was US champion this summer.
00:32Only her second race since winning those US championships back in late July.
00:36Close second to Paulino in Monaco.
00:38She's in fine form.
00:40Talk about fine form.
00:41This is the reigning European champion, Norwez Henrietta Jäger,
00:43goes in lane 6.
00:45Fabulous progress this last couple of years.
00:48A national record for that European championship goal in Birmingham.
00:51In 5, the world number 1, the Olympic champion, Marilena Paulino of Dominica,
00:55has 6th of the top 10 times this year.
00:57Unbeaten this season.
00:59Good lane draw for her too.
01:01The third fastest athlete in history.
01:03In lane 4, the Czech Lourdes Gloria Manuel,
01:06the world indoor champion from Poland last March.
01:09Fourth in those European championships,
01:10but several meters off the medals.
01:12But she has had a great season.
01:13Her 6 fastest times ever all this year.
01:17Nikisha Price, 8th in the world championships last year.
01:19The Jamaican set a season's best in her last race last Sunday in Borussia.
01:24That was 49.27.
01:26She's the 9th fastest in history.
01:28Roxana Gomez of Cuba, 6th in the world championships last year.
01:32Very short, just 5'7".
01:34And only 9th in shorts of 13 days ago.
01:37I wonder if she's feeling it tired now, the Cuban in two.
01:40And there's Elena Ponet, 7th in the European championships,
01:44where she set a personal best in her semifinal in Birmingham.
01:47Great relay run too for Belgium.
01:50Big roar for her, of course.
01:51Took gold in the mixed 4x400 meters relay at the world indoors back in March.
01:55But hasn't raised since the European championships final,
01:58Ponet, in lane 1.
02:01Well, Paulino goes in lane 5.
02:04Butler goes in 7.
02:08She could be a challenger here.
02:10She was close to Paulino in Monaco a few weeks back.
02:13As I say, only a second race in the last, what, 6 or 7 weeks.
02:21She's in 7.
02:23Jaeger, the European champion, goes in 6.
02:25Paulino, the Olympic champion, world number 1, goes in 5.
02:30Starts here as favourite.
02:32World Indoor champion Manuel in 4.
02:40Well, looks like as ever in the pink.
02:42Jaeger, third from left there in the lane 6.
02:45Has gone off very hard, very early.
02:47Paulino, a nice measured first 150 there into the back straight.
02:51Tallest in the race.
02:52Lovely looking runner.
02:53Price there, Nikisha Price in lane 3.
02:56Working hard through 200 meters.
02:58Jaeger has committed here.
02:59She leads through 200.
03:01Chasing hard, though, Aliyah Butler, who has also gone out very hard the first 250.
03:05But here comes Paulino with that punching style of hers.
03:09Round the bend.
03:09Stagger unwinds in her favour.
03:11And into the straight with a lead.
03:13Although great running in lane 3-2 from Nikisha Price.
03:17But look at Paulino, that long raking stride.
03:20She just will not slow down.
03:22Brilliant from her.
03:23Taking it by 4 meters there.
03:25Superb run from Jaeger, too.
03:27That might be a lifetime best from Jaeger.
03:2949-04 she ran to win the European Championships.
03:33Let's wait and see as the times come up.
03:35Paulino, a meeting record.
03:3748-64.
03:38And that meeting record goes to Sanya Richards-Ross back in 2009.
03:44Wow, 17 years it survived, but Paulino takes it down here tonight.
03:48Jaeger, 49-20.
03:50Very close to her lifetime best and Norwegian record.
03:53And Nikisha Price, well, that is quite some name to take down for Jaeger.
03:57Nikisha Price, the ninth fastest in history.
04:00Steve, a lovely race, but it's inevitable, isn't it?
04:03Again and again, Paulino...
