Vehicle developed with Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations can be operated using a tablet and joystick, allowing crews to work in higher-risk areas without direct exposure

Rostec and Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations have unveiled a new specialized vehicle based on a KAMAZ truck, developed to carry out firefighting operations by remote control. The system is designed to allow emergency crews to operate from a greater distance in areas with high temperatures, dense smoke, or a risk of structural collapse.

The project was developed by Vysokotochnye Kompleksy, a Rostec holding company, together with the All-Russian Research Institute for Fire Protection. The vehicle is being displayed at the Integrated Security international exhibition in Kazan.

The main difference compared with a conventional fire truck is its automation system. The operator can control the vehicle and its equipment using a tablet and joystick, monitoring the operation without having to remain in the immediate vicinity of the fire.

Despite its remote-operation capability, the KAMAZ retains conventional controls, allowing it to be driven normally when conditions are considered safe.

Cameras installed around the vehicle provide a panoramic view of the surroundings, helping the operator navigate and monitor operations during the day or at night. The setup may also be useful in situations where visibility from the cab would be limited by smoke or other obstacles.
