00:00And the people of Chile commemorate the 53rd anniversary of the 1973 coup d'etat against Salvador Allende
00:07and the establishment of the dictatorship led by Augusto Pinochet.
00:10The traditional pilgrimage to the General Cemetery of Santiago de Chile was organized by human rights groups
00:16and political parties such as the Communist Party and the Broad Front to pay tribute to the victims and detainees
00:23who disappeared during the military dictatorship.
00:26During the event which called for truth, justice and compensation for the families for the damages suffered
00:33a floral offering was made to the victims who had been identified
00:37while more than a thousand names of the disappeared whose remains for the most part have not yet been found
00:45are represented at the monument.
00:48The event is part of the activities leading up to another commemoration of the coup d'etat of September 11,
00:531973
00:54which brought an end to the government of President Salvador Allende
00:58and marked the beginning of Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship which lasted until 1990.
01:10It's such a long-running issue that I hope it works out.
01:14I hope it ends well, but we'll always be living with uncertainty until our family members are found.
01:23We can't find peace of mind because of this.
01:27Well, on the Sunday before the 11th, like every Sunday in September,
01:31people make the pilgrimage to the General Cemetery to commemorate, in fact,
01:35the crimes of the dictatorship and our fallen and disappeared victims of political persecution.
01:40Furthermore, this march has a very special message, no to pardons.
01:44Therefore, we march for our fallen but also against impunity in Chile.
01:48Thank you!
