00:11Hello Civ fans. Ed Beach here, Creative Director for Civilization 7.
00:1635 years ago this month, Sid Meier and his small but mighty team designed a game themed around a deceptively
00:24simple question.
00:25Can you make playing with history fun?
00:28Since 1991, millions of you have answered that question.
00:33You've founded cities, built world wonders, waged wars, and brokered peace treaties.
00:40You've stayed up all night for just one more turn.
00:43Over the years, the team here at Firaxis Games has had the incredible honor of continuing to build upon this
00:50legacy
00:50and are humbled to celebrate 35 years of civilization with you all today.
00:56It's an incredibly rare and special milestone for any entertainment franchise to achieve in this industry,
01:02and it would not be possible without decades of passion from all of you, our amazing community.
01:08So to everyone who has guided humanity from the cradle of time to the modern era, thank you.
01:15Since we're celebrating 35 years of the Civ franchise, what better time than now to share a bit more about
01:22where Civ 7 is headed next.
01:24Everything we're about to share is work in progress, so keep in mind details are subject to change.
01:36First, we are excited to announce that work is well underway on our next major free update, which we're calling
01:42the Arc of Tomorrow.
01:44This free update extends the playable timeline of Civilization VII into the near future by introducing a brand new fourth
01:51age, the Atomic Age.
01:53As with all ages in the game, the Atomic Age includes a full suite of unique, period-specific gameplay, visuals,
02:00civs, leaders, and more.
02:02Produce new units and buildings, and bring your settlements to life like never before with sweeping urban city architecture.
02:09Deploy new technology, civics, and policies that reflect the developments of our shared recent past and our near future.
02:16Plus, enjoy a whole host of new triumphs, narrative events, civs, music, and more, including a fan-favorite leader who's
02:25making his return.
02:26That said, we certainly can't enter the Atomic Age without upping the ante on nuclear gameplay, can we?
02:39As the Atomic Age implies, nuclear proliferation is one of the core gameplay pillars in this free update.
02:45This age covers a period of history where nuclear arms became more ubiquitous among major world powers.
02:50We wanted to arm players with a broader set of tools to build their empire's nuclear arsenal,
02:56and to de-escalate political tensions as the threat of mutually assured destruction looms ever larger.
03:02We're expanding your nuclear options through new technologies and nuclear-capable units to deploy.
03:06Plus, we're bringing nuclear tension into diplomacy and espionage so you can propose global disarmament agreements
03:13or send spies into the shadows to sabotage weapon programs and keep rival leaders guessing about your true capabilities.
03:20We're also adding a lethal twist on mutually assured destruction by introducing a one-turn delay on nuclear attacks.
03:28When a rival civ launches a nuclear strike, it won't hit instantly.
03:32You'll have a critical window to react, choosing to deploy your defenses and prevent a catastrophe,
03:36or unleash a desperate retaliatory strike of your own, taking your rivals down with you.
03:43As mentioned earlier, expanded nuclear gameplay is just one pillar of the Arc of Tomorrow update.
03:48We're actively exploring some other exciting gameplay concepts, including new diplomatic actions,
03:54new victories, an evolution of independent powers that enable proxy warfare for the first time in Civ history,
04:00and maybe even a few deadly mechanical scraps of metal walking into the future.
04:05We have much more to share on all of this in the coming months, and can't wait to hear what
04:11you think.
04:19Before we leave, we have one more announcement today.
04:22Back in 1968, the crew of Apollo 8 looked back at Earth from space.
04:29This moment changed our perspective of our home planet, leading to the creation of Earth Day and inspiring millions of
04:36people around the world.
04:38That sense of awe is the inspiration for our first expansion, Civilization VII Earthrise, which will launch after the free
04:47Arc of Tomorrow update.
04:49Our goal with Earthrise is to introduce new, strategic gameplay anchored around your Empire's understanding of the Solar System and
04:58our planet's place within it.
04:59Beginning in the Antiquity Age, your people can chart the night sky and determine the names of the celestial bodies
05:06in the heavens above.
05:07As you move into exploration, zoom out to see your world positioned inside a Solar System that is either reflective
05:14of our own,
05:15or a new procedurally generated one, yet to be uncovered.
05:19By the modern age, you'll engage in early spaceflight, taking humanity's very first steps towards the stars.
05:26And when you reach the atomic age, you'll establish your own space agency and launch missions to explore the Solar
05:35System.
05:35By doing so, you'll survey the nearest moons and planets, discovering planetary features and untapped resources.
05:43Successfully completing space missions yields powerful rewards and bonuses for your civilization.
05:48Earthrise isn't just about looking up. It's also about taking care of what's below.
05:55You'll have a suite of new tools to better adapt to and manipulate the environment across the course of a
06:03campaign.
06:04We'll have more detail to share in the future about other new gameplay features, civilizations, and leaders coming with the
06:12expansion.
06:12Be sure to add Earthrise to your wishlist today to be the first to know when new details drop.
06:30As we wrap up today, I again wanted to express our gratitude for the ongoing feedback and support from the
06:38civilization community.
06:39We're excited for where Civ 7 is headed next and are eager to hear what you think.
06:44To that end, we'll be officially reopening the Firaxis Feature Workshop, our playtesting group.
06:51So you can jump in and help provide feedback on these major new updates coming to the game, including both
06:58the Atomic Age and the Earthrise expansion.
07:00So head over to our website for more details, including instructions on how you can sign up.
07:06In the meantime, be sure to check out our new 1.5.0 update, which includes true Earthstart, along with

07:16That update will be in players' hands later this month.
