A building collapse in Delhi's Satyaniketan area has led to the death of seven people, including five Delhi University students, and left twelve others injured. According to the First Information Report registered by the Delhi Police, the building owners knowingly constructed four additional floors atop the decades-old structure to maximise rental income from a paying guest facility. The FIR notes that ongoing construction and excavation in the basement placed excessive strain on the weak foundation, exceeding the structure's load-bearing capacity. Police have arrested building owner Hariram Bansal, his wife Urmila, and their son Abhishek. Charges have been invoked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash acts endangering life, and negligence in construction. Hariram and Urmila have been sent to 14-day judicial custody, while their son remains in police remand. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is also assessing adjacent compromised structures in the area.

00:00And now shifting our focus back to the Satya Niketan building collapse.
00:04Major revelations in the FIR.
00:07Allegations of adding four floors driven by greed for rental income.
00:12Construction continued despite knowledge that the foundation could not bear the extra load.
00:17The police have leveled serious allegations in the FIR registered regarding the building collapse in Delhi's Satya Niketan on Sunday.
00:24According to the FIR, the building owner Hariram Bansal and his brother,
00:29allegedly constructed four additional floors atop the decades-old building driven by the desire for rental income.
00:36Police state that the owners were aware that the old building's foundation was incapable of withstanding the additional weight.
00:43Despite this, new construction work on the building continued.
00:47The FIR notes that the additional floors and new construction placed excessive strain on the building's structural integrity and load
00:55-bearing capacity,
00:56are causing it to exceed its limits.
00:59Consequently, the building suddenly collapsed.
01:02My colleague Arvind Dojwa is now joining us with more details on this.
01:06Arvind, there is a great knowledge that the allegations were found that the structure was too small, too old.
01:14But the twenty-four floors were made made up of 4 floors.
01:27Arvind, there is a full authority over 4 floors on it.
01:44It was quite a bit difficult and there were 4 people who were made in this case, when the construction
01:51of this work was done,
01:52it was a building and then it was a building.
01:57There were 7 people who were dead.
02:00This was the F.I.R. from Delhi Police.
02:03and the three accused of the police in this place
02:08where Hari Ram, his wife and his son Abhishek
02:12were arrested.
02:14And the son of Abhishek was arrested
02:16and took the police custody and took the police to the next question.
02:21And only four floors,
02:24we also had a clue that we had a clue
02:26that the basement was still running
02:28without the whole building to remove the whole building.
03:00Yes, absolutely.
03:01Yes, absolutely.
03:34Yes, Arvind, thank you very much for your knowledge.
05:55beds you end up constructing more floors without approval and that's what had happened in this
06:01particular case as well that's what the FIR is pointing at that because of the greed of more
06:08rent the owner of this particular building had constructed four additional floors and the
06:16building did not had the load bearing capacity because of this possibly this tragedy happened
06:23along with that one more thing has come out that you know the investigation will go on seven people
06:29have died that have been mentioned in the FIR as well and 12 were injured in in because of this
06:37tragedy what we are given to understand that all of these details of those dead of you know those
06:44who sustained injuries all of that will be also part of the investigation from here on it there is
06:51no direct charge of murder this is culpable homicide that has been pressed against the accused in this
06:58particular case but there are bigger questions Anjali as well there's a story of a building owner
07:05who is greedy who built up floors after floors but the question is also whether the police around the
07:11area was not seeing when those floors were being built up number one what was the MCD officer doing
07:17on the ground when illegal construction was happening what was the electricity department doing when
07:23the bills must have been increased because when you build on floor after floor your approved load is
07:29something else the uses could be completely different same goes for the water department and these are the
07:35questions Anjali you would remember we were asking even when that Malvianagar fire incidents had happened
07:41in that particular case as well we had seen as to how multiple organizations institutions in this
07:48national capital had failed to do their job and same is the case in this particular incident as well
07:55where is the accountability of people who are heading those institutions why are questions not being asked
08:02from MCD but today I will also get you these visuals that are coming from the ground Anjali you will
08:08see these you know
08:10a support system being given to this particular building what we are given to understand that as the day progresses
08:18in a phase wise manner this building will be also brought down by the MCD because they fear it is
08:24now unsafe the building in which that tragedy had happened
08:28that was right next to this building and after the collapse in normal cases as well you see other buildings
08:38also get the safety of those buildings
08:40also get compromised so that action will be also happening today here at satyanate and back to you all right
08:46thank you for those details so FIR has been registered charges have been leveled against the owner
08:52you know
08:52you
