00:01Fire crews found 46-year-old Kylie McHugh's body in the ground floor unit,
00:06Dinbel Connan, on May 18, and she couldn't be revived.
00:10Police later announced that they were treating the fire as suspicious and the death as a homicide.
00:15This morning, 27-year-old construction worker Jack Henry Curtin faced the ACT Magistrates Court charged with murder and arson.
00:22The court heard investigators discovered five ignition points in the unit, including in the victim's bedroom,
00:27and they believed she was dead before the fire took hold, with injuries to her neck.
00:32Police say their investigation is ongoing.
00:35Numerous forensic samples were obtained from the residents, we've spoken to witnesses.
00:40There are people in the community who know more about Kylie's death and I'm encouraging them to come forward.
00:47Seeking bail, Mr Curtin's lawyer argued his employment and caring responsibilities, as well as deteriorating health, were grounds for his
00:54conditional release.
00:55But the Magistrates said they didn't meet the special or exceptional circumstances required and refused the application.
01:01He was remanded in custody to return to court next month.
