00:03our Sun is old around 4.5 billion years old but unlike other cosmic bodies in our solar system
00:09we can't just set a spaceship down on its surface and inspect it to figure out its history which is
00:14why experts are now saying if we want to know more about the Sun we should start by looking
00:18at the moon universe today reports that the Sun is constantly giving off a steady stream of high
00:23energy particles those particles embed themselves in pretty much everything and in fact identifying
00:28those particles is one aspect of how carbon dating works but on earth too many other factors such as
00:33weather the oceans even man may affect those readings and that's why the moon could be so
00:38valuable in getting a clearer picture of the Sun's history it's a dead world without any of those
00:42things to muddy up the results and in fact the paper outlines how the moon's previous volcanic
00:46activity might even aid in the process as lava flows lock in layers of its history sealing them
00:52off and trapping them like a geological filing cabinet for easier cataloging or what the
00:56authors of the study say makes the moon a sort of solar time capsule
