00:00And the city of Cali in southwest Colombia began controlled demolition work on Monday
00:05on the structures damaged by the 7.4 magnitude earthquake destructed nation last August 10th,
00:10which left 331 dead and 4,505 injured.
00:14One of the first buildings to be demolished was the Maria Lloreda building located in
00:19Cuarto de Legua neighborhood, where a technical team carried out the work in reverse piece
00:24by piece from the top and without explosives to protect neighboring buildings, and safely
00:29removed that debris.
00:30The mayor of Cali, Alejandro Eder, stated that the first 11 buildings to be demolished have
00:36already been identified, emphasizing that the process will be carried out with the proper
00:39support for the affected families.
00:41The August 10th earthquake has left until now at least 52,000 homes with reported damage.
