00:02A new round of tariffs on American goods has just taken effect in Canada, the latest move
00:07in a trade fight that keeps getting more hostile.
00:10Canada is now hitting about $20 billion worth of U.S. products with tariffs as high as 50%.
00:15They kicked in just after midnight and cover hundreds of products, everything from aluminum
00:21foil and cheese to clothing and steel.
00:25Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says the tariffs are designed to match the latest
00:29U.S. levies dollar for dollar.
00:31We made the right decision to suspend our trade negotiations with the United States.
00:36We couldn't accept what they'd offered.
00:39We wouldn't give what they'd asked.
00:42As a result, the U.S. has imposed new tariffs designed to hurt and divide us.
00:48Now, that's a miscalculation, because Canadians will always take care of each other.
00:56President Trump has already threatened to go further.
00:58He says tariffs on Canadian-made cars and auto parts could double to 50% in January.
01:03And now he's taking aim at one of Canada's biggest aerospace companies.
01:08On Monday, Trump threatened to block Bombardier from selling its planes in the United States
01:12unless the company builds them in the United States.
01:15On Truth Social, he wrote,
01:18No more selling Bombardier in the United States.
01:20Their products aren't good enough.
01:22Accusing Canada of blocking American companies from its market.
01:25Trump said if Bombardier wants access to American buyers, they must build here.
01:31While Canada has shown no sign of backing down, the U.S. is Canada's largest trading partner,
01:36and Canada is the second biggest market for American exports.
01:40For now, most trade between the two countries is still moving without these new tariffs.
01:44But Trump has repeatedly warned he could continue responding if Canada follows through.
01:49This morning, Canada has.
