00:31Hallo Appo, nice to meet you.
00:34Oh, hi. Hello Tom, nice to meet you too. Hello everyone as well.
00:38Yes, thanks that you have time for us. En welkom Sitske.
00:43Hi.
00:43Hi. He is a Turkish. I understand he is Turkish and
00:52he is fighting for Ukraine.
00:55Then I'm intrigued. Appo, can you explain how you became a Ukrainian soldier?
01:03One of the reasons I came to here is because of my family part. They are from Ukrainian.
01:10So, the second reason I was like, all of my life was serving with the Turkish military.
01:18And it's like, when I got retired from Turkish military, I started like, civilian life is technically not for me.
01:25And one time I just came to Ukraine and I saw it and I just want like, my ex-parents,
01:33you can help them and my clonage to build something with them and to just help Ukraine.
01:43Because after they headed the hospital at Ukraine in 2022, I understood that I need to do something because of
01:53my part of my family from here.
01:55So, this is the main reason to join the town, the Ukrainian army forces.
02:01Very good reason to do that. I'm impressed that you didn't get drafted. You are a volunteer in the Ukrainian
02:10army.
02:13Yes.
02:14All right. I'm deeply impressed. I was drafted. So, I was not very happy in the army. But you, what
02:25was your occupation in the Turkish army? What did you do there?
02:31So, at the Turkish military, I was as an infantry commander. I've been at the Syria, ZAAP, Iraq. So, I've
02:42been in many operations at the Zaydindalı.
02:47And we were serving all of my life, I can say, from 20 to 36 years old. I was like
02:55in the military.
02:56And mostly, we just like, the operation at the Syria. At least, we was fighting also with the Russians over
03:05there.
03:06So, okay. Yeah. The experience with the Russians you already had. Yeah.
03:12I do have.
03:13Yeah. And now you are in the 9th unmanned. Is that a battalion? Is that, what is the 9th unmanned?
03:24Yeah. Right now, currently, I'm serving with the 9th unmanned system at 6th battalion of NRK, which is the, in
03:34Ukraine, the, only the 1st NRK battalion.
03:37We have always around more than 100 NRK, I mean, UAV ground drones. We call NRK. So, we do, to
03:51the front, at the Kupia's direction, right now, we're serving.
03:53And we will supply every day to our brothers ammunition, some important stuff. So, at least, like, minimum, we will
04:07send to the front about 1,000, 2,000 kilograms, like 1,000, 2,000 tons, some supply.
04:14Why? Because we are not working only for 9 brigades. We also touch with another brigades, who is in the
04:21front and hold line, and we have to help them.
04:27So, this is only our battalion. We work with the logistics stuff, with the ground drones, because now, at the
04:35Ukraine, everything has changed.
04:36And now, the important thing is ground drones, I think, because they are really safe. Everyone's life, they are really
04:43the good job.
04:44Okay. I'll talk in Dutch a bit to explain what you said and explain what the unmanned is doing.
05:43Epo, the first thing I want to ask you is, did you have the chance to choose your battalion or
05:52did you have just, you go there?
05:55Technically, I was before Pius at the Legion and when my commander left the Legion and he was like joined
06:03the 9th Brigade and just he invited me, he said like, Epo, would you like to come to me?
06:07I was like, yeah, why not? And I was the first foreigner at the 9th and NAMED system, but then
06:14after me, we just like start bring all my friends to me and now we are working as a team.
06:22So we have a choice like to join, to help them. But for me, I can like, if I compare
06:29it with the previous unit, I do have like many years experience in the Ukrainian.
06:33But if I compare it with another brigade, now is a NAMED system is really like the most important things.
06:41So everybody try to join, to get more experience with the technology, because also we created many things.
06:48We have like warehouse. So we will every day try to do new things.
06:54Yeah, I like to hear that. Yeah, yeah. So you're changing the systems, you're making them more practical.
07:05Is the 9th a company that is in front of others? Is it there where they make the new weapons
07:16or is it one of the places where it's happening?
07:23Actually, it's both, because sometimes we get it like ready once, but it's not going to be successfully.
07:30And then our engineers try to change something at the drones and it's coming more successfully.
07:37Okay. Now I have a question. I'm not sure whether you want or can answer. No problem if you can't,
07:43but I'm going to ask it anyway.
07:45There's political unrest in Ukraine. The minister has gone, the minister of defense.
07:51He was one of, I think, your guys, because he was a technical guy. He wanted to change.
07:58He wanted that army units can change and can do things and develop more.
08:04The old guards, the old generals, they say, no, we do it our way. And the old guards, they saved
08:14Ukraine in 2022.
08:17Let's be honest about that. But the war has changed.
08:20Is that political unrest something you are aware of and maybe not very happy with? Or is it something you
08:31say, well, it's not for me and let's keep that in Kiev?
08:36Actually, we can say just let's keep it for the Kiev, because I'm not Ukrainian. I'm just like, I don't
08:44want to talk about politicals, you know.
08:46Okay. No problem. But it's something, yeah, it's right now. It's just, yeah, the fighting between the new army, which
08:56you are part of, and the old army, the tanks and the artillery.
09:00That is not as important as it used to be, because, yeah, the war changed. And I'm not happy that
09:09it's like now in politics, but I can understand it's politics.
09:14You are in the army. Let's focus on the army. And let's focus on your tasks.
09:21And you have to do things with those ground drones. What are the things you are doing with those ground
09:29drones in your unit?
09:32So one important part of our work is using UAV, ground drones.
09:39We can safely deliver ammunition, because at this war, 65, 70, maybe I can tell you like 80%, our brothers
09:52didn't get injured or wounded at the position.
09:58Mostly when we will drop the position, or when we, like, drop the ammunition.
10:05So technically, ground drones, they are now doing what the logistic systems, all the systems doing right now with the
10:14new technology, we will do.
10:15So our main task, firstly, to save our brothers at the position, as much we can, like, less, get injured,
10:26get wounded.
10:27Yeah.
10:27But logistic is not only part of what we do. We also, like, support operation.
10:32This is very important.
10:34Who is, who was at the front, like, FPV drones guys, Mavic, Heavy Bomber, also some of guys working with
10:43the Winx, Winx drones, we said, like, about deep straight.
10:48We also do this.
10:53It's like, those ground drones, I told you, can you imagine, like, okay, do you have a pickup, let's say,
11:00for example, truck, but this truck is not, can handle about six, seven,
11:04hundred kilograms bombs bombs, and the ground, at least, it's like, it's not possibility to move very safely area, but
11:14those ground drones, they care, six, seven hundred kilograms, and they go position, another, another, another, it's like, ten position,
11:24and one day, they will go to all our logistics, and back to the position, and just, like,
11:33very successfully, and the most important, we didn't lose our brothers, so, the main task, just to do supply, emanation,
11:44and help the FPV guys, and bomber guys, for them.
11:51And then, I have some questions, 80% is logistics, and the 20% is the interesting part, but also
12:01important, but logistics, of course, also.
12:04Your ground drones, are they taking the bombs to the enemy, and then blow themselves up, or are they dropping
12:13bombs over there, and blow those bombs up on distance?
12:19Is that part of your job, is that part of your job, as well?
12:23Yeah, so, technically, for now, we have a project for our ground drones to do this job, but right now,
12:32we are just, who is at the front, working with the heavy bomb,
12:38our ground drones, our ground drones, take from the safety position, to them, supply, and they just, like, unload the
12:46ground drones, and ground drones back to us.
12:50For now, we do this job.
12:54And in the future?
12:58Yes, in the future, as soon as, which is, I'm very excited, and I'm very thankful to you guys.
13:05So, we have also, we call, kamikaze drone, ground drone.
13:10That kamikaze drone, and also, of course, we have, like, machine gun drones, many things, but this is, like, operational,
13:17and we cannot give many details about that.
13:20Which is the, I'm going to say, like, war is very changed, and now, we have one project, technically, it
13:32looks like about two or three weeks, start work on the front.
13:40Our project is going to be, like, we have also some ground drones, which is the going to the enemy
13:46zone, and blow up for the logistic of enemy, or kind of like this.
13:51But, if you have to cross to the line, you know, it's, like, FPV, each 10 second, each 15 second,
14:00you have FPV, it's, like, craziness, really craziness.
14:04I've never, ever saw that much FPV was at the front.
14:09But, now, we want, like, had a project, we have a launcher system, and this launcher system stay from the
14:17front, like, 15 kilometers.
14:19And, they are just, like, lifted up, and go directly to the enemy, with control of the pilot, and hit
14:28the enemies.
14:29So, what is the reason here for reusing this system?
14:32Firstly, we do not lose our ground drones.
14:37And, second thing is, our ground drones stay, like, 20, 15 kilometers, and it's, like, just, also, like, looks like
14:46logistic, but with the launcher, just, like, lifted up, hit the target, and when is the finish, the mission, I'm
14:51back, and we didn't lose.
14:53Oké, let me explain it in Dutch, for the viewers, that might be helpful.
16:07Ik vertel het in Dutch, en nu is de, my question is, hoe kan we help from the Netherlands, from
16:15Belgium
16:16to make sure you get enough money or gronddrones to do dit?
17:09I was like, technically, mostly,
17:13if volunteers niet help ons,
17:18trust me, tot nu we kunnen niet fighten.
17:22Oké.
18:03Appo, thank you.
18:05I suggest we go to Sitske.
20:49Sitske, dankjewel.
20:50Eppo, thanks, and hopefully we'll talk to you again in a few weeks.
20:57Thanks, Sol.
20:59Firstly, I would love to say I'm very nice to meet you.
21:02I would love to say also thank you that you gave me this chance.
21:06That's for an interview, it was like amazing.
21:09And I would love to say thanks to everyone who got able to support us.
21:14And also I would love to say thanks, big thanks to Stacey, always.
21:19She's like beside our shoulders all the time.
21:24Yeah, and in the future, yes, for sure.
21:27I would love to keep info, keep update, keep how it's going with our new technology.
21:36I would appreciate an update later on.
21:41And I wish you very much success.
21:45I hope the war is over soon, but I'm afraid it will take some years.
21:49I hope to see you later.
22:01Dankjewel.
22:02Thank you both.
22:03And speak to you later.
22:06Thanks.
22:08Bye-doei.
22:10Bye-doei.
