00:00Did you feel betrayed by it?
00:03I felt humiliated.
00:07Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most outrageous lies
00:12celebrities tried to pass off that were eventually sniffed out by the public.
00:16And it's so unfortunate. Your very name has become an adverb for lying.
00:21Number 30. SZA.
00:23If people already love you for your music, there's no need to lie just to impress them.
00:27R&B singer SZA told fans that she had never owned a TV,
00:31only for a picture to emerge of her supposedly with one she owned.
00:34Then she said her freckles were natural. They weren't.
00:37And that she wasn't, quote, a cake or pie person, but had been photographed enjoying a birthday cake.
00:43That all paled in comparison to her claim of earning a degree in marine biology from an Ivy League school.
00:51In reality, she had enrolled in Delaware State University for that program,
00:55but dropped out to pursue music.
00:57Considering how well that worked out,
00:58it's a mystery why she felt the need to tweak the story.
01:10Number 29. Dakota Johnson.
01:13Architectural Digest's Open Door series gifts fans an inside look at their favorite celebrities' homes.
01:18In March 2020, viewers got a peek inside Dakota Johnson's stylishly private abode,
01:23complete with vintage sofas, a serene backyard oasis,
01:26and a gorgeous green kitchen with a bowl of limes.
01:29While giving the tour,
01:31Johnson pointed out the limes and professed her undying love for them.
01:34I love limes. I love them. They're great.
01:37I love them so much, and I like to present them like this in my house.
01:40However, it turns out this was a bold-faced lie.
01:44Apparently, the fruits had been placed there as set dressing without Johnson's knowledge,
01:47and because they were too hard to ignore, she just went along with it.
01:51In fact, not only does she not love limes,
01:53she's actually mildly allergic to them.
01:56Now, what do you do with all of those limes?
01:59I actually didn't even know that they were in there.
02:02I was giving the tour and went into the kitchen, and it was set dressing.
02:06I'm actually allergic to limes.
02:08Oh my, stop it now.
02:10Number 28. Victoria Beckham.
02:12Victoria Beckham reveals she had her breast implants removed in the upcoming issue of Allure magazine.
02:18After giving birth to her first son in 1999,
02:21fans noticed something had changed about Victoria Beckham.
02:23Her bust size had gotten dramatically bigger.
02:26Sure, motherhood comes with a myriad of physical changes,
02:29but this one seemed a little too enhanced.
02:31Back then, Beckham shut down rumors of cosmetic surgery,
02:35insisting that she was, quote,
02:36"...completely natural."
02:37According to the former Spice Girl,
02:39her increased bust size was a result of support tape and push-up bras.
02:43The denials continued until 2005,
02:45when her lawyers let it slip that she had actually undergone breast augmentation.
02:49But it would take until 2014 for Beckham to finally confess herself,
02:53revealing that she had removed the implants and regretted ever having them in the first place.
02:58And she does say she regretted it, and she was very insecure about the way she looked.
03:02Number 27. Olivia Jade.
03:04Getting into a prestigious university can be tough.
03:07Unless, of course, your wealthy, well-connected parents are willing to grease a few palms.
03:11The daughter of fashion designer Massimo Giannulli and actress Lori Loughlin,
03:14Olivia Jade was at the center of a scandal in 2019 due to her parents paying to get her admitted
03:20into the University of Southern California.
03:22This morning, Olivia Jade Giannulli is at the center of a new twist in the college admissions scandal.
03:28Laura, do you want to say anything to the other young students out there?
03:30A scandal that has already engulfed her parents,
03:33actress Lori Loughlin and fashion designer Massimo Giannulli,
03:36who were fighting charges they paid $500,000 in bribes to get their daughters into USC.
03:42Prosecutors charged them with fraud and bribery and uncovered a fake athletic profile
03:47that painted Jade as a champion rower, despite never having played the sport.
03:51The deception also included staged pictures of Jade and her sister Isabella posing on rowing machines.
03:56Although both girls initially secured spots at USC,
04:00their enrollment didn't last long once the truth emerged.
04:02Olivia Jade, not to try to take one of those legitimate spots of another athlete,
04:09I just think is deplorable and she didn't address that.
04:13Number 26, Hassan Minhaj.
04:15This former Daily Show correspondent was a shoo-in to take over as host
04:19until the New Yorker published an article accusing him of embellishing the stories in his stand-up routines.
04:24In Minhaj's special, The King's Jester,
04:26he recounted receiving an envelope of white powder he initially believed was anthrax.
04:31The powder then spilled on his daughter and he rushed her to the hospital only to learn it was harmless.
04:35He detailed another story about an FBI informant infiltrating his mosque and physically assaulting him.
04:41It was kind of storytelling and it turns out that he made a lot of it up and said,
04:46he kept on using the phrase with me, there was an emotional truth to it.
04:49So, you know, and I think what he means by that is, he's right.
04:53People after 9-11 who are Muslim did feel a sense of danger,
04:57but again, like, things didn't happen to him.
04:59The New Yorker claimed that both stories were exaggerated,
05:02which Minhaj more or less acknowledged.
05:05However, in a YouTube video, he called the article, quote,
05:08needlessly misleading, insisting that his embellishments weren't deception,
05:12but only a storytelling technique.
05:14But this New Yorker article definitely makes me look like one.
05:17It was so needlessly misleading.
05:19Not just about my stand-up, but also me as a person.
05:25The truth is, racism, FBI surveillance, and threats to my family happened.
05:31Number 25, Ilaria Baldwin.
05:34How's married life?
05:35Married life is really nice.
05:37Born Hilary Lynn Hayward Thomas in Boston, Massachusetts,
05:40this yoga instructor and entrepreneur eventually reinvented herself as Ilaria.
05:45In 2020, after noticing that Ilaria Baldwin had been misrepresenting herself as Spanish,
05:50one Twitter user compiled a thread exposing her.
05:53This included a clip from the Today Show where Baldwin appeared to forget the English word for cucumber,
05:57and various interviews of her speaking in a Spanish accent.
06:00We have, um, how do you say anything?
06:03Cucumber?
06:04Cucumbers.
06:04This thread unleashed a wave of more inconsistencies,
06:07like her agency's website falsely listing her birthplace as Mallorca,
06:11and her willingness to let people believe she was half Spanish.
06:14Baldwin eventually apologized for the falsehoods,
06:17explaining that though she was raised with both American and Spanish cultures,
06:21she should have been clearer about her actual roots.
06:23There's been some questions about where I'm born.
06:28I'm born in Boston, and then I spent some of my childhood in Boston, some of my childhood in Spain.
06:34But her biography on her agency's website states,
06:37Baldwin was born in Mallorca, Spain.
06:39Number 24, Hulk Hogan.
06:41Hulk Hogan may be a wrestling legend,
06:43but he's also a master at rewriting history to make himself look cooler.
06:47Perhaps his most outrageous tale involved the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley.
06:51According to Hogan's WWE-produced autobiography,
06:55Presley was a diehard fan of his who would swing by to watch him wrestle live in Memphis.
06:59But when I started wrestling in Memphis,
07:02he used to ride a Harley and put a helmet on at night.
07:06He'd go out at night and ride his Harley around,
07:07and then he'd come to the Mid-South Coliseum and sit way up in the top of the building and
07:11watch wrestling.
07:12Sounds impressive,
07:13until you realize that Presley passed away in 1977,
07:17two full years before Hogan even set foot in a Memphis ring.
07:21That was far from his only lie.
07:24Hogan also claimed that both the Rolling Stones and Metallica wanted him as their bassist,
07:28and that he was Darren Aronofsky's first pick for the lead role in The Wrestler.
07:32Both claims have since been debunked.
07:34Well, I quit playing music when I started wrestling in, uh, 77.
07:39You know?
07:40Uh-huh.
07:40And, uh, this was, I don't know, this was...
07:43See, it's Hulk Hogan and he still wants to be a rock star.
07:45No, but man...
07:46Everyone wants to be a goddamn rock star.
07:47Yeah, brother, can you imagine being in a Metallica and a Rolling Stones?
07:50Exactly.
07:50Are you kidding me?
07:51Number 23.
07:53Tonya Harding
07:53In arguably the most notorious scandal in figure skating,
07:57Olympian Nancy Kerrigan was ambushed in January 1994,
08:01leaving her with a bruised leg and her career in jeopardy.
08:04The attack was meant to sideline her from competing,
08:07and was eventually traced to Jeff Galluli,
08:09the then-husband of Kerrigan's rival, Tonya Harding.
08:12Naturally, suspicion fell on Harding.
08:15Although she denied prior knowledge of the attack,
08:17Harding later pleaded guilty to covering it up,
08:20and earned a lifetime ban from the U.S. Figure Skating Association.
08:23Tonya Harding always denied any involvement in the attack,
08:26but she was fined $100,000 and banned for life from competitive skating.
08:32For decades, she stuck to the story,
08:34until 2018, when she finally admitted in an ABC special
08:37that she knew about the plot beforehand.
08:40But of course, she maintained that she had nothing to do with actually carrying it out.
08:44No, we talked, we were at an event four years after I was attacked,
08:50but we didn't really speak to each other,
08:51so it was very awkward and strange.
08:53So you don't feel like you ever got an apology?
08:57Not a direct.
08:58It doesn't matter at this point.
09:01Number 22.
09:02Prince Andrew.
09:03Prince Andrew shared a close friendship with disgraced financier
09:06and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein for years.
09:08During this period, he was accused of engaging in unlawful activities
09:12with Virginia Giuffre, allegedly with Epstein's help.
09:15Following Epstein's death in 2019,
09:18Andrew sat for a disastrous interview with BBC's Newsnight,
09:21where he denied having sex with Giuffre
09:23and claimed to have only met Epstein once
09:26after his 2008 conviction to sever ties.
09:29That, however, turned out to be a lie.
09:31Court documents have revealed that may not be the case.
09:34One email sent to Jeffrey Epstein from a member of the British royal family
09:39in February 2011 said,
09:42keep in close touch and we'll play some more soon.
09:46Court papers from a separate civil case revealed emails
09:49showing that Andrew arranged a meeting with Epstein in February 2011,
09:53despite his claims that their last encounter was in December 2010.
09:56Although he denied Giuffre's allegations,
09:59he later settled with her for a reported 5 million pounds.
10:03The problem was the fact that once he had been convicted,
10:08I stayed with him.
10:10And that's the bit that, as it were, I kick myself for on a daily basis.
10:18Number 21. James Fry.
10:20In this corner, there's Oprah.
10:21In this corner, we've got James Fry to defend himself.
10:24I don't know why he's there, but he's there trying to defend himself.
10:27Back when The Oprah Winfrey Show ruled daytime TV,
10:31every author dreamed of making it onto Oprah's book club.
10:33In September 2005, James Fry hit the jackpot
10:37when his memoir A Million Little Pieces got the coveted nod,
10:40turning it into a cultural phenomenon.
10:42The book detailed Fry's experience with substance use disorder
10:45and journey to sobriety.
10:47However, a few months later,
10:49an investigative website accused Fry of fabricating multiple details in the book.
10:53Winfrey initially stood by Fry,
10:55but as the evidence mounted,
10:57she brought him onto her show and grilled him about the memoir's authenticity.
11:00I was defending my turf and defending every single viewer who had bought that book.
11:09I am standing here on behalf of the reader who's pissed off.
11:13Fry ultimately admitted to embellishing parts of the story,
11:16leaving Winfrey and her audience disappointed.
11:18As a result, subsequent editions of the book included a disclaimer.
11:22If this came as clear as, you know, as if it were being spoken to me,
11:27is that what people saw was my lack of compassion.
11:32Number 20. Tiger Woods
11:34Needless to say, a successful marriage hinges on openness and honesty among all parties involved.
11:40Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren were once the picture-perfect couple,
11:44the golf great, and his model wife.
11:47Hence, it's understandable why professional golfer Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren's marriage fell apart
11:53when it was revealed that he engaged in extramarital affairs and lied about them.
11:57This shocking revelation came in 2009 after Woods crashed his car just outside his Florida home,
12:03triggering media scrutiny into his personal life.
12:06Subsequently, several women came forward alleging that they had had affairs with the golfer.
12:10Woods eventually owned up to the claims,
12:12admitting that he had lied to a lot of people, including himself.
12:16I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior I engaged in.
12:23The fallout from the scandal not only cost him his marriage,
12:26it also had significant consequences for his career.
12:30Number 19. Star Jones
12:32The long-running daytime talk show The View was designed as a platform for women
12:36to engage in candid discussions about various topical issues.
12:40But it turns out one of its original panelists, Star Jones,
12:43wasn't so candid about her personal life.
12:46I was struggling with my weight since I was 18 years old.
12:50Fitness wasn't important to me. Nutrition wasn't important to me.
12:55Food was my vice and my comfort.
12:57In 2003, Jones, who was once diagnosed as morbidly obese,
13:02began to lose weight in a rather dramatic fashion.
13:05According to her,
13:06This was the result of a strict dieting and exercise regimen.
13:09She also vaguely alluded to receiving a, quote,
13:13medical intervention.
13:14However, rumors persisted that seemed to suggest otherwise.
13:18Finally, in 2007,
13:20Jones confirmed the speculations,
13:22disclosing that she had indeed undergone gastric bypass surgery
13:25to help with her weight loss.
13:27In 2003, I took control and underwent gastric bypass surgery.
13:31I went from 307 pounds to, at the lowest, 142 pounds.
13:37Number 18.
13:38Rick Ross
13:39In 2008, a photograph emerged in the media
13:42showing Rick Ross dressed as a correctional officer.
13:45The rapper took offense to its publication,
13:48insisting that his face had been digitally manipulated
13:50onto someone else's body by, quote,
13:52online hackers.
13:53It's a lot of people that don't understand it.
13:55I don't blame them.
13:56In fact, he took things a step further
13:58by challenging anyone to provide solid proof
14:01that he ever worked in the prison system.
14:03Well, investigative website The Smoking Gun
14:06decided to take him up on the challenge.
14:08They unearthed his personal record
14:10with the Department of Corrections,
14:11complete with his social security number
14:13and copies of his birth certificate.
14:16Faced with the overwhelming evidence,
14:18Ross confessed to his past job
14:19as a corrections officer in Florida
14:21between 1995 and 1997.
14:24What made you want to do that?
14:26One of my big homies.
14:27One of my big homies had just got in trouble
14:29and a lot of people, a lot of things were going on
14:32and he just suggested it.
14:34Number 17.
14:35Rebel Wilson
14:36The film industry is often seen
14:38as a realm of smoke and mirrors,
14:39a reputation that was certainly not helped
14:41by Australian actress Rebel Wilson.
14:44Back in 2015, an Australian magazine alleged
14:47that Wilson had fabricated several aspects
14:49of her personal history.
14:50People were calling me a liar and a fake
14:53and for someone like me who prides herself
14:56on being very candid and authentic,
14:58it was just probably the most devastating thing
15:02they could have said to me.
15:03The actress had claimed to be 29 years old that year
15:06and asserted that Rebel was her birth name.
15:08However, a former classmate countered this,
15:11stating that she was actually 36 at the time
15:14and official records revealed her birth name
15:16as Melanie Elizabeth Bounds.
15:18I pity her and I feel really sad for her
15:21that she would do that
15:22because now she would have that on her conscience
15:25and I feel like that's kind of probably calmer enough for her.
15:31In addition, Wilson's claim of a rough upbringing
15:34in the quote-unquote ghetto of Sydney was debunked,
15:37as evidence pointed to a quote,
15:39very normal upper middle class background.
15:42Number 16.
15:43Bow Wow
15:44Sometimes celebrities tell lies that seem understandable.
15:47Other times, such as in the case of Bow Wow,
15:50their fabrications are so ridiculous and unnecessary
15:53they leave you wondering, why?
15:55In 2017, Bow Wow shared a picture of a private jet
15:58on his Instagram,
16:00claiming he was flying to New York with the aircraft.
16:02Yet shortly after,
16:04a fan spotted him seated in economy class
16:06on a New York-bound commercial flight.
16:08Oh, you just posted a picture you liked?
16:09Yeah.
16:10Well, what the hell?
16:11What the hell's the problem?
16:12Because the way it looked,
16:13it looked as if I was taking the big boy jet
16:16going to New York and really I was on Delta.
16:18A quick reverse image search revealed
16:20that the original picture Bow Wow posted
16:21was actually a stock photo from the website
16:24of a private transport service.
16:25This led to social media users ridiculing the rapper,
16:29sparking the hashtag Bow Wow challenge,
16:31in which they shared side-by-side pictures
16:33depicting a glamorous falsehood,
16:35alongside their mundane reality.
16:37If I fly a commercial, no lie, this is real shit.
16:39But you know a private jet means it's just for you,
16:41not for other people who can buy tickets to?
16:43No.
16:43Well, they got this thing called JetSmarty.
16:45Are you up on that?
16:45Yeah, JetSmarty.
16:46Number 15, Ryan Lochte.
16:48All eyes were on decorated swimmer Ryan Lochte
16:50at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
16:54However, Lochte misused that attention
16:56and effectively derailed his career
16:58after falsely claiming to have been robbed at gunpoint
17:01by individuals impersonating police officers.
17:04These guys came out with a badge.
17:07A police badge.
17:08No lights, no nothing.
17:09Just a police badge.
17:11They pulled us over.
17:13They pulled out their guns.
17:15They told the other swimmers to get down on the ground.
17:18The incident generated international attention.
17:21But as more details emerged,
17:22it became apparent that Lochte and three other swimmers
17:25allegedly vandalized a gas station bathroom
17:27and were made to pay for the damages.
17:30Lochte eventually apologized for over-exaggerating his story
17:33and was charged in Brazil with falsely reporting a crime.
17:37I did lie about that one part and I take full responsibility.
17:41I'm human.
17:42I made a mistake, a very big mistake.
17:44And it's something that I learned from
17:47and I know that that will never happen again.
17:50Although the charges were later dropped,
17:52the repercussions to his career were severe.
17:55He lost multiple endorsements
17:56and received a 10-month suspension from competitive swimming.
18:00Number 14.
18:01Brandy.
18:02In 2002,
18:03then 23-year-old singer Brandy appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show,
18:07where she announced that she was expecting her first child
18:10with music producer Robert Smith.
18:11We recently learned that she got married
18:13and is...
18:17She's married now.
18:18Yeah.
18:19And is expecting a baby girl this summer.
18:23But that wasn't her only big announcement.
18:25She also revealed that she and Smith had gotten married
18:28in a secret ceremony months earlier.
18:30However, it turns out only one of those statements was true.
18:33After their relationship ended,
18:35Smith admitted that they had actually never gotten married.
18:38This claim was later confirmed by Brandy
18:40to none other than Oprah herself.
18:42I felt the pressure of, again, having to be perfect.
18:49And I was scared.
18:51According to the singer,
18:53they had fabricated the marriage story
18:54to protect her innocent image,
18:56as she desired to maintain the perception
18:58of not having a child out of wedlock.
19:01Number 13.
19:02The White Stripes.
19:03When Jack and Meg White first started gaining traction
19:05in the Detroit music scene
19:07as the indie rock duo The White Stripes,
19:09they made everyone believe they were siblings.
19:11Hello, my sister and I would like to thank
19:13much music and everyone who voted for us
19:15for best international video.
19:17This image persisted,
19:19even as the two rose to international fame.
19:22However, in 2002,
19:24a local Detroit paper did some digging
19:26and uncovered the truth.
19:27Jack and Meg were once married.
19:29They tied the knot in 1996,
19:31shortly before forming the band,
19:33and divorced in 2000,
19:35just as they began gaining widespread attention.
19:37Despite this revelation,
19:39they maintained that they were siblings.
19:41It wasn't until 2005
19:43that Jack publicly acknowledged the deception,
19:45stating that they had propagated the lie
19:47so as to be taken more seriously as musicians.
19:50And that ain't what you want to hear,
19:53but that's what I'll do.
19:55Number 12.
19:56Bill O'Reilly.
19:57Conservative journalist Bill O'Reilly
19:59has faced scrutiny over some of his exaggerated claims.
20:02In 2013,
20:03O'Reilly asserted in a book
20:05that he was present outside the home
20:07where George de Morenschildt fatally shot himself
20:09and had heard the shotgun blast.
20:11That's what O'Reilly wrote in the book,
20:13plain and simple, right there.
20:14O'Reilly says he was outside the guy's house in Florida
20:16when he heard the fatal gunshot.
20:18And he said basically the same thing on Fox News
20:20while promoting his book.
20:22De Morenschildt had gained notoriety
20:23for his association with Lee Harvey Oswald
20:26before the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
20:28However, this was later debunked as false.
20:32Then, in 2015,
20:33Mother Jones Magazine published an article
20:35which disputed O'Reilly's claims
20:37that he was on the Falkland Islands
20:38during the 1982 war.
20:40I was in a situation one time in a war zone
20:43in Argentina in the Falklands
20:45where my photographer got run down.
20:48The controversy that ensued
20:50led O'Reilly to retract previous assertions
20:52that he had witnessed extreme violence
20:54during conflicts in El Salvador and Northern Ireland.
20:57Number 11,
20:58Steven Seagal.
20:59In addition to his roles in action films,
21:01Steven Seagal has also dabbled in reality TV,
21:04most notably the A&E series
21:06Steven Seagal Lawman.
21:07That's him in the white t-shirt, Joaquin.
21:10That's him.
21:11The show trailed him
21:12as a reserve deputy sheriff
21:13in Arizona and Louisiana.
21:15During his work on the series,
21:17Seagal claimed to be
21:18a licensed law enforcement officer in California.
21:20But when the LA Times did a little research,
21:23they found no evidence of such certification
21:25in either California or Louisiana.
21:27In fact,
21:28his role as a sheriff's deputy in Louisiana
21:30was purely ceremonial,
21:32handed to him by longtime sheriff Harry Lee.
21:34Seagal has also claimed
21:36that he once helped train CIA agents.
21:38But shockingly,
21:39there's no proof of that either.
21:41What do you think about this case?
21:43Well, I mean,
21:44unfortunately,
21:44I don't have all the details.
21:46I've been a police officer.
21:47Number 10,
21:48Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
21:51Though Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
21:52would initially deny allegations of an affair,
21:55many did think it was a very big coincidence
21:57that the scandal broke out the same year
21:59that Pitt and then-wife Jennifer Aniston
22:01ultimately divorced.
22:02At least I read this
22:03in the Vanity Fair article
22:04where you were saying that
22:05maybe it's not,
22:07maybe two people,
22:08the nature of two people
22:09is not meant to be
22:10with each other forever.
22:12Well, I don't know.
22:13I'm not sure what I was talking about.
22:15Okay.
22:16Yes,
22:17but there's just so much pressure on that
22:18from day one.
22:20During the proceedings,
22:21Jolie would claim
22:22no infidelity took place
22:24and cited her father's cheating on her mother
22:26as ample deterrent.
22:27And yet,
22:28just a few months
22:29after the divorce was finalized,
22:30Jolie announced her pregnancy
22:32with Pitt's child.
22:34So,
22:34did they or didn't they?
22:35Well,
22:36in 2008,
22:37both Jolie and Pitt
22:38would refer to Mr. and Mrs. Smith
22:40as the movie
22:40where they,
22:41quote,
22:42fell in love
22:42in two separate articles.
22:44So,
22:45we guess
22:45that answers that.
22:47Yeah, honey,
22:47I should probably tell you.
22:50I was married once before.
22:51Number 9.
22:52Lil' Kim
22:53Some lies can get you jail time.
22:55That's what Lil' Kim found out
22:56during a court proceeding in 2005.
22:58She told a federal grand jury
23:00that her co-manager,
23:01Damian Butler,
23:02and bodyguard Swift Jackson
23:04were not involved
23:05in a 2001 shootout
23:06in front of radio station
23:08Hot 97 in New York.
23:09The two camps,
23:10I guess,
23:11saw each other here
23:11and there was a war of words
23:13that were on records already
23:14between Foxy and Lil' Kim.
23:16It got out of hand,
23:17words were exchanged
23:18and shots were fired.
23:19She also claimed
23:20to have not been on the scene
23:22or to know one of the suspects.
23:24But Lil' Kim ran into big problems
23:25when security footage was released,
23:27showing that not only
23:28was Kim there,
23:29but so were Butler and Jackson.
23:31This mis-recollection
23:33earned the rapper
23:34366 days in prison,
23:3630 days house arrest,
23:37and three years probation.
23:39I'm turning myself in
23:40to the U.S. Marshals.
23:42It still feels surreal,
23:44but I gotta do
23:45what I gotta do.
23:47I thank all my fans
23:48and friends
23:49for all of their support.
23:51Number 8.
23:52Paris Hilton
23:52After serving jail time,
23:54Paris Hilton
23:55appeared on Larry King Live
23:56to talk about the experience.
23:57During the interview,
23:58King asked the heiress
23:59if she'd ever taken drugs
24:01and twice she denied it,
24:03claiming all she's taken
24:04were meds for ADHD.
24:06I've been on medication
24:07since I was a child.
24:08I have ADD,
24:09so I take medication for that.
24:12If that's the only thing
24:13you do with
24:14attention deficit disorder?
24:15Yes.
24:16Photos began to pop up
24:17showing Hilton
24:18smoking the green stuff, though,
24:19and perpetrators
24:20of a 2008 robbery
24:21claimed to have found
24:22other narcotics
24:23in her Hollywood mansion.
24:24However,
24:25what cast the most out
24:26on Paris' drug-free claims
24:27was when she was arrested
24:28on suspicion
24:29of drug possession
24:30in 2010,
24:31a suspicion cast
24:32due to 0.8 grams
24:34of the stuff
24:34being found in a handbag
24:35that also contained
24:36her credit cards,
24:37phone,
24:38and driver's license.
24:39Today,
24:40she admitted she lied.
24:41I was in possession
24:43as well as
24:44telling the officer
24:45that the bag wasn't mine.
24:47Number 7.
24:47Beyonce
24:48In a 2008 interview
24:50with Marie Claire UK,
24:51Beyonce appeared to imply
24:52that some of the lyrics
24:53to her 2006 single
24:55Irreplaceable
24:55weren't actually aimed
24:56at Jay-Z.
25:06Prompted by an onstage claim
25:08that B wrote the song
25:09for her ladies,
25:11Neo came forward
25:11saying he had written
25:12the lyrics himself
25:13for himself.
25:15Neo went so far
25:16as to express regret
25:17for giving the song up.
25:18Although he acknowledged
25:19it was better suited
25:20to a female artist,
25:21the singer also confirmed
25:23that Beyonce rewrote
25:24the song's harmony
25:25and melody lines
25:25and thus did in fact
25:27earn her songwriting credit,
25:29just not for the lyrics.
25:30For her to take the song
25:31and make it hers,
25:31I didn't mind her saying,
25:33I wrote this for my girls
25:34at a concert
25:35or whatever the case may be
25:36because in a way,
25:37technically,
25:38in a way,
25:39she did.
25:39You know,
25:39she put her spin on it.
25:40If you're gonna do it
25:41the exact same way I did it,
25:42you might as well
25:42let me keep it.
25:43Number six,
25:44Stephen Ranazzisi.
25:45Given the profound tragedy
25:47of the September 11th attacks,
25:48it's certainly not a good idea
25:50to falsely claim
25:51to be a survivor.
25:52If only someone had told that
25:54to Stephen Ranazzisi beforehand.
25:55Did you out yourself
25:57or did somebody bust you?
25:59The Times.
25:59The New York Times, yeah.
26:00The New York Times figured this out.
26:02Did you figure out
26:02how they figured out
26:03that you were lying
26:04about your experience
26:05during 9-11?
26:06Did you ever figure out
26:07how they busted you?
26:07No, I don't.
26:08The comedian and actor
26:09had previously described
26:10working as an account manager
26:12at Merrill Lynch
26:12in the South Tower
26:13on that fateful day.
26:14He claimed to have
26:16narrowly escaped the building
26:17shortly before
26:18the second plane hit,
26:19citing the experience
26:20as his motivation
26:21to move to Los Angeles
26:22to pursue an entertainment career.
26:24However,
26:25a New York Times investigation
26:26proved that it was all
26:27a bold-faced lie.
26:29Not only did Ranazzisi
26:30never work for Merrill Lynch,
26:32the company didn't even have
26:34offices in either tower
26:35at the time.
26:36I truly,
26:37in all of my heart,
26:39wished that I had
26:40that voice
26:40that I feel like I have now
26:42that said,
26:42hey man,
26:43take a breath,
26:44relax.
26:45People are going to like you.
26:46People are going to understand
26:47who you are
26:48when they get to know you.
26:49You don't need to lie about that.
26:50Take that back.
26:51Number five,
26:52Milli Vanilli.
26:53They certainly can't blame
26:54this one on the rain.
26:55Milli Vanilli was hot
27:02in the late 80s,
27:03but soon after,
27:04their lip-syncing facade
27:05began to crack.
27:06Charles Shaw,
27:07one of the actual singers,
27:09came forward in 1989
27:10and revealed he was one
27:12of three vocalists
27:13who recorded the tracks.
27:14As the vocals were attributed
27:16to Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus,
27:18things got messy fast.
27:20Morvan and Pilatus
27:21had to ultimately
27:22relinquish their Grammy,
27:23and lawsuits were sprung on them
27:25and Arista Records,
27:27citing consumer fraud protection laws.
27:29While Morvan recovered
27:30from the humiliation,
27:32Pilatus did not,
27:33as he grappled
27:34with substance use disorder
27:35until his death in 1998.
27:37But with us,
27:38it went from one day
27:40to the next.
27:41We lost the fame.
27:42We were pushed aside,
27:44suddenly.
27:45And you had to live with that.
27:47Number four,
27:47Kim Kardashian.
27:49In 2007,
27:50when Kim Kardashian
27:51was only semi-famous,
27:52rumors emerged
27:53about a sex tape
27:54made by her
27:55and her ex,
27:56Ray J.
27:56Whatever we did
27:57in our private time
27:59was our private time
28:00and never once
28:01did we think
28:01that it would get out.
28:02In an interview
28:03with Complex Magazine,
28:04she publicly denied
28:05that any sex tape
28:07was made.
28:08Even worse,
28:09she denied it
28:09to her then-boyfriend,
28:11Nick Cannon.
28:11When the tape
28:12finally did get leaked,
28:13Nick called it quits,
28:15saying it was mostly
28:16the deception
28:16that pushed him away.
28:18Despite claiming
28:18she wouldn't release
28:19a sex tape
28:20for any amount of money,
28:21Kim is reported
28:22to have settled
28:22for a $5 million payout
28:24from Vivid Entertainment
28:25and has long-battled
28:27armchair speculation
28:28that she herself
28:29was directly involved
28:31in the leak.
28:31You know there are people
28:32who say that you put it out yourself.
28:34You know that.
28:34Yeah.
28:35And, you know,
28:36I think why would anyone
28:37put that humiliation
28:39on their family
28:40like that?
28:42Number 3.
28:43Jussie Smollett
28:44One of the most confounding
28:45celebrity lies
28:46ever told
28:47remains that
28:48involving actor
28:49Jussie Smollett.
28:50In January 2019,
28:51Smollett made headlines
28:53after claiming
28:53to have been the victim
28:54of a hate crime in Chicago.
28:56I was just jumped
28:56and then I looked down
28:58and I see that
28:59there's a rope around my neck,
29:00which I hadn't obviously
29:02noticed it before.
29:03No, because it was so fast.
29:04You know what I'm saying?
29:05It was so fast.
29:05How long did this all take?
29:07It felt like minutes,
29:08but it probably was like 30 seconds.
29:10Smollett alleged
29:11that he was attacked
29:12by two individuals
29:13who hurled homophobic
29:14and racial slurs,
29:16doused him
29:16with an unknown chemical substance,
29:18and placed a noose
29:19around his neck.
29:20The news sent shockwaves
29:21throughout the country,
29:22with many high-profile figures
29:24expressing their support.
29:25But as the Chicago PD
29:26investigated the incident,
29:28several inconsistencies
29:29in Smollett's story emerged.
29:31That was because
29:32it was all staged.
29:33Smollett was subsequently
29:35convicted of felony
29:36disorderly conduct
29:37for lying to the police,
29:38effectively derailing
29:40his career.
29:40This was planned.
29:42This was premeditated.
29:43Premeditated the extreme.
29:45They idolized you
29:46and they would have
29:46done anything for you
29:47and you chose them
29:48because you knew
29:49that you could trust them,
29:51that they were loyal to you.
29:52Number 2.
29:52Brian Williams
29:53In 2003,
29:55while on assignment in Iraq,
29:57Brian Williams was traveling
29:58on a military Chinook helicopter
29:59when the chopper ahead
30:01was hit by RPG fire.
30:03On the ground,
30:03we learned the Chinook
30:04ahead of us
30:05was almost blown out of the sky.
30:08That hole was made
30:09by a rocket-propelled grenade
30:11or RPG.
30:12Williams reported a story
30:14to this effect at the time,
30:15but as the years passed,
30:17the story morphed
30:18until he was no longer
30:19a mere witness,
30:20but a victim of the attack.
30:22Williams chalked up
30:23the mistelling
30:24as a bungled attempt
30:25to thank a vet
30:26involved in the incident,
30:27an explanation
30:28that seemingly overlooked
30:29his past reimaginings
30:31of the event.
30:31I want to apologize.
30:32I said I was traveling
30:34in an aircraft
30:35that was hit by RPG fire.
30:37I was instead
30:38in a following aircraft.
30:40The fallout
30:41was a six-month suspension
30:42from NBC Nightly News
30:44and a serious blow
30:45to his professional reputation.

31:03Number 1.
31:04Lance Armstrong.
31:06Cancer survivor
31:06and Tour de France champion
31:08Lance Armstrong
31:08always maintained
31:10that his legacy
31:10was drug-free.
31:11For seven straight years,
31:13he dominated arguably
31:14the hardest sporting event
31:16in the world.
31:16History in the making,
31:17seven times a winner
31:18of the Tour de France.
31:19Around him grew an empire
31:21that included
31:21a powerful foundation
31:23dedicated to fighting cancer.
31:24But in 2012,
31:26after years of denying charges
31:27to the contrary,
31:28the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency
31:30determined that was a lie.
31:32By October of that year,
31:34Armstrong had forfeited prizes
31:35and awards dating back to 1998.
31:38He was stripped
31:39of all seven Tour de France titles
31:41and he was banned for life
31:42from Olympic sports.
31:44The IOC would later delete
31:46Armstrong's Olympic results
31:47and take back his bronze medal.
31:49I'd love to,
31:50we'd all love to go back in life
31:51and have a few do-overs.
31:53Yep.
31:54Never should have taken it on,
31:55especially knowing that,
31:58that most of what they said
31:59was true.
32:01Additionally,
32:01he was forced out of the foundation
32:03that once carried his name,
32:04lost multiple sponsorships,
32:06and even saw the episodes
32:07of Arthur he appeared in
32:08be banned.
32:09All due to this one
32:11massive,
32:12long-running lie.
