Well, I allowed this one to slide by far too long. One of my favorite autumn of 1968 rock hits, and probably the shortest psychedelic single of all time.

"Shape of Things to Come" was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and was featured in the film Wild in the Streets (1968). It was performed by the fictional band Max Frost and the Troopers on their album Shape of Things to Come, featuring a lead vocal by Harley Hatcher. The song was a mere 1 minute 55 seconds in length. Max Frost was the lead character, but his "group" was never formally named in the film itself. It is now believed that the band was actually a real one called The 13th Power.

The single peaked at #17 on the Cash Box Top 100 on November 2, 1968 (#22 Billboard) and peaked at #9 on the Canadian RPM Top 100 in October.
