00:00What happens when a student is much too advanced for their class?
00:03We'll see about that with Yon Chilton.
00:05I make videos about movies and TV series, subscribe!
00:08It's back to school time, so we're going to talk about how school is portrayed in TV series and...
00:11movies.
00:12At just 9 years old, Sheldon went straight to high school.
00:15On paper, it seems perfectly logical.
00:17He is extremely intelligent; he understands scientific concepts.
00:20that much older students have not yet mastered
00:23and he gets bored with classes that are geared towards children his age.
00:26And I, as an adult, will never be able to control them.
00:28The problem is that being intellectually advanced doesn't necessarily mean being ahead of everything else.
00:33And socially, he has enormous difficulty understanding others.
00:37Jokes, emotions, certain social rules,
00:40Everything that seems obvious to others can become complicated for him.
00:44Even his teachers don't always know how to manage a student
00:47who may sometimes know more than them on certain subjects.
00:50Yon Chilton shows that skipping grades for a very advanced child
00:54can solve an academic problem without necessarily solving the rest.
00:57Having a good academic record doesn't always mean being in the right place
01:01if you are made to go through several classes.
