00:06And a lot of, not a lot, but sometimes women would have STDs, even if it's something that they can

00:10get rid of or even if it's HIV or herpes.

00:13And some of the questions would be asked like, did you know that you had this disease?

00:18Did you know that you had this STD?

00:20And some of them would say yes.

00:21Okay, well, are you being treated for this STD?

00:24And some of them would say no, because I don't believe that I have it.

00:27Like, some of them came from the health department.

00:31The health department tested you and said that you have this disease or this STD, sorry, and this is the

00:38medication that you need to take.

00:39So you have been non-compliant and negligent for months because that's when it shows up in the system that

00:44you were tested for it.

00:45Okay, that's one issue.

00:47Then we would have the women that would come in, they get tested, and we would ask them again like,

00:51how long have you known about this?

04:22If you don't know what HSV is, HSV is herpes simplex virus.

04:26HSV comes in two different types, one and two.

04:28I have two, which is genital herpes.

04:30One is oral herpes.

04:31Oral herpes is cold sores around the mouth.

04:36And genital herpes is small clusters on your vagina or your penis.

04:45HSV is very common and also very stigmatized.

07:25HSV is an incurable STD, so there's no cure for it.

07:28You take medication for it.

07:29I contracted HSV back in June of last year, and I was diagnosed with it in August.

07:35It does take a while for it to actually pop up on a blood test.

07:38I received it from somebody who was not honest about their test results, and here I am.

07:43People with any STD are not dirty.

07:46It's a lot of stigma around that.

07:48People with HSV can live a normal life.

07:51I am living proof of that.

07:53People with HSV can maintain sexual relationships, romantic relationships, platonic relationships.

07:58We are literally still human beings.

08:01People fail to realize that sometimes because of the stigma and the lack of education that surrounds HSV and STDs

08:07in general.

08:07People with HSV can get married.

08:09People with HSV can still have children.

08:12I know this may sound silly of, like, of course you can still get married, but a lot of people

08:15don't realize that.

08:16When I first got diagnosed, I thought...

08:22You have an STD, not like you're dead.

08:25Like, of course you can get married.

08:27Of course you can live your life, but don't be out here pussy popping.

09:04life or it's death penalty.

09:59And, um, as he, like, I forgot exactly, it's been so long since I haven't seen that video clip.

10:06But basically, this other guy was, like, walking down the street.

10:09He kind of saw what was happening, that the dude was, you know, trying to, trying to smash this homeless

10:15chick.

10:16And he yells, like, stop or whatever.

10:19I don't remember exactly how it would happen, but he ended up saying, like, why would you do that to

10:23him?

10:24You know you have AIDS.

10:27And the kid was, like, 18, 19, if I remember the video clip correctly.

10:32Kid was, like, 18, 19 years old.

10:35Probably horny as ever, okay?

10:39We've all been there before, you know, 18, 19, you know what I mean?

10:43And, um, this homeless lady let him, you know, clap her cheeks raw, knowing what she had.

10:54And so, that young man will have to live the rest of his life with that, which is, it's sad,

11:03Um, I thought that I was never going to find love.

11:05I thought I would have to settle for anybody that would accept me.

11:12It's still hard dealing with it, because I am navigating relationships.

11:17So, I am just trying to navigate it and find someone that sees me for me and not just my

11:22condition, which is hard sometimes, but it's definitely possible.

11:25I'm here to gain my power back, because I've let it control me for too long.

11:31There's still going to be downs with it.

11:32This is just my first step in reclaiming my power.
