A Seattle chocolate shop employee allegedly refused to serve two police officers, turning a simple candy purchase into a public backlash that forced the owner to respond. The officers, including a trainee, walked into Chocolati in the Wallingford district around 4:30 p.m. and were reportedly ignored at the counter before being told, “No, I won’t serve you.”

After the incident spread online, the shop was flooded with complaints and the owner addressed the situation on social media. He said the employee was let go after the facts were reviewed, and made clear that discrimination against customers, including police officers, would not be tolerated. The owner also said he plans to meet with Seattle police to help make amends and keep the shop welcoming for everyone.

This police discrimination story highlights the growing tension around law enforcement, customer service, and public accountability. It also shows how quickly a small retail encounter can become a viral news topic when an employee’s ideology clashes with a business owner’s values.

00:00A chocolate shop employee with green hair discriminated against a pair of police officers
00:04because of their profession. However, after the owner heard that the officers were made
00:09to feel unwelcome, there were some big changes made to the candy shop. According to the Post
00:14Millennial, a Seattle police officer and a trainee entered Chocolati in the Wallingford District
00:19at around 4.30 p.m. to purchase some confections. When they walked up to the counter, however,
00:25they didn't receive the friendly welcome they were expecting. In fact, they received no greeting at
00:29all. As hatred and violence toward law enforcement officers become increasingly commonplace,
00:35discrimination is just as prevalent. Bizarrely, when employees turn away men and women in uniform,
00:40they truly consider themselves to be change-makers. Unfortunately for one Chocolatier,
00:45it was her boss who made real change. President of the Seattle Police Officers,
00:51Guildmike Sollin explained that the officers stood at the counter but were purposefully ignored by the
00:55employee, who they described as a white female with green streaks in her hair. Once they finally got
01:01her attention, they asked if they could purchase a box of chocolates, to which the woman allegedly
01:06replied, No, I won't serve you, Fox News reports. The officers left without incident. Once the post
01:13millennial heard about the encounter, the outlet contacted the store for comment. An employee who
01:18answered the call seemed to know of the incident and immediately became hostile. When the outlet asked if
01:23they could be referred to a manager or store owner, the employee told them to go F yourself.
01:29Upon informing the employee of the purpose of the call, the employee said to the post-millennial,
01:33Is this how you want to spend your time? Getting essential workers in trouble. The employee continued,
01:40Shouldn't you be spending your time harassing homeless people? As soon as word got out of the
01:44incident, the shop was inundated with complaints of the alleged discrimination, forcing store owner
01:49Christian, one to respond on social media. Incredibly, he made an announcement that left
01:55many pleasantly surprised. One explained that while he respects the employee's right to free speech,
02:00he also has the right to choose who works at his shop. After fully understanding the facts of this
02:06incident, we came to the mutual conclusion that it was in the best interest of both parties to part ways
02:11with the team member involved in this incident, one wrote. We also continued to communicate with our
02:17employees about our values and how we serve our customers to ensure an incident like this does
02:22not happen again. We will do better. One gathered that he will not allow his employees to discriminate
02:28against customers, including police officers. The owner admitted that the worker had refused to serve
02:34the officers due to her ideology, but he acknowledged that her opinion was no excuse to treat them with
02:40hostility. Discrimination is not a practice that we believe will heal the divide within our city,
02:45and we are committed to being a safe and welcoming place for every one of our neighbors, he wrote.
02:51One says that he will be meeting with Seattle police officers in order to make amends.
02:56Sollin has also extended the invite to the employee to have a discussion and ease tension.
03:00They were met with a bit of hostility, Sollin said. But based upon the amount of pushback that
03:06company has received from the public and across the nation is that people are still really supportive
03:10of the police. The anti-police movement has caused some officers to change professions.
03:16With violence, riots, and vitriol aimed directly at them, officers can hardly go anywhere without
03:21encountering someone who hates or fears them solely because of their occupation. The hatred that once
03:27remained on the streets is now spilling over into their daily routines off the clock, convincing
03:32many that risking their lives to keep law and order simply isn't worth it.
