00:16What a way to start a season.
00:18The Bills go to Houston in what was sure to be a rock fight and win 36-31.
00:25What a way to start the season.
00:26Did something happen?
00:27Did I miss something?
00:28Did the Bills maybe for once win the game of the year?
00:31Can it be the game of the year when it's week one?
00:33Last year, they might have won the game of the year last year in week one, actually.
00:38I don't feel like I'm necessarily in shape for a game like that right off the hop.
00:42I might have needed a preseason post-game show or two.
00:46Yeah, we've got to ease in here.
00:49Go figure.
00:50The Bills get a stop defensively at the end.
00:53I mean, the defense did not have a good day really at all,
00:57but when they needed it, they got some plays.
01:00Deion Walker and Rousseau made a few big plays in this game.
01:05But it's really refreshing to see.
01:07A few at the beginning and then one at the end.
01:09Yeah, right.
01:10To see them.
01:11You know, I'm watching the end of this game with my son and I'm like, you know,
01:16the Bills are going to score too early and we're going to have to sweat them getting a stop.
01:20And, man, they got the stop.
01:23Well, do you think the pass that Lasseter dropped was on purpose so that they could get a stop
01:28and then get the ball back and then score?
01:30Do you think maybe that was the, you know, galaxy brain idea there was...
01:34I don't know.
01:35...just give up the pick?
01:36I mean...
01:37It all worked out.
01:38It's not an all-time drop, that play, but it's close.
01:43I mean, he leaves his feet.
01:44And, you know, you're sprinting downfield in coverage.
01:47Was that Palmer, too, on that play or was that Moore?
01:49Yeah, that was Palmer on that play.
01:51All right, back to back.
01:51I don't think Palmer...
01:52Ross Tucker said on the telecast he didn't think Palmer even saw the ball in the air.
01:57Because he turned out towards the pylon and that ball was way inside
02:01and it didn't seem like he reacted very well to it at all.
02:05And Moore might have been in the tent during that.
02:08Was he back on the field that last drive?
02:09I don't know.
02:10He was in the tent.
02:10He did get back on the field before...
02:12Yes, he did.
02:13They said he's back out there.
02:15I don't know if he was on the field for that play specifically,
02:17but he was back out during that drive.
02:19Is that why Palmer was on the field at all?
02:23With Moore going into the blue tent in the first place?
02:26I mean, I didn't see him all day, Palmer, but, you know, what a good timing.
02:31Yes!
02:32Mike Schoep and the Bulldog here.
02:33We'll have Joe Brady's...
02:34Apologies for my voice, by the way.
02:36It's coming back.
02:37Post-game media conference, we're calling it.
02:40It's presented by Northtown Kia, Western New York's number one Kia dealer.
02:44Shop at norhtownkia.com.
02:46We'll have that for you as soon as it starts to happen.
02:51The Bills win in Houston.
02:54We talked about the matchup for months.
02:58And if it weren't the hardest game on their schedule.
03:02And, you know, let's hope we were right in suggesting that, because they just won what
03:07might have been the hardest game on their schedule.
03:08I kind of think, to take nothing away from either team in this game, the way the games
03:14in the league have gone today...
03:16Man, I mean, whether it's rust or just like...
03:21You know, even think about some of the 49ers on Thursday night.
03:25Just a lot of easy plays, it seems like, are happening in the league.
03:30And, you know, great.
03:31It's fun this way.
03:32We've got a game in Charlotte where there are like 90 points.
03:36All kinds of that today.
03:37And this game, of course, no exception.
03:39I mean, 36-31.
03:41I mean, I feel like this is what happens every year with these Bills, with the Allen Bills.
03:47I mean, there are times when they look unbeatable.
03:50You know, there are times when you just can't imagine anybody stopping Josh Allen's offense.
03:56I mean, that's back.
03:57We've got the first Joe Brady game as head coach.
03:59Nothing about this.
04:01It might have even gone the other direction.
04:02I guess it did.
04:03There was nothing timid about them out on that wall, really.
04:05They pushed the ball down the field repeatedly.
04:09It got paid off doing it.
04:10Yes, that's right.
04:11And, you know, a few times.
04:13And Houston got whatever it wanted, you know, for most of this game itself.
04:18But, you know, great way to start.
04:23Yeah, I mean, a fun game.
04:26You know, nerve-wracking.
04:28That's all part of it.
04:31And maybe not, you know, I don't think anyone was expecting 67 points in this game.
04:36I certainly wasn't.
04:38You know, a shootout-type game, which is exactly what this ended up being.
04:42But there was always some room in this season with a new head coach and a new defensive style
04:49and a new defensive coach that the defense was going to have, you know, there was going to be growing
04:56pains, problems.
04:58And I think we saw a lot of that.
04:59I mean, there was a lot of open guys, a lot of confusion.
05:03Even on this last drive, Harrison and Alford seemed like they got tangled up, you know, mentally, not physically.
05:10They didn't get tangled up with their bodies.
05:11But they both chose to cover an in-breaker and left a guy wide open at the sideline there.
05:17Hutchinson, I think it was.
05:18And there was way more of that than you'd like.
05:22But, again, I don't think it's entirely unforeseen.
05:24You know, I think one of the consistent things that we said and talked a lot about all through the
05:32spring and summer was, well, you know,
05:34if this defense, if there's a learning curve personnel-wise and just, you know, Leonard getting familiar with what guys
05:42are capable of
05:43and who he wants to do what with in what situations or whatever, maybe it will drag the Bills into
05:48having to unleash a more explosive passing game.
05:52And, I mean, lo and behold, we definitely got that today because this D was problematic.
05:58But, you know, they got enough done on the other side of the ball.
06:01They got a ton done on the other side of the ball to score 36 points on that team in
06:05that building.
06:06Right.
06:06It's really impressive.
06:07The Bills had lost six straight trips to Houston, and the last two years, offensively, it was pretty ugly.
06:15But today, as we look at the stats of the game, brought to you by Level Financial, helping you retire
06:21better at levelfa.com.
06:24Josh Allen goes 20 for 29, 334 yards, two passing touchdowns, and naturally, two rushing touchdowns.
06:32Put this game on the list of, you know, what they call total touchdowns now.
06:36It was a relatively new term, four touchdowns for Allen, two passing, two rushing, six for 23 on the ground.
06:43What was one of them, 21, one of the touchdowns?
06:45Yeah, the first touchdown was a long one.
06:47There was that touchdown run, there was a sneak, and that was it, really.
06:51There were no kind of like third and medium kind of scrambles from him in the game, but, you know,
06:57it worked out.
06:58James Cook, 13 for 57.
06:59Great start for Cook, but that cooled.
07:03Yeah, it looked like they were really maybe going to be able to run the ball.
07:06I don't know, it will might be too strong, but, like, pretty comfortably, and, yeah, the second half, that just
07:11went away.
07:12Ray Davis, one carry.
07:14Frank Gore, Jr., one carry, each for three yards.
07:16Dalton Kincaid, five for 130.
07:20Most of that, I mean, I don't know if he had, when was his first catch?
07:23Late in the half?
07:24Early third quarter?
07:25He had a jump ball against Lasseter.
07:28I don't remember now what drive that was, but Allen just sort of threw it up to him, and he
07:34had to climb the ladder up high and out-jumped Lasseter and made a play on it.
07:38That was his first reception of the game, and it was definitely in the first half, but I don't remember
07:42what quarter.
07:43D.J. Moore kind of bunched his together, too, five for 100, and a fun touchdown catch up the right
07:49sideline, you know, winning the jump ball, and then basically, as Ross put it, the home run trot into the
07:55end zone.
07:56Khalil Shakir, four for 50.
07:58Palmer with the game winner, one for 34.
08:01Cook, three for 12.
08:02Knox, one for seven.
08:04Coleman, one for one.
08:05C.J. Stroud, I mean, the last couple of plays, there was a fumble at the end, and maybe, was
08:12there one early, two from Stroud, but 274 and two through the air as he enters a big season for
08:19him, and that, you know, that was kind of like one of those moments there, the goal to go or
08:23whatever he had there at the end of the game, you know, new contract, and can the Texans take that
08:28step up?
08:29The Bills deny that.
08:30David Montgomery, three touchdowns in this game, 20 for 60 and two on the ground, three for 19, and another
08:37kind of walk-in touchdown through the air, a little pass in the flat.
08:40Woody Marks, nine for 42.
08:41We don't have to do the whole thing.
08:42Nico Collins, seven for 75, and a score for Houston, 11 different players caught passes for the Texans today.
08:51You mentioned Allen's stats in there, and we'll just have that qualify as our eye on the quarterback, how Allen
08:57played today, very explosive, and mistakes.
09:00I mean, he got away with one in the end zone, like you already highlighted there, before their game-winning
09:05touchdown.
09:06Eye on the quarterback is brought to you by Great Lakes Building Systems.
09:08We'll keep an eye on your business so you don't have to.
