00:00Restoration work on Southport Pier is moving towards the next major stage, with new steelwork
00:06due to be installed. The Grade 2 listed structure has been closed since December 2022, after safety
00:14concerns were identified. The council says 27 lighting arches have been removed, along with
00:20a kiosk and the halfway house. A third kiosk is being dismantled. Handrails, tramlines and
00:26mechanical and electrical services have also been removed, while access and crane areas
00:31have been prepared. Sefton Council says steel replacement work on the Landwood section is
00:37expected to begin later this month. The restoration is backed by £20 million of government funding.
