00:02Chinese automakers are unlikely to enter the U.S. market in the near term as tariffs
00:06and new technology restrictions create major barriers, automotive analyst John Murphy told
00:11CNBC.
00:12Vehicles built in China currently face a 100% U.S. tariff, while new Commerce Department
00:17rules will ban vehicles containing Chinese-developed or manufactured technology starting next year.
00:22Murphy predicts 5 to 10 of the 38 auto brands currently sold in the U.S. could disappear
00:27over the next decade.
00:28He identified Polestar, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, and Fiat as most at risk.
00:33Murphy also expects hybrids to account for 34% of U.S. vehicle sales by 2030, while pure
00:38electric vehicle demand grows only slightly.
