Charlie Goldsmith on Bengals RT Amarius Mims, Opportunity vs Houston Texans
Transcript
00:00Here it is right now, an opportunity for the Bengals' offensive line to kind of clinch the new narrative.
00:04Like, it's funny how it rarely sets up where the stars align like that.
00:07Like, if the offensive line does it again this week, and Amarius does it again this week,
00:12now they're all being talked about in a completely different way.
00:14And we've seen some of the growth and some of the improvements, you know,
00:18bubbling over the last, really over the second half of last year, over week one.
00:22It's become something we're all aware of.
00:25With a strong performance in Houston, the strength of the Bengals' offensive line,
00:28and Amarius specifically, becomes something that opposing teams have to game plan for.
00:33Something that the entire league and the entire kind of NFL knows.
00:37Because of what you're going up against, you get the chance to clinch that, you know.
00:40Very much a game-ball game opportunity for the offensive line and Amarius specifically.
00:45The way I look at offensive lines, too, it's, I don't even look at it as left guard, left tackle,
00:49right tackle.
00:50I look at it almost like a starting rotation.
00:51Who's your number one, your number two, your number three, etc.
00:54And if Amarius kind of plays like an ace on Sunday, I mean, the hype train's off to the races.
00:59How good can he be this year?
01:02And does that affect the offensive line as a whole if you don't have to worry about him on the
01:06right side?
01:07Maybe giving more help to Orlando Brown on the left.
01:09And that's it.
01:10Like, when you look at how reliable Samajan and Drew are in their pass protection roles,
01:14it's just who do you need to help?
01:15Because if you send that extra help, even a slide across the line of scrimmage,
01:19like, you can solve any other weak links, and I don't think there is a true weak link on this
01:25offensive line.
01:26But if you just get to have Amarius one-on-one against anybody,
01:30like, that's almost the, you know, excitement of getting Jamar one-on-one against anybody,
01:35except kind of in reverse, because it's from a protection standpoint.
01:39There's so much you can do with that.
01:40There's so much, maybe even you don't need to have Samajan chipping at the line of scrimmage.
01:46Maybe you can have Chase Brown on the field instead,
01:48and actually now Chase Brown's motioning out wide,
01:50and now you have five receivers out wide, and you're in empty.
01:53Because you have Amarius.
01:54Like, you could go on all day of, on the way, I mean,
01:57Panay Sewell has done it from the right side until this year,
02:00done this exact thing, changed the scheme with his ability to be a weapon as a right tackle.
