00:18The 34th edition individual awards speaks volume of our competitive, the just completed
00:23edition of the African Cup of Nations was as the prizes were evenly distributed among
00:29various countries, simply because no one country dominated the individual awards.
00:34City Sports presents the highlights of the individual awards as rolled out by CAF on Sunday.
00:40South Africa emerged bronze medal leagues.
00:43Rowan William's expert secured a top place for the Bafana Bufana.
00:47They won the penalty shootout over the Al-Kongo to clinch first ever African bronze medal.
00:52South Africa had won the African title in 1996 when they hosted and that was the year when
00:57Nigeria could not have defended the title they won two years earlier in Tolisia 1994.
01:03In 1998 South Africa emerged runners-up but afterwards South Africa had not been able
01:09to make it to the semi-final until the 2023 African Cup of Nations which eventually won bronze medals.
01:16Nigeria's emerged runners-up.
01:18The Nigerian Super Eagles finished as runners-up after taking the lead in the first half but
01:24struggled to maintain possession of the ball and were constantly tested by the Infant
01:28Onslaught.
01:29They let go of one gold lead and silver was the prize for their effort.
01:33At the 34th edition of African Cup of Nations, the Super Eagles returned home to Nigeria.
01:40They were well received and were rewarded by the Bola Tinobu-led administration.
01:44Prices of lands and home for them were the rewards given to them by President Bola Ahmed Tinobu in Abuja.
01:52To the winner, Oaks Ivory Koks won the trophy despite some early challenges in the campaign.
01:58They staged a stunning comeback to defeat Nigeria 2-1 in the competition's final.
02:03Franky Sieg and Holla scored goals for the winning team.
02:07The gold on Homsol and the third African title leveled with Nigeria on three African titles.
02:13Only Ghana, Cameroon and Egypt have won more trophies with Ghana winning 4, Cameroon 5 and Egypt on 7 trophies.
02:22And back to the individual awards and rollout by calf to the deserving players.
02:26Super Eagles captain William Trosteckon was crowned the best player of the 2020 African Cup of Nations.
02:33Simply put, he was the man of the tournament.
02:36Trosteckon scored three goals in the tournament as it led Nigeria to a second-place finish at the 34th edition
02:42of the AFCON.
02:44The next is South African goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams.
02:47He won the award of the goalkeeper of the tournament after his erect in Paris with Bafana Bafana to a
02:53top-place finish.
02:54Roed saved up an artist in a shootout against KVD and another 2 against DR Kongo in the top-place
03:00play-off.
03:01Aside that, he kept five clean sheets in the tournament, an achievement closely followed by Nigeria's goalkeeper Stanley Mwabili.
03:08And to the Golden Boots winner, Equiteria against Emilio Nsue, who right from the group stage,
03:13nicked five goals for the Golden Boots award, whilst Angola's Piers Ndela and Egypt's Mustafa Mohamed,
03:19both on four goals, were awarded silver and bronze boots respectively.
03:24Africa's Simon Adingra won the Best Young Player award, whilst his coach, MS5, won the coach of the tournament after
03:32leading its side to a fairytale African glory.
03:35MS5 took charge of the elephants midway into the tournament and he managed to see them through to claiming their
03:44third ever African title.
03:46The Bafana Bafana of South Africa ever won the Fair Play award. The third-fourth edition of African Cup of
03:51Nations is indeed the Best Afghans.
