00:00I think the Mets do need to hire a general manager. And if I were thinking about what
00:04that general manager should be, it should be somebody who knows and respects the analytics.
00:09I think it needs to be somebody who has feel for New York, because I think that like not
00:14bringing back Pete Alonzo to some degree lacked feel. And somebody who's young and energetic and
00:18cares about the Mets. I think I just described David Cohn. I think they need what I just said.
00:25Bites your tongue, first of all. I guess I can crystallize this with a quote I saw from Jeff
00:32Bezos. And he said, what about anecdotal evidence? What about when some of your lower level workers
00:38come to you with ideas or something that's going wrong in the business? And he said,
00:42how do you handle that? And he said, well, I look at all of it, but he said, anecdotal evidence
00:47needs
00:47more of a seat at the table, because these guys are in the middle of it. They have experience
00:51that's hard to quantify. Obviously, new school, you have to be fluent. You have to be very bright.
00:56All of these executives are. You need to understand exactly the cutting edge technology and what that
01:01means for your pitchers and your hitters. But at the same time, there's a seat at the table there
01:06missing that somebody with anecdotal evidence or experience can really fill a void that has
01:15kind of been shown the door over the recent history, right? A lot of these types of people or
01:19personnel have been shown the door or devalued, so to speak. And I think that's coming back around
01:25a little bit in my mind. We're rethinking this thing a little bit. And that doesn't mean to say
01:31that analytics are ruining the game. I love analytics. I love data. I want more information.
01:36But how do you put it in its place? And how do you balance it with what you see, what
01:42you feel,
01:42what you've experienced? And something you feel that is kind of universal with a lot of experienced guys
01:48needs to have a voice.
