04:39As Jesus was walking on, he saw a man named Matthew sitting by the customs house, and he said to

04:45Follow me. And he got up and followed him.
04:49While he was at dinner in the house, it happened that a number of tax collectors and sinners
04:55came to sit at the table with Jesus and his disciples.
04:59When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples,
05:04Why does your master eat with tax collectors and sinners?
05:08When he heard this, he replied,
05:11It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick.
05:16Go and learn the meaning of the words, For thy worth is mercy, not sacrifice.
05:21And indeed, I did not come to call the virtuous, but sinners.

05:37Matthew hated, seen as a collaborator with the Romans, with taxes for the Roman Empire.
05:45He leaves everything when Jesus calls him and becomes an apostle and evangelist,
05:50a man who turned his life upside down by following Jesus and found life.
05:58Like Matthew, we are called to continue letting Jesus turn us upside down,
06:03to make us free, so that we can also follow, as his disciples, each one of us in our own
06:10different vocation.
06:13What I want is mercy, not sacrifice, said Jesus.
06:26Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for to your goodness we have this bread to offer,
06:31which what it has given human hands have made.
06:33It will become for us the bread of life. Blessed be God forever.
