00:29But let's not get distracted.
00:31Up here on the camera plateau we have the same super sharp angles as we saw on last year's
00:36iPhone 17 Pro.
00:37So the anodizing is just as likely to chip on this year's phone as last year's.
00:42But the new thing that Apple added to the 18 Pro is the variable aperture main camera lens
00:47at the bottom of the triple trifecta.
00:49If I bump up my own camera's aperture we can better see the iPhone camera aperture.
00:54More light equals a brighter image.
00:56And now this new iPhone can mechanically add or subtract light from a picture.
01:01Thumbs up for that.
01:01We learned all about this when Samsung did it first on Android about 7 years ago.
01:06So Apple is right on cue.
01:08Zooming in with a microscope makes it look even more fascinating.
01:12My little microscope is self lit which helps us see the texture on the back of the iPhone
01:16body as well as see inside of the camera lens.
01:20The 6 fins are all opening and closing at the same time.
01:23It'll be very interesting to take a look at the mechanics from the inside of the phone
01:27here in a bit.
01:27Whether we take it apart manually or it breaks open during the durability test, whichever comes
01:32first.
01:33The other new thing that Apple reinvented this year is the under screen camera.
01:37Red Magic and ZTE started doing this about 6 years ago, which means that again Apple is
01:42right on time.
01:43Ignore the dust spec, but you can see through the pixels on the screen to where the infrared
01:48camera sits, where it handles the face ID stuff.
01:51We'll test it out here in a second.
01:53I still can't get over this color though.
01:55Kind of reminds me of the time I spilled grape juice on the carpet.
01:58Setting the coagulated pig's blood colored iPhone back on my desk, it's time to scratch
02:02the screen.
02:02Last year Apple gave us a brand new, surprisingly scratch resistant ceramic shield 2 cover glass.
02:16And they're using the same slab again this year.
02:18Which again, scratches at a level 7 with deeper grooves at a level 8.
02:23Still sounds very weird to say, but you gotta give credit where credit is due and it's good
02:28to get confirmation of the iPhone's durability.
02:32There is a rumor floating around that some privacy screen protectors can throw off the
02:36under display infrared face unlocking camera.
02:38You know, the privacy tinted or anti-glare ones.
02:41But if you get an optically clear screen protector, like this prism screen protector from my channel
02:46sponsor dbrand, it'll add a completely functional, transparent layer of protection against drops
02:51and dings.
02:56Plus, the applicator makes installing the glass pretty fool proof.
03:00And yeah, the iPhone glass is definitely more scratch resistant to be sure, but glass is
03:05still glass and screen protectors will help keep the screen from shattering during drops.
03:10Gotta keep that smaller dynamic island and under screen camera safe.
03:14Flipping the phone around again to the cough syrup colored frame, we can see that indeed
03:19the body is aluminum.
03:22And the buttons are not removable.
03:25Up here at the top of the iPhone 18 Pro, we have the plastic 5G antenna and more aluminum.
03:33The left side has even more aluminum, some metal volume buttons, and the dedicated action button.
03:40Down at the bottom we have our lower stereo loudspeaker and microphone holes and 60 watt fast charging.
03:46Which, and I hate to bring this up, is the same charging speed Oppo launched back in 2019, 7 years
03:53ago.
03:53So again, Apple is right on time.
03:56If you want to know the specs of next year's iPhone, just check on what Androids were doing about 6
04:00or 7 years ago,
04:01and Apple will deliver.
04:03Luckily, I do have videos of every mainstream phone ever made, so it's easy to go back and check.

04:11Making our way over to the back panel, it looks like it's been shaking too many hands, if you know
04:15what I mean.
04:17Kind of reminds me of the color of Elon's face when a poor kid gets to eat.
04:21Up on the metal plateau we find our three camera lenses, and yeah, they are all the same 48 megapixel
04:26sensors from last year.
04:2748 wide angle, 48 telephoto, and 48 megapixel main camera.
04:32The only thing new is the variable aperture on that bottom unit.
04:35The camera lenses do not pop off like they do on Samsung's phones.
04:39And the border surrounding the plateau is definitely made from plastic.
04:46This is to help the cell signals, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth get better reception, since plastic is more transparent to
04:52those wavelengths.
04:53It's got the same shade as the kidney you just sold to afford the phone.
04:57As far as the material back here goes, if your phone is in the same pocket as your keys,
05:02there will obviously be some material transfer from the metal keys to the glass back, and that anodized plateau, so
05:11be aware of that.
05:12Coins as well, keep those in a separate pocket or purse.
05:15Pennies aren't too bad, not that we have to worry about those too much anymore.
05:19I also have a structural rivet from the Golden Gate Bridge.
05:26And some fossilized dinosaur poop, because you never know what you might encounter out there.
05:34What's really cool though about this casino carpet colored iPhone 18 Pro is that nearly
05:38100% of the scratches we just made brush right off the surface.
05:43Everything except the dinosaur poop.
05:45But now we know, right?
05:46Knowledge is power.
05:49The screen of this iPhone 18 Pro is basically identical to the iPhone 17 Pro.
05:53Same 6.3 inches, same 3000 nits, same 120 hertz and same resolution.
05:59The only difference is a slightly smaller dynamic island at the top.
06:03It lasts for about 25 seconds under the heat from my flame without taking any permanent damage.
06:08But you know, don't try this at home because I am a professional.
06:11Finally, the vent test.
06:13Rumor is that Apple put a much larger vapor chamber in the phone this time around.
06:17And even with that extra layer of cooling, the iPhone 18 Pro remains solid, rigid, and
06:24unflexing.
06:24The only thing that will ever hurt this iPhone 18 Pro is a drop, which if you live somewhere
06:29affected by gravity, is something to keep in mind.
