As I walked the beach,
where the ripples continually wash,
I heard, dolefully ringing,
an ocean-bell,
O a warning bell,
rock’d by the waves,
The mournful notes
foreboding a tempest,
White drift spooning ahead
where the ship in the tempest dashes.
O you give good notice indeed,
you bell by the sea-reefs ringing,
Ringing, ringing,
to warn the ship from its wreck-place.
