Prince Harry opens up about how becoming a father has changed the way he meets the families supported by WellChild, the charity he has been patron of for around 19 years.

The Duke of Sussex reveals what the children and parents mean to him, how he shared the evening's work with Archie and Lilibet over breakfast, and the very British habits the family has picked up since being back in the UK, from long walks to Marmite on crumpets.

00:00Harry, you have been patron of Well Child now for about 19 years, since long before you became a dad
00:05yourself.
00:06How has fatherhood changed the way that you react to meeting these families?
00:11Wasn't there a video how many years ago now?
00:14There were a few tears, weren't there?
00:15It wasn't tears, it was that horrible moment when your voice cracks or breaks, that kind of thing.
00:23So yes, in all honesty and in simple terms, I think once you become a parent, it does change everything.
00:30It's not the fact that for all the years that I wasn't a parent that meeting the kids didn't matter
00:35as much.
00:36But you suddenly realize how grateful you are to have kids that aren't sick.
00:43And again, day in, day out, coming off the back of kids have been out for 11 weeks.
00:51But you find yourself going, wow, in that room with those parents, you really can't complain about anything.
00:57Of course, it's all relative, but the inspiration that I get from these guys, not just the kids, but the
01:04parents themselves, it fills me up for a whole year.
01:09And do you talk to Archie and Lilibet about the kids that you meet here?
01:14How are you sort of passing on that empathy and compassion that you've shown over all these years?
01:18Yeah, so breakfast this morning, they had a bit of Monday blues.
01:24It was always Sunday night blues when you're being sent away to boarding school, I think I was.
01:29But for them, at breakfast this morning, I decided, you know what, you're just being a little bit tricky.
01:35So I'm going to tell you exactly what I'm doing tonight.
01:37And they were genuinely fascinated and interested and had all sorts of questions.
01:41So, look, like with all of my work and their mum's work as well, whatever we can do to try
01:48to instill some of that awareness, I think, is absolutely crucial for all kids.
01:53And now, you told us last week that you're settling in well to the UK.
01:57What's the most British thing you've done with the family since you've been back?
02:02Gone for a walk.
02:03Lots of walks.
02:04Isn't that the most British thing?
02:05Well, that's the British thing.
02:07I already tried beans on toast.
02:09How did that go?
02:10That was in California.
02:11That was years ago.
02:11Actually, it didn't go down very well at all.
02:14I was quite surprised.
02:16But yes, okay, marmite on crumpets.
02:19Please tell me that's a British thing because it's always been in my life.
02:22And now the kids are eating marmite on crumpets, which is a big moment for me.
02:27So they approve of marmite?
02:29They do.
02:30They do approve of marmite.
02:30They used to diss me for having marmite in the house, and now they're in the UK.
02:35It's like that's kind of like water under the bridge.
02:37So it's good.
02:38And now you're back.
02:40You're hoping to be doing a lot more work with Wellchild with your other patronages too.
02:44Yeah, of course.
02:45So it's, yes, no longer being 5,000 miles away should make it easier to be more available
02:51to support the charities that need us and that we really enjoy working with.
