The White Ship

A lively celebration unfolds aboard the White Ship as it sails through the moonlit English Channel in 1120. Lanterns glow across the wooden deck while young Norman nobles and sailors sing, clap, and dance together to the sound of drums, fiddle, flute, and stomping boots.

Some dancers spin in pairs, others link arms and move in a loose circle, laughing and raising their cups. Berold, the butcher from Rouen, watches from the side before being pulled into the celebration, joining awkwardly with a smile.

The camera moves through the dancers, capturing joyful faces, moving cloaks, clapping hands, and boots striking the deck in rhythm.

In the final moments, the camera slowly turns away from the celebration toward the dark open sea, while the music and laughter continue behind it.

A joyful moment before the voyage takes a darker turn.
