00:01Several European AI firms and also officials, they've been questioning the intentions behind Dario Amodey and other U.S. executives'
00:11call for a slowdown in AI development.
00:14They've expressed skepticism and they've said that the narrative presented by U.S. companies was a way to strengthen their
00:23dominance on the market.
00:25So, for instance, there is a French startup called Mistral AI who said that some incumbents are using this moment
00:33to consolidate their market position and that they are pushing for a regulation that would favor them over competitors and
00:41that the risks around AI had been known for several months.
00:47There have been varying degrees of weariness.
00:51So, one strong position, for instance, was that of the COO of Proton, which is a Swiss privacy software firm.
00:59And he said that he thought that we could not trust the U.S. claims for a slowdown in AI
01:07development.
01:08He said we are total skeptics and that this was totally self-serving.
01:13Other European companies have said things along the same lines.
01:20So, in Germany, there is also the head of public policy at a German AI startup called Black Forest Labs,
01:27who said that moves to enforce a gap between big labs and new entrants on the basis of arbitrary thresholds
