00:00I'm Kelly and I'm here at the 25th anniversary of the Illawarra Relay for Life here at the UOW Innovation
00:07Campus in Wollongong.
00:08Today we are here to celebrate, remember and fight back for those people who are undergoing cancer, who have survived
00:14cancer or who have been sadly lost in the fight against cancer in Australia.
00:18This is a beloved local event, we've got around 300 people here and 40 teams walking to remember those who
00:26have lost a cancer and to raise funds for those who are potentially still undergoing treatment or who will need
00:32our support in the future.
00:33So far, the Illawarra Relay for Life over its 25 years has raised around $4.6 million and we're hoping
00:41to add another $80,000 to that tally this year at the relay and we're pretty close to our goal.
00:48We're just over halfway with the majority of funds coming in at the event today.
00:52So today we have the Illawarra Relay for Life, 25 years of Illawarra Relay, it's an absolutely important and amazing
00:59event, amazing for our community and amazing as Cancer Council is 94% community funded.
01:05So leading research, cancer care, family care, transport to treatment care as well too.
01:13So it's an absolutely vital, vital initiative that is needed in our community.
01:18As everyone knows, cancer doesn't discriminate between age, race or gender.
