When Choi Jeong-Yo reunites with Kang Pi-o at their old school, Pi-o blames his tendonitis for avoiding the piano. Jeong-Yo wonders if the real problem is a slump — and then reveals the painful reason he understands the difference.

Nine years earlier, Jeong-Yo was shot in the right shoulder. The resulting nerve damage didn’t interfere with everyday life, but it took away his ability to play piano at the level he once could. Unable to reclaim his life as a pianist, he found another way to make music by becoming an orchestra conductor.

Pi-o may believe Jeong-Yo has moved on, but Jeong-Yo admits the truth: a slump can be overcome. His injury cannot. And that’s why he actually envies Pi-o.
