00:07Good evening, you're watching To The Point. I am Preeti Chaudhuri. Our top focus is the
00:12national capital this evening, viewers. While rightly so, we are fixated on the sexual crime
00:18that happened in Jammui, where two young kids, teenagers were targeted. In all of this, there
00:25have been five incidents of sexual assault in five weeks where the national capital is
00:30concerned. The latest of a young teenager herself, 17-year-old, who was gang-raped in Kalkaji,
00:37South Delhi. Her friend assaulted by three men who posed to be policemen. All of that
00:43coming up. First, allow me to take you through the headlines.
00:51Main accused in Jammui sexual assault shocker nabbed in an encounter by Bihar cops. Main
00:56accused was covered in saffron gamcha. Nandan Yadav shot in the leg, arrested along with another
01:02accused, Hariram.
01:10Two shocking minor rapes rock the capital. Six-year-old raped in Central Delhi. Massive
01:16public anger over Delhi child rape. Mob attacks accused and mother. Another 17-year-old gang-raped
01:23in Kalkaji by three men posing as police officials. Amidst raging protests over IIT Bombay, student
01:35suicide, parents cry for justice, demand IIT professors arrest. Faculty rallies behind accused
01:41professor. Cops scan CCTV footage to create timeline of events.
01:52Biggest clincher in Tamil Nadu Epstein files accused Shanti, who managed the House of Horror,
01:58makes a shocking claim, says Veera Mani approached with sexual intentions.
02:10AC unit explosion killed three infants in a Telangana hospital. One five-day-old infant on ventilator
02:17support completely charged. AC unit blew up in hospital in middle of the night. 27 to 30 infants
02:24were present.
02:33India win gold medal in women's cricket at the Asian Games 2026. First gold for India.
02:39Beat Sri Lanka in women's cricket final. Seventh medal for India in Asian Games 2026.
03:03All right, we have the latest news break right now coming in. Horrific details emerge in the Delhi
03:08rape order. Victim had gone to Kalkaji Mandir on her birthday. Victim's friend made the call to the
03:15Delhi police. The victim's friend was held away as all three took turns to gang rape this young girl.
03:23She was gang raped on her birthday. She had gone to the Kalkaji Mandir. After that, she went to visit
03:28this park with her friend. The park is managed by DDA, barely lit, multiple unsafe spots. Locals claim
03:35park gates not regularly closed as well. Today, the Delhi police conducted patrolling sanitization
03:42drive at the park. Once again, too little, too late viewers. I will take you through on what really
03:48happened where a 17 year old young girl who had gone to the Kalkaji Mandir in South Delhi on her
03:55birthday
03:55with a friend of hers. After that, had gone to the park in Kalkaji, the Aastha Kunj park in Kalkaji,
04:05which is
04:05frequented by many. She went there with her friend. There, she was attacked by three men posing as
04:12police personnel. They separated her friend from her. Her friend was apparently held and assaulted
04:19while all three men took turns to gang rape this young 17 year old girl. I am joined right now
04:26by
04:26my colleague Shreya Chatterjee on the phone line. Shreya, can you detail exactly, you know, what is the
04:32latest what you have and what really happened that night? Well, you know, it's an extremely
04:38unfortunate incident. I myself spent some time at the Aastha Kunj park today and it is an unsafe spot
04:45to say the least because it's barely maintained. There are multiple unsafe zones and that's exactly why
04:51these people thought that they could easily get away with it. Something to me which was extremely
04:56shocking to know was it was the girl's birthday and that's the reason she had visited the Mandir.
05:02Then she had gone to the Aastha Kunj park and it was around 6.30 when she entered the park.
05:08For our viewers, this park is open till 8 pm. The fact that when a park is open, it needs
05:14to be
05:14managed as well because this is a recreational spot and the onus lies on the government that way. So
05:21clearly the question is on the law and order on the apparatus that why is a public park maintained by
05:27the DDA an unsafe zone because if it's my birthday, very well after visiting a Mandir, I can go to
05:33a
05:34park. So this is a bigger question that needs to be answered. Three of these people identified in the
05:39incident are Asif, Hemant and Mukesh. Interestingly, I was told by a Delhi police official conducting the
05:45investigation that one of the accused was also thrown out of the gym for each teasing a woman. So clearly
05:51there is a past angle involved with the probability why these people thought that they could get away
05:56with it. But extremely unfortunate incident and not just one treaty. So many such incidents reported
06:03alone from the national capsule. The jungle's horror is something the nation is still responding to and then
06:08this happens in the national capsule in Kalkarri. This is South Delhi area and it was the girl's birthday. I
06:21just lay bare the timeline of this incident. You know, I just want to add to it for those of
06:25you,
06:25as Shreya just pointed out, she herself has been to the Aastha Kunsh Park. I have gone to the Lady
06:30Sriram College. Many of the girls who study at the Lady Sriram College live right next to the park in
06:36multiple PGs. But can you give us a timeline, Shreya, of the entire incident? Well, absolutely. You know,
06:43it's around 5.30 around that they went to the Mandir. Then subsequently they entered the park. They
06:48wanted to spend some time alone and that's exactly when these three men spotted them. They identified
06:55them as Kunik of the Fools, tried to scare them away. The man was taken to a separate area. Now,
07:00the reason all this was possible treaty was what I mentioned. This is an unsafe park. No food
07:04dwellings, no well-lit area. But even then, the question is, the park was open till 80 until it was
07:11no
07:11fault on the part of the victim or the victim strength to be present there. At 7.30 around
07:168 is when the incident took place with them. After that, they made a PCR call and subsequently
07:21the police has arrested the individual. But the timeline, as I mentioned, this is not midnight
07:26we're talking about. We're talking about evening. And if on my birthday, on an evening, I cannot visit
07:31a Mandir and then visit a park and feel safe in the national capital, that really puts a lot of
07:36question on the safety and security apparatus of this country. You know, Shreya, the fact is,
07:41even if she decided to go out at 12 o'clock, this city is responsible for her safety. It doesn't
07:47matter whether it was 7.30. Yes, the park was open till late. She was there well within the hours
07:51of the park being operational. But even if this girl was out at 12, 1, 2, 3 or 4 at
07:57night,
07:58the city is responsible for her safety. But Shreya, one very quick question. The girl was admitted to
08:04Ames. Is she doing well now? Well, yes, she is doing well. I mean, things that the police responded to.
08:13She was given medical support. But even then now, the police is making a case about it because they
08:19are identifying whether there are any past instances attached to be accused. They will
08:25soon. I mean, they will be reduced in court and there will be custody sought of these individuals
08:29at what we're learning right now. But extremely unfortunate incident that's took place. And
08:34you're right to say that we should be safe at any point of the time in the national capital. The
08:39time shouldn't be the reason. Fair point, Shreya. Thank you there for joining us with all the
08:44details there. My colleague Shreya Achaduji breaking the details down on what's really happened in the
08:48national capital. Once again, viewers, nobody's saying one shouldn't be, but we are fixated with what has
08:53happened in Jamui primarily because there was visual documentation of that incident in the national
08:58capital. There have been five incidents in five weeks where minors have been attacked. The latest
09:04are 17-year-old young girl gang raped and also a six-year-old child raped in central Delhi, where
09:12we
09:12take you through all these incidents that have taken place, a deeply disturbing trail of sexual violence
09:18incidents across the national capital. From a teenager allegedly gang raped by men posing as
09:23policemen to young girls targeted in separate incidents across the capital. Here's more.
09:33four assault cases of minors, 14 days. Delhi's disturbing trail of crimes against minors.
09:43In Kalkaji, a 17-year-old was allegedly gang raped by three men who posed as policemen. The teen girl
09:49had
09:50visited a park with a friend. The three men posing as cops accused them of wrongdoing and threatened to
09:55register a case against them, then separated them and took her to a secluded part of Aastakunj Park,
10:01where they allegedly raped her. The hunt began. Asif was tracked to Amar colony. Police claimed he
10:09opened fire. A bullet hit her head constable's jacket. Police retaliated. Asif was shot in the leg and
10:16arrested. The other two accused were then arrested as the police hunt closed in on an entire group.
10:26The baan must have dawned on an accident. The two men made the name. The two men were
10:37killed. The two men received came in the death. The two men were shot. The two men were
10:39asked. So they was punished at the same time. The investigation were killed by the
10:42official investigation и не были. The three men came from the left. It was true. These men
11:13Gang rape cloaked as policing, men posing as cops, using the threat of police action to terrorize a teenager.
11:21A chilling echo of Jammui where the crime was allegedly cloaked as moral policing.
11:26And Kalkaji was not an isolated case.
11:32In central Delhi, a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped on a busy stretch of the Dejbandhu Gupta road.
11:38Angry locals brought accused to police. A case was registered under the POCSO Act.
11:47Then another case.
11:49In Sadar Bazar, an 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped inside a tailor's shop.
11:54Police say the accused leered her inside, tied her down and later abandoned her outside the shop.
11:59The accused has been arrested and sent into judicial custody.
12:04And days earlier in Swarupnagar, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped and murdered.
12:09Her body was found dumped in a field.
12:13The opposition is now targeting the BGP government and the Delhi police over women's safety.
12:21Four cases, 14 days and 14 years after Nirbhaya, Delhi is still confronting crimes against girls and minors.
12:28So how much has really changed?
12:30And how safe are women and girls in the national capital?
12:34We have a report, India Today.
12:41One can get kind of confused when you say, oh, it's happened in Kalkaji, South Delhi.
12:46Let me break it down for you.
12:47How many of our viewers actually know about the Lady Sriram College?
12:51Every year, it makes it to the top three colleges of arts across the country.
12:56That's how big and popular this college is.
12:59I am myself an alumni from Lady Sriram College.
13:02And this incident happened in the back lane of Lady Sriram College.
13:06The back lane of one of the biggest and most sought-after colleges,
13:13not just in the national capital, but across the country.
13:16It is an all-women's college where the park where this incident happened in
13:20is dotted by PGs where young girls from the age group of 18 to 21
13:25who go for classes to the Lady Sriram College live.
13:29So let's look at it from that lens.
13:31It's happened in the back lane, this incident of a 17-year-old young girl
13:35being gang-raped in the back lane of the Lady Sriram College.
13:41Connecting now to Renuka Choudhury, member, Indian National Congress,
13:46union minister, former union minister for women and child development,
13:50member of parliament, now currently Raju Sabha.
13:52Lalita Kumara Manglam, former chairperson, NCW, BJP leader,
13:56Yodhapita Bayana, women rights activist.
13:59And Anusha Garg, who is a student of Lady Sriram College
14:03and she is also the president of Lady Sriram College.
14:08Ms. Choudhury, I'd like to begin with you.
14:10You know, to put this in perspective,
14:11nobody once is denying that we shouldn't be horrified what's happened in Jammui.
14:15We should be horrified.
14:16But because that was visual evidence that was documented,
14:20it shocks us that much more.
14:22In the national capital, Ms. Choudhury,
14:24there have been five sexual assault cases in five weeks.
14:27In just the last 48 hours, two minors,
14:31one 17-year-old girl gang-raped behind Lady Sriram College
14:34and one seven-year-old child, six-year-old child,
14:37I beg your pardon, raped in central Delhi.
14:44Preeti, first of all, I'm speaking today as a woman,
14:47a mother, a sister, a daughter.
14:50Really, the rest of the rank and file,
14:52doesn't matter what stage of life we've reached in our careers,
14:56but I am talking in all these roles because it's concerning us.
15:03And the national capital has been the national capital of rape for many years now.
15:08You go to see, I'm not going to politicize this.
15:11I don't want to put caste politics into it.
15:14I do not want to talk about the failings of all of us collectively.
15:18I can't believe that we're actually sitting and discussing yet another statistic of rape.
15:27Why? Why are we still in this situation where girls are being raped,
15:33they're predators all around, we are being hunted,
15:36and we still keep talking about it, talking.
15:41And this government, it's supposed to be the capital of the country.
15:46So how do we?
15:48We've actually had people, countries, giving notices to their tourists,
15:53saying that don't go because it's not safe.
15:56Aren't we collectively ashamed?
15:58I can't believe that young girls, these creeps and cops,
16:03what are we going to do about it?
16:05This is something we cannot keep talking about and we've got to do it.
16:09People don't understand.
16:10There's a whole cascade effect that happens.
16:14Female feticide, infanticide, gender discrimination, laws against women,
16:20all these come because parents find having a daughter is a liability and we can't look after them.
16:28Child marriages, all these practices continue today,
16:32keeping girls away from schools and colleges, workplaces don't want to take women.
16:37When I was a trade union leader, I used to have an industry telling me we don't want women,
16:41quite blatantly, they'd say, you have to have systemic reforms.
16:47We've got to take good practices from other countries.
16:50People have to be afraid of rape.
16:53Being a girl cannot be discriminated against so much that we are hunted, poached on, knocked down, discriminated against
17:06and the entire responsibility of being a girl in this society is on the woman.
17:11If you go to a pub and you are heckled or raped there, then it's your fault because you were
17:17out there 10.
17:18It's because of the dress you wore.
17:20It's because of this.
17:21Rape has been a war weapon in history.
17:25Rape has been power politics in states.
17:28Rape has been discriminatory against certain caste women.
17:33And now it is a pastime.
17:36It is accessible.
17:38Anyone can go rape any girl.
17:40Because it doesn't matter.
17:42The law doesn't do anything about it.
17:44That is the failure.
17:46That is the failure.
17:47I want the Home Minister to come out and give an assurance.
17:52Ms. Chaudhary, thank you there for joining us.
17:54You know, I need to cut to President Trump.
17:59But I want to bring in all three of our guests.
18:00At least get a comment each from all of them.
18:02Ms. Chaudhary, thank you for putting your point forward.
18:04And thank you for joining us.
18:06Ms. Badwar, I'd like to bring you in.
18:08You know, you have been the chairperson of NCW.
18:11And it's beyond party lines.
18:13You're from the BJP.
18:14Ms. Chaudhary is from the Congress.
18:15The fact is something needs to change.
18:17And it needs to change very quickly.
18:19And we need to figure out what's the way out.
18:22Policing, it's not happening.
18:24It's something that needs to take place.
18:25But what is the way out of this?
18:31There is no immediate intervention that will decree this.
18:39But I think to start with, especially this time,
18:43the CM of Delhi needs to come out and make a very strong statement.
18:47Regardless of what party she may be from, she is the CM.
18:51And it's not about her being a woman.
18:53The fact is that unless she comes out and says that in some way,
18:59I will take a personal interest in this and ensure that the perpetrators of these times
19:06are not only held responsible and accountable,
19:08but also see that the matter is past act and justice is delivered.
19:13One, two, as Renuka Chaudhary said, and I agree with her there,
19:19we need very strong systemic reform.
19:22Not such reform, very, very strong across the board.
19:25Political parties, politicians need to come together,
19:29sit together without doing tutu mehmeh,
19:31and actually see that every state,
19:35regardless of who is in power, who is not in power, etc.,
19:39every state puts these reforms into place.
19:43The police is also very slow.
19:46It's not always their fault.
19:47That's why I'm saying that when she says systemic reform,
19:50she's absolutely right.
19:51We also need to start actually bringing up our boys in this country better.
19:57They still are way too entitled, and this is across the board.
20:01And as parents, as individuals, as politicians, as human beings,
20:06we need to start putting the needs.
20:09And what is the right of every girl that is safety in public places?
20:13We really need to make that perhaps even part of the curriculum.
20:18I mean, if girls are raped within IIT,
20:20if you have, which has happened in Chennai,
20:23if girls are raped in public places, in schools, at homes, everywhere,
20:26then where are we safe?
20:28And if we are not safe anywhere,
20:29what does it say about us as a country, as a people?
20:34It's supposed to be India growing, India shining,
20:37and all the rest of it.
20:37These are just terms.
20:39They don't mean anything at all
20:40if our girls are still so unsafe wherever they go.
20:45And I think it's time that we really,
20:47all of us, put our differences together,
20:49regardless of what they may be.
20:51Put the past aside and get together
20:54to form a really strong, you know,
20:58it's not a party, a really strong group, perhaps,
21:02and that's a very small word,
21:04and get together to see that everything is put in place.
21:08Maybe responsibilities are divided,
21:11but everybody has to sit together.
21:13It can't be one party versus another,
21:15one department versus another, etc.
21:17In India, we also lack, you know, coordination.
21:21That has to become better everywhere.
21:24I'm bang on, you're right.
21:26And, you know,
21:26shouldn't keep telling girls,
21:27don't go here, don't go there.
21:29Imam, you are bang on.
21:31And, you know,
21:32the onus is no longer on the women.
21:34I think the women of this country
21:35have just had enough,
21:36especially of the national capital
21:37with what has happened.
21:38But, Ms. Chaudhuri,
21:39I know you want to come in.
21:40Just allow me to bring in our two other guests
21:41because we have a UNGA live summit
21:44that we'll have to cut to.
21:45I just want to get all of them to say a line in.
21:48And I want to cut across Yogita.
21:50I want, before Yogita, you know,
21:51if you're all right,
21:52I want to bring in young Anusha.
21:53She's the president of Lady Sriram College.
21:55And there's a reason I'm bringing her in
21:57because I have been flooded with,
21:59you know, DMs through the course of the day.
22:02I'm an alumni from Lady Sriram College.
22:04Anusha, you are the president of LSR.
22:06And really nothing much has changed
22:08because in the last 24 hours,
22:10I have been flooded with DMs.
22:12This incident on paper says,
22:14Kalkaji, this incident has happened
22:16in the back lane of the college
22:18that you are the president of,
22:20Lady Sriram College.
22:21And it is the same lane, Yogita,
22:23which many years ago when I was in college,
22:26men openly masturbated when girls walked
22:28where you had, and, you know,
22:30nothing has changed
22:31because I have got DMs
22:32where young girls are saying,
22:34still, you have auto rickshaw wallas
22:36who are openly playing porn.
22:38You are openly harassed in that lane.
22:40which is never policed.
22:42Nothing has changed.
22:52Anusha, I just want you to detail
22:54why are so many of the girls
22:56who go to LSR today fear coming to college
22:59because a lot of them have PGs around that park
23:02where this incident has occurred.
23:04A lot of them have gone home.
23:05Some of the classes have been cancelled
23:07because of it.
23:08Sure.
23:10As a young woman myself,
23:12what concerns me is the larger reality
23:14that safety becomes a constant background
23:17calculation for us.
23:19What time do we leave?
23:20What route do we take?
23:22Should I share my location with my friends?
23:24Is my phone charged?
23:25How will I manage everything?
23:27So, I think we are so accustomed
23:29to managing,
23:31taking precautions everywhere we go.
23:33For me, real safety means
23:35women should be able to, you know,
23:36participate in ordinary public lives,
23:38activities and stuff.
23:40And I don't want to just
23:41beat around the bush.
23:42I want to flag that
23:44we, women's,
23:47the roots,
23:48the actual roots
23:49that we use every day.
23:50Maybe the map that stretches students
23:52repeatedly flagged
23:53between colleges,
23:55schools,
23:55everywhere.
23:56We bring this to concerns.
23:58Metro stations,
23:58metro rooms,
23:59bus stops,
24:00TGs and market area.
24:01There are so many problems.
24:03There is lightning problem.
24:04There is,
24:04oh,
24:06last mile transport problems.
24:07As you mentioned,
24:09there is problem of
24:10auto rickshaw wallas,
24:11openly people masturbating and stuff.
24:13And I want to say that
24:14making,
24:15and maybe having a proper auditory check,
24:18maybe making reporting simple
24:20and trustworthy
24:21where students exactly know
24:22whom to reach out to,
24:24who to reach out to
24:26and what happens,
24:27what goes wrong.
24:28And third of all,
24:29a civic sense,
24:30a civic authority
24:31need a system
24:32where these reconcerning concerns
24:34are actually worked upon
24:35and not just,
24:37you know,
24:37every day we're having the gates.
24:38Anusha,
24:39how many young girls
24:40who go to LSR
24:41live around the Aastha Kunj Park
24:43because lots of PGs
24:44are still there?
24:46Ma'am,
24:46around 2 to 3K girls.
24:492,000-3,000 girls
24:50live around the Aastha Kunj Park
24:51where this incident happened.
24:53Right?
24:53Yes.
24:54And how many of them
24:54have now gone back home
24:56because their parents are so worried?
24:57Because I believe
24:58a lot of classes
24:59have also been cancelled.
25:00Yes, ma'am,
25:01we are actually looking into it
25:03and right now
25:04we are trying to
25:05accommodate online classes
25:07in our college
25:07and hopefully
25:09we have tried our best.
25:11We are also
25:11taking initiatives
25:13as students union.
25:14So,
25:15that's in way.
25:16You know,
25:16this is how bizarre it is,
25:17Yogita Bhayana,
25:18that Lady Sriram College,
25:20the top women's college
25:21in this country,
25:23the top three colleges
25:24across this country
25:25today has to resort
25:26to taking online classes
25:27because the girls
25:28are so scared
25:29to come to college.
25:31What else we can discuss?
25:33I mean,
25:34for God's sake,
25:35we have so many
25:36great international summits
25:37happening in our country
25:38where we are discussing
25:40and finding solutions
25:41to international problems
25:42and wars
25:43and whatnot.
25:43We are unable
25:44to protect our own daughters.
25:46We are unable
25:46to have a dialogue
25:47with each other.
25:49Different agencies
25:50under one roof,
25:51different governments,
25:53they are not able
25:53to find solutions
25:54because they are not ready
25:55to sit with each other.
25:56We are ready
25:57to sit with
25:58other country members
25:59to discuss
26:00the international problems
26:01but we don't want
26:02to solve our own problems
26:03which is the major problem.
26:05Our daughters
26:06are being raped
26:07every now and then,
26:08here and there.
26:09I am from Miranda House.
26:10I resonated
26:11what exactly you said.
26:12Whatever you described
26:14happened outside my college
26:15even then
26:16and this girl,
26:16I can understand
26:17this young girl's
26:19experience.
26:20Why do we have to
26:21follow a drill
26:22to even step out?
26:23We have a proper SOP
26:24for our girls,
26:26for ourselves.
26:27Why do we suffer?
26:28Why do we go
26:29to online classes?
26:30What is this nonsense
26:31going on?
26:32Why can't we protect
26:33our daughters?
26:33As simple as that.
26:35And this particular spot,
26:37six months ago,
26:37I rescued a girl
26:38while she was being alive
26:41because some of the
26:42volunteers were very
26:43active to alert me.
26:44They tried to drag her
26:45in an auto, Yogita.
26:46That was the case
26:48where this young girl
26:49was somebody
26:49tried to drag her
26:50into an auto.
26:51No, she was raped
26:52inside a juggi.
26:54Oh, wow.
26:54Okay.
26:55That's another incident
26:55which was never quite
26:56reported because
26:57two months ago,
26:58a young girl outside
26:59behind LSR
27:00in that road
27:00where Anusha
27:01speaking of
27:02where this incident
27:03has happened,
27:04somebody tried to
27:05drag that girl
27:05in an auto.
27:06Yes, that also
27:08happened.
27:08But this, we
27:09actually rescued her
27:10while she was being
27:11raped and we took
27:12her to the police
27:13station, Amar
27:13Colony police station,
27:14exactly the same
27:15spot where this
27:16incident happened.
27:17And, you know,
27:18to my surprise,
27:20we took her and
27:21they kept her
27:23overnight because
27:24she was from
27:24West Bengal,
27:25young girl,
27:2616 year old.
27:27And she was
27:28an orphan and
27:29they kept her
27:30with the accused
27:31and left out
27:32next day,
27:33the accused
27:33while we being
27:34involved.
27:35I understand,
27:35Yogita,
27:36this country is
27:37broken where it
27:38comes to women's
27:39safety and how
27:40they understand
27:41women's safety
27:42and how they try
27:43to implement the
27:44laws around that.
27:45Ms. Chaudhary,
27:46I want to bring
27:46you back into
27:47this conversation.
27:47You've been
27:48wanting to make
27:48a point.
27:49Thank you for
27:49the patience,
27:50both Ms. Mangalam
27:51and Ms. Chaudhary.
27:52But Ms. Chaudhary,
27:53we've come to a
27:53place today because
27:54this is not news.
27:56Lady Sriram
27:56College today is
27:57looking at
27:58conducting online
27:59classes because
28:00the young girls
28:01who go to that
28:01college are so
28:02scared and
28:03the administration
28:04hasn't been able
28:05to instill that
28:06faith in them.
28:10Preeti,
28:11there's a rape
28:12that's happening
28:13one in 18
28:14minutes every
28:16day across
28:17the country.
28:18Lady Sriram
28:19is a privileged
28:20college and it's
28:21happening even
28:22there.
28:22There are hundreds
28:23of educational
28:24institutes which
28:25don't have the
28:26prestige or the
28:27recognition.
28:28Governments of
28:29India hire the
28:30air force to
28:31transport,
28:32exam papers for
28:35NEET.
28:35You can't
28:36secure the
28:37girls.
28:39Why are we so
28:40helpless?
28:41That's the point
28:42I'm asking.
28:43Why are we so
28:43helpless?
28:44You have to have
28:45capacity building in
28:46judiciary, you've
28:48got to have
28:48prosecutors, you've
28:50got to have
28:50forensic setups and
28:52you have to
28:53address chemical
28:55castrations.
28:56We already have
28:57sexual offenders
28:58registries across
28:59the country as
29:00a law.
29:01How many
29:02sexual offenders
29:03are reporting
29:03there in a
29:04police station?
29:05When a man is
29:06renting his
29:07property to
29:07someone, he
29:08should know
29:08whether that
29:09fellow is a
29:10sexual offender
29:11or not.
29:12A repeat
29:12sexual offender
29:13has to be
29:14chemically
29:15castrated.
29:16There are laws
29:16applying all
29:17over the world.
29:19Nobody rapes and
29:20gets away with it
29:21in UAE or
29:21United States or
29:23they do.
29:23They have other
29:24loopholes which
29:25they look at.
29:26But their best
29:27practices, Japan,
29:28other countries
29:29that have
29:30practiced it.
29:31In some
29:32countries, they
29:32ask for consent
29:33of the guy for
29:34chemical castration.
29:35If he can't
29:36keep his fly
29:37zipped, baby,
29:40then get to the
29:40root of the
29:41problem.
29:42That's how I
29:42see it.
29:44We're just sitting
29:45by the wayside
29:46wilting away and
29:47we've got to
29:48protect our
29:48daughters.
29:49It is the
29:50responsibility of
29:51the state.
29:53It is the
29:53accountability of
29:55anyone sitting in
29:56governance.
29:56I don't care which
29:57government.
29:58I don't care which
29:59party.
29:59Miss Mangalam,
30:00would you want to
30:00weigh in on this?
30:02Because there is
30:03a point.
30:03If that message is
30:04given, every
30:05police station now,
30:07as an exercise,
30:09Preeti, as an
30:09exercise, you have
30:10to bring in all
30:11the police, have to
30:12call in all the
30:13sexual offenders.
30:14I don't care whether
30:15they're today or
30:16yesterday that they've
30:17done it.
30:17Good point, ma'am.
30:18Good point.
30:19I want to bring in
30:21Miss Kumara Mangalam into
30:22this conversation.
30:24Miss Kumara Mangalam,
30:25the fact is, yes, we
30:26are appalled.
30:26I am appalled that
30:27nothing much has
30:28changed.
30:28And I am appalled that
30:30we are in 2026 and
30:32India's top women's
30:33college is contemplating
30:34online classes.
30:35But, you know, Miss
30:36Chaudhary has a point.
30:38There's privilege attached
30:39to Lady Sriram College,
30:40yet we are having this
30:41conversation.
30:42What about the
30:43others?
30:44I quite agree with
30:45her.
30:46I went to Stephen's
30:47many, many years ago.
30:48We were the first
30:48batch of girls.
30:49The prestige of the
30:50college where you
30:51study has a direct
30:54bearing on, you know,
30:55the opportunities that
30:56are given to anybody.
30:58And when girls are
30:59prevented from studying
31:01in what is called a
31:02good college, you are
31:03curtailing their
31:04freedom.
31:05You are curtailing
31:06their empowerment.
31:07All these big words
31:08that I use every day
31:09mean nothing if they
31:11cannot be safe in
31:12public spaces,
31:13especially educational
31:14places.
31:16India needs a huge
31:17mindset change.
31:18We still target girls
31:21who have been sexually
31:22molested, raped, etc.
31:24Somehow or the other,
31:25somewhere or the other,
31:27maybe those of us who
31:27come on TV, we are the
31:29very few ones who
31:30actually say loudly that
31:32it's not the girls'
31:33fault.
31:33It's the state's fault.
31:35It's the perpetrator's
31:36fault.
31:36It's the mindset.
31:38The mindset in India
31:39also needs to change.
31:41We need to really
31:42seriously look at value
31:44education in every
31:46school across the
31:47country, regardless of
31:49politics.
31:49We need to make it part
31:51of the curriculum where
31:52boys are told that,
31:54look, Buster, you're
31:56also going to get really
31:58badly, you know, I
31:59don't want to, I can't
32:00use the word I'd like to
32:01on national television,
32:02but you're going to get
32:03really badly treated and
32:05punished if you continue
32:06with your contempt for
32:08girls.
32:08All of this stems from
32:10the mindset where we
32:11think girls don't mean as
32:13much as boys.
32:14that they don't have
32:16that much worth.
32:17When I see the
32:18president of El-Assad
32:19sitting on this panel and
32:22saying what she does, it
32:24takes me back to my
32:25student days of just a few
32:26years ago.
32:27Nothing much has changed.
32:29And it is now, according
32:31to me, in some way, much
32:32worse because we make no
32:34promises to the girls and
32:36we're not able to deliver
32:37it.
32:37So there has to be a
32:39systemic change across the
32:41board.
32:41Fair point, ma'am.
32:41And like I said, without
32:43the coordination of every
32:45association, organization,
32:47government, non-government,
32:48everybody, without finding
32:51fault in each other, yes,
32:52everybody has made
32:53mistakes and must be
32:54from the product.
32:55We need to sit down and
32:57see how accountability can
32:59be enforced.
33:01Everybody's top to bottom.
33:03Fair point.
33:04in a country like India,
33:05it's impossible.
33:06I just want to bring in,
33:07ma'am, I want to bring in
33:08Anusha and Yogata right
33:09before we get into a break
33:10because we have to cut to
33:11the UNGA.
33:12But Anusha, what is it that
33:13it will take to pacify the
33:16many girls who are now
33:17fearful of coming back to
33:19college?
33:19Some of them I know have
33:20gone home.
33:21Many of you are very scared
33:23and worried for yourselves.
33:26Is there counseling which is
33:28going on right now in your
33:29college?
33:30Ma'am, yes.
33:31My college is taking proper
33:32steps for everything.
33:33There has been proper
33:35support from our mentors,
33:36from the faculty, from
33:38principal, from our
33:39students' union.
33:40And I just feel that this
33:43should be an eye-opener
33:44because reportedly there
33:46have been 13,000 cases in
33:48Delhi, just talking about
33:49Delhi.
33:49And I think this is high
33:51time that we maintain
33:52proper audits.
33:53We ensure that women's
33:55safety is not a joke.
33:56People are actually taking
33:57steps.
33:57We have Pink Booth
33:58Nehara College, but still
33:59concerns are coming up.
34:01Is that Pink Booth ever
34:03manned, Anusha?
34:04Is there ever a woman
34:05cop in that Pink Booth?
34:07Because I'm told that
34:08Booth is only there, which
34:10is pink, and nobody is
34:11inside that Booth ever.
34:12No, ma'am.
34:12There is a woman inside
34:14the Booth.
34:14There is?
34:14Okay.
34:15Good.
34:15Which is good to know.
34:17Anusha, how many classes
34:18have been cancelled till
34:19now?
34:20Ma'am, classes?
34:21Okay, so it's regarding
34:23the departments and some
34:24professors are trying to
34:25get it online.
34:26Some are just cancelling
34:28the classes.
34:29But, yeah, hopefully
34:31things get better, and
34:32it's the fear that is,
34:33you know, propagated.
34:37No, I hear you, and I'm
34:38sorry, because I know
34:39you're the president.
34:39You also, somewhere down
34:40the line, have to stand
34:43up for your faculty, you
34:45know, for your, you
34:46know, students there.
34:47I understand you want to
34:48protect the repute of
34:51your college as well, and
34:52I get all of that, and I
34:53understand you're
34:53struggling with, you
34:55know, saying what you are
34:57also saying, but I'm
34:57glad that you're here today,
34:58Anusha, because you
35:00sitting there and saying
35:01for what it is, is more
35:02than any of us on this
35:04panel.
35:04So thank you, you know,
35:05for having the courage and
35:06coming out and saying what
35:08you are, because rarely has
35:10it ever happened that
35:11girls from affected
35:12colleges or presidents of
35:14colleges come out and
35:16verbalize what they are
35:17fearing or what's
35:18happening inside the
35:19college, because what
35:20stays in college, what
35:21happens in college stays
35:22inside the college.
35:23Thank you for verbalizing
35:24it on national television.
35:26Yogita, you wanted to
35:27come in.
35:28I just want to say one
35:29thing, Preeti.
35:30One day in parliament,
35:32across party line, just
35:34discuss this issue, how we
35:36can resolve it without
35:38having any bias, any
35:39particular party
35:41preference.
35:41Just talk about
35:42solutions.
35:43Can they do that?
35:44We have chosen them for
35:47these things only.
35:48You know, if they can't do
35:49that, I've been asking it
35:50for last seven years.
35:51None of them have shown any
35:53interest.
35:54One day in parliament, at
35:55least, they can discuss
35:56these.
35:56This is a very important
35:58issue.
35:58We have a girl in Swaroop
36:00Nagar last week, raped and
36:03killed to that level that
36:04you could not even know the
36:05gender.
36:05Her body was eaten by
36:08animals.
36:09I mean, are we talking
36:11about our power capital,
36:13our capital of the country?
36:15We are so proud of.
36:17I am not so proud of.
36:19As of now, we need to
36:20secure our daughters.
36:22On mission mode, repeatedly,
36:24I keep saying, operation
36:25beiti ko lana padega mission
36:27sindoor ki tarah mission
36:29beiti bi laiyeh aur beitioon
36:31ko bajayyeh uschey
36:32upar abhi kuch bhi nahi hai.
36:33Kitne bhi Brics summit
36:34karri kitne bade bade
36:35bade summit karri
36:36You are right.
36:36Forget about the Brics
36:37summit because, you know,
36:39we have one member of
36:40parliament with us from
36:41Rajya Sabha and Miss
36:42Chaudhary, for somebody like
36:43you who's a member of
36:44parliament, this is something
36:45that you can bring up
36:47because while there might
36:48be talks of a special
36:49session for whatever it
36:50might be, I think this
36:51warrants a special session
36:52of its own.
36:53Urgent session.
36:55Yes, I totally agree.
36:57In fact, as of now,
36:59parliament hasn't been
36:59prorogued from the last
37:01session.
37:02So there's nothing
37:03stopping government of
37:04India from calling for
37:05a three-day, five-day
37:06session to discuss this
37:08issue.
37:09It's no less important
37:10than your nuclear treaties
37:11or your BRIC summit or
37:13whatever.
37:13We are more than, we
37:15are 50% of this
37:16population and as
37:17empowered by the
37:19constitution as every
37:20man in this country.
37:21Why is it that we are
37:22being treated like this?
37:24Why is it that our
37:25safety is not a concern,
37:27a national concern?
37:29That we keep brushing it
37:30under the carpet.
37:31You want our votes, but
37:32you don't want to talk
37:33about what's bothering
37:34us.
37:35Of course, we should
37:36take it up.
37:37I have given enough
37:38notices.
37:39I'll take out my entire
37:40parliament history where
37:41I'll show you.
37:42I was the one who
37:43brought in the laws as
37:44woman and child
37:44minister when I said
37:45domestic violence also
37:47has to be reported.
37:48Fair point.
37:49The headway I made and
37:50the threats I got at
37:52that time was not
37:52funny.
37:53And believe me, each
37:55one of us as women who
37:56have reached where we
37:58have, have been
37:59mauled, have been
38:01assaulted, have been
38:02abused.
38:03We've gone through that
38:04fire and we've reached
38:06where we have.
38:07And it is our
38:08business that we
38:09turn around and reach
38:10and hold hands of
38:11other women and
38:13ensure that the
38:14pathway to girls in
38:15this country is safe.
38:16You know, Ms. Chowdhury,
38:16thank you for saying
38:17that.
38:17And can I just like to
38:18say this on national
38:20television, you know,
38:21for what you've said,
38:23thank you for saying
38:24that.
38:24But importantly, thank
38:25you for being a
38:26current member of
38:27parliament and agreeing
38:28to sit on a panel with
38:29the president of Lady
38:30Sriram College because
38:31usually we have MPs who
38:33say we will only do
38:34one-on-ones.
38:34You know, and that's
38:35where it just doesn't
38:37matter because then
38:37it's never a conversation,
38:38it's always a monologue.
38:39But thank you, you
38:40know, for doing that.
38:41But Ms. Kumara
38:41Mangalam, I want to
38:42bring you in because I
38:43think now it's up to
38:44the parliament as well.
38:46There is so much in
38:46focus where we talk
38:47about bringing a
38:48special session, but I
38:50think this is as
38:50urgent as anything else
38:52in this country, ma'am.
38:54Yes, it is about time
38:56that parliament sat up
38:57and took a much, much,
38:59much greater notice and
39:01interest in this.
39:02And again, I'm not in
39:03parliament, but I'd like
39:04to request all the
39:05women parliamentarians
39:07especially who need to
39:08sit down and make a lot
39:10of noise together.
39:11Parliament will not have
39:13a choice but to respond.
39:15Take it to the PM, take
39:16it to the Home Minister,
39:17take it to whomever you
39:18want to take it to,
39:20leader of the opposition,
39:21who you feel will, you
39:23know, pay enough
39:24attention.
39:24But the problem also is
39:26that even in parliament,
39:27hierarchy exists.
39:28And often that defeats
39:30the good intentions of,
39:32you know, people who have
39:32the best intentions.
39:34And I'd like, you know,
39:36I'd like to make an appeal
39:37to all the male
39:37parliamentarians also,
39:38regardless of what posts
39:40they may be in or not,
39:42that for God's sake,
39:43every one of you have
39:44women in your families.
39:46Sisters, fiancés, wives,
39:47mothers, grandmothers,
39:49friends, colleagues, etc.
39:51Put us first for months
39:52and sit together.
39:54Like I keep saying,
39:55coordination.
39:56Unless in this,
39:57even the men are drafted,
39:59nothing much is going to
40:00change even after
40:01another 50 years.
40:02So in parliament,
40:04if this could be done,
40:05I mean, please,
40:06it's a personal request
40:07across the board,
40:08it doesn't matter.
40:10If this could be done,
40:12somebody needs to
40:13take it up and do it.
40:14I think all of us,
40:15the rest of us,
40:16should also come together
40:17to, you know,
40:18get some 50,000 signatures
40:20or whatever we think
40:21and move.
40:22I agree, ma'am.
40:23And we're going to see
40:24that it's picked up.
40:26You know,
40:27we're going to,
40:28we're going to follow this.
40:29Very quickly,
40:30Ms. Choudhury,
40:30I need to get into a break.
40:31Vicky, I have a suggestion.
40:32I have a suggestion.
40:37Yeah, yeah, Ms. Choudhury,
40:38make your point,
40:39your suggestion very quickly.
40:43No, I was saying
40:44that I have a suggestion.
40:45I think women police
40:48should be in civil clothes
40:49and hang around
40:50all the vulnerable areas.
40:51There should be
40:52a backup plan behind them.
40:54That's a good point.
40:55A supporting group.
40:55And the minute
40:56a man misbehaves,
40:57pick him up
40:59and put his photograph
41:00in the papers.
41:01Name them
41:02and shame them.
41:03Name them
41:04and shame them.
41:04We protect the identity
41:05of the victim.
41:07Please expose.
41:08Last one thing.
41:09Yeah, Yogita,
41:10come in quickly.
41:10I have one leg signature
41:12on this particular campaign.
41:14I have one leg signature.
41:15On the same campaign
41:16on women in CVs?
41:19All right.
41:19Okay, that's a good one.
41:20We're going to try,
41:21we're going to take
41:22this conversation
41:22further in India today,
41:23I promise.
41:24I thank all three of you.
41:26I thank all three of you
41:27for joining us
41:28and young Anusha,
41:29thank you for being brave
41:31and saying I will come
41:32and I will speak
41:33on national television.
41:34Thank you there.
41:35I want to focus now
41:36to the Jammui case.
41:38Two key accused
41:39in the Jammui horror
41:40have now been shot
41:41in the leg
41:41in a police encounter
41:42and arrested.
41:43This comes a day after
41:45the shocking video
41:46of a minor girl
41:46and a boy being surrounded,
41:48assaulted, sexually assaulted
41:49and hounded
41:50by a group of men
41:52triggered outrage.
41:54Three other accused
41:55had already been arrested
41:56but as cops' action
41:58gathers pace,
41:59a political controversy
42:00also grows,
42:01understandably,
42:02like it always does
42:02on the sidelines.
42:12A video that shocked
42:14the nation.
42:18A minor girl and boy
42:20surrounded by men
42:21groped, molested,
42:22assaulted
42:23and hounded in Bihar.
42:29And now police action.
42:35The main accused,
42:36Nandan Yadav
42:37and another accused,
42:38Hari Ram,
42:38were shot in the leg
42:39during a police encounter.
42:43Three accused
42:43were arrested earlier.
42:47But the question
42:48goes beyond arrests.
42:49Last year
42:50at India Today conclave,
42:51Samrat Chaudi
42:52said that he would resign
42:53if crime happened
42:54on his watch.
43:22Today, he is chief minister.
43:24But when the crime
43:25did occur,
43:26instead of just outrage,
43:27what came was
43:27the language
43:28of minimization.
43:36And it didn't end there.
43:38Bihar minister
43:39Shravan Kumar
43:40dismissed it
43:40as a sporadic incident
43:41and then made
43:42a U-turn
43:43after the outrage.
44:13Bihar
44:24Opposition parties have now seized on the statements, questioning the government's law and order record and demanding accountability.
44:48Today in Bihar, this video shows that there are no children or children in Bihar are not in Bihar.
45:17For a girl subjected to this horror, the message from politics should have been simple.
45:22No excuses, minimisation or justification.
45:25But instead of standing with her, she got dismissive words from those in power.
45:30Leading to one haunting question, who will keep our daughters safe?
45:35We have a report, India Today.
45:43We are over to in Tamil Nadu, a story that has shocked and we've been reporting on it,
45:50where a child abuse case in the state has now sparked questions over alleged abuse,
45:56a 70 crore money trail and a possible cover-up and now the co-accused has broken her silence.
46:02Take a look.
46:03Since I was doing around 13 years old, I was not lecturing at the 4C's bad intention.
46:11I was unknowingly becoming a victim of this vicious sexual advances.
46:22The Tamil Nadu equivalent of Epstein files involving granite businessman Veeramani is widening.
46:33India Today has accessed a video of co-accused Shanti,
46:36who makes a stunning allegation that Veeramani made sexual advances towards her when she was a minor.
46:44She claims he would visit her home when she was a child, make promises and made sexual advances.
46:51She added that now she fears for her life.
46:55I have been known to Mr. Veeramani from my childhood as a close family friend.
46:59He used to visit my house in the pretext of helping us on business fronts.
47:04Since I was 2-ing, around 13 years old, I was not matured enough to foresee his bad intention.
47:11I was unknowingly becoming a victim of this vicious sexual advances.
47:19He started acting like a godfather to me and used me for his personal benefits.
47:25The police alleged that Shanti managed a house used for sexual assaults and allegedly procured minors for Veeramani.
47:35She was arrested along with Veeramani on August 29.
47:39Other villains of Tamil Nadu's sex scandal have also been unmasked.
47:44Mahendra Simhan, reportedly a close aide of Veeramani,
47:47has been arrested over allegations that he facilitated the crimes alongside the alleged kingpin.
47:54Another aide of Veeramani, Ganeshan, has also been arrested by the police.
47:59Ganeshan was arrested for allegedly possessing a video on his mobile
48:03that showed Veeramani sexually abusing a girl and for failing to report it to the police.
48:10And now, investigators are tracking an alleged 70 crore rupees financial trail.
48:17They are examining transactions and possible police links.
48:20The big question, was money used to influence the investigation or attempt a cover-up?
48:27Reacting to allegations of inaction during DMK regime,
48:31former law minister Raghupati tells India today that there was no evidence to proceed earlier
48:36and denies shielding Veeramani.
48:40He says a case has been filed as far back as 2013.
48:45The FBI has filed on October 7.
48:48Only the shadow has been seen.
48:50So, they have not got any clear evidence.
48:54So, they have not proceeded further.
48:57But at the same time, we will get the time from the court
49:01that whenever you get the strong evidence against Veeramani, you will proceed.
49:07The case has now exploded into a political fight.
49:11TVK has questioned CPIM's stand and alleged that the case was nearly buried under the previous regime.
49:33The CPIM rejects any party involvement and calls the remarks surprising.
49:38It wants a thorough probe into everyone involved.
50:09The questions are now impossible.
50:13Who knew?
50:15Who helped?
50:18Where did the money go?
50:20And was there any attempt to bury the case?
50:24With Pramod Madhavind Charnay, Bureau Report, India Today.
