00:10I just want to say, I want to thank the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister,
00:14Greenland, Denmark, and we're going to have a tremendous relationship, a secure relationship,
00:21and we look forward to it. We'll be working very hard and very much in conjunction with each other.
00:26And it's just a real honor to be here. This was long in the making.
00:31You know, you could go back many, many decades, probably centuries,
00:38but you go back, way back in the line of Presidents, and almost every President at least mentioned it,
00:45but most of them just mentioned it. Some really wanted to make a deal.
00:49And it never got done, but we're getting it done.
00:54And I am very proud to say that in the Kingdom of Denmark, the United States has a friend
01:00that has always kept our word, an ally you have always been able to rely on.
01:07And this day represents a milestone in our long-standing cooperation.
01:1475 years ago we entered into an agreement about the defense of Greenland.
01:20Today we are signing an even bigger and better agreement, a deal that can last forever.
01:27This deal is good for the United States, it's good for Greenland, for Denmark, for the NATO Alliance,
01:35and therefore also good for Europe. In other words, we are strengthening our common security,
01:44boosting our common deterrence, showing our adversaries who we are, and we are doing it together.
01:54Mr. President, you have been very clear. You don't want adversaries to come too close. I fully agree.
02:05And with this deal, they are not. We are making sure that they will not be allowed to get any
02:13control,
02:13or significant influence in Greenland. And we are making sure that more allies are present in the Arctic at the
02:22same time.
02:23Our agreement today underlines the importance of the NATO Alliance, and we welcome engagement and involvement in Greenland
02:32from partners and allies even more. This agreement also recognizes the United States defining historical and ongoing contributions
02:46to the security and defense of Greenland and the rest of the North Atlantic Treaty area.
02:53Including, by the way, the sacrifices and billions of dollars spent, and the role that United States military plays in
03:03the defense when it comes to Greenland,
03:06now and also in the future. And at the same time, the agreement, of course, respects the serenity and the
03:15territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark,
03:18as well as Greenland's right to self-determination.
03:24I agree when you, Mr. President, have asked allies to pay our part of the burden. In fact, I think
03:30it's only fair.
03:32The Kingdom of Denmark has done exactly that. And with those few words, I just wanted to thank you for
03:41this agreement.
03:43It's good for the U.S., it's good for Greenland, and it's good for Denmark. Thanks a lot.
03:52We are signing an agreement that brings the 1951 Defense Agreement into 2026.
03:58With this, we build on 85 years of security cooperation, during which we have welcomed the U.S. military in
04:06our country.
04:09And for Greenland, this is not only an agreement about us. It is an agreement with us.
04:17It takes into account the people of Greenland, our rights, our livelihoods, and the development of our country.
04:27This has been a key priority for us throughout this process, and a welcomed outcome of what we sign here
04:35today.
04:37The security landscape in the Arctic is changing, and we recognize the long-term security threats that you, Mr. President,
04:45have rightly spoken about.
04:49And NATO matters. We believe that it's vital to keep NATO strong, also in the Arctic, where the Alliance has
04:56a key role to play.
04:59This agreement should put to rest any doubt today and in the future about where Greenland's loyalty lies.
05:07Our commitment to this Alliance, and to the security we build together, is not in question.
05:14We are, have been, and will remain a steadfast friend of the United States and a part of the Western
05:23Alliance.
05:25Your security is our security, and our security is your security.
05:30We are, have been, and we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we
05:38are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we
05:38are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we
05:38are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we
05:39are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we
05:40are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we
