In Switzerland, dozens of alpacas descend from mountain pastures to valleys
In the Kiental valley in Switzerland, a rather unusual end of summer mountain descent is taking place. Instead of the traditional Swiss cows, around 70 alpacas are making their way down to the valley, after spending the summer in the pastures of the Bernese Alps. The Luginbuhl family started breeding llamas and alpacas 30 years ago. "We sell breeding stock, and we also shear them to sell their wool," says alpaca and llama breeder, Arnold Luginbuhl. "There are also animals that we remove from the herd for fattening."
