00:00Ed Sheeran? What in the devil are you doing here?
00:03I couldn't help but overhear your conversation. You see, I was just outside sitting on the fence.
00:08SNL UK viciously roasted Ed Sheeran over the fallout from the Malcolm Moore Free Palestine
00:14controversy. Saturday Night Live's counterpart across the pond didn't hold back, slamming
00:19Sheeran and his fans during Weekend Update 2.
00:24Genuinely though, this crisis is the worst thing that has happened to Ed Sheeran fans
00:28since their head injury. To his credit, Sheeran, seen here, looking at both sides of the issue.
00:35The tweets were just as brutal. One ex-user wrote,
00:39They're beating Ed Sheeran's ass on SNL UK right now. The episode aired Saturday,
00:45September 19th in London, five hours ahead of US Eastern Time. Little did they know that same
00:52night in Philadelphia, Sheeran would take the stage and address the issue head on.
00:56I am making mistakes and I'm so, so sorry. But this is a humanitarian issue and I cannot
01:05buy how I feel about it anymore. What happened in Israel and at the known music festival on
01:11October 7th was horrific and compounded centuries of Jewish pain. What is happening in Gaza is
01:18catastrophic and unjustifiable and disproportionate. My heart has been broken by the scale of devastation
01:25and loss of civilians' lives, of children's lives. While many applauded Sheeran's speech,
01:33others called out his use of teleprompter, including Zahra Sultana, a left-wing member of the British
01:39Parliament, who called him a coward and said, Spare us the crocodile tears. Later, during the show at
01:45Lincoln Financial Field in Philly, Sheeran broke down in tears and sat cross-legged on stage.
01:51He said,
02:14Notably, his cousin Jethro Sheeran publicly blasted him online. He wrote,
02:19Finally it's all coming out. I'm ashamed of my cousin Ed. He's done. Finally the world and all
02:26his fans see through him. He's not a good person. I don't like his music, so I can't say he's
02:31even
02:31a good artist. He's honestly a selfish individual with malicious, cunning ways.
02:37The fallout began on September 14th when Macklemore claimed that Sheeran was pressured into dropping him
02:42from the Loop Tour by stadium owners, including billionaire Robert Kraft, who owns the New
02:48England Patriots. Sheeran's next tour dates are September 25th and 26th at Kraft's Gillette Stadium.
