00:08from the Department of State Growth as it's transformed into building Tasmania, government
00:13workers have been on edge.

00:16A briefing yesterday hasn't reassured them.
00:19There are still more questions than answers.
00:21There have already been 111 applications for voluntary redundancy.
00:26Yesterday, the government revealed it's identified roughly 150 more jobs to be abolished in building
00:33Tasmania and the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
00:36They need to understand what is the government's plan, what are their commitments to them and
00:41what are the next steps and they have none of that.
00:43They're being marched into meetings, they're being read script and they're going home in
00:48tears.
00:48The full restructure plan for building Tasmania will be revealed tomorrow.
00:53Treasurer Erica Betts says staff in nominated positions will be offered redeployment or
00:59a voluntary redundancy.
01:00Does that mean that a worker in building Tasmania who does not take a voluntary redundancy but
01:05is in a position that will be abolished has a job?
01:08Because they need to know that.
01:10Erica Betts has refused to rule out forced redundancies and yesterday we saw the first steps towards
01:16what looks like a process for exactly that to happen.
01:20The government didn't face the cameras today.
01:23In a statement a spokesperson did not rule out forced redundancies but said they're not
01:27the government's intention.
01:29Treasurer Erica Betts says the state service needs to be reduced to ensure the state lives
01:34within its means.
01:35We can't complain about the state budget unsustainability and on the other hand oppose cost saving measures.
