A demonstration carried out in Scotland integrated a U.S. heavyweight torpedo with the Royal Navy’s XV Excalibur and represents another step in AUKUS plans to develop undersea systems capable of sharing equipment among allied countries.
The United States and the United Kingdom tested the launch of a Mk 48 heavyweight torpedo from the XV Excalibur, an experimental uncrewed underwater vehicle operated by the Royal Navy.
The demonstration took place on September 13, 2026, at the British Underwater Test & Evaluation Centre (BUTEC) in Scotland, with the main goal of determining whether U.S. equipment could be integrated into a British autonomous platform.
