Tropical Storm Surigae entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, and was assigned the local name “Queenie,” according to PAGASA.
Meanwhile, PAGASA warned that the Philippines could face worsening dry conditions in the coming months as a strong El Niño is expected to intensify into a very strong event between September and December.
The phenomenon is expected to persist through the first half of 2027, raising the risk of prolonged below-normal rainfall, dry spells, and drought, particularly during the dry season next year.
