A major power disruption hit Puerto Rico late on September 23 after an explosion at a substation in Carolina triggered widespread outages across San Juan and Carolina. Up to 226,000 customers were initially affected as generation shortages and transmission failures caused power plants to trip offline. Firefighters responded quickly, while LUMA Energy crews rerouted electricity, reducing the outage count to around 94,000 by midnight. No injuries were reported as restoration efforts continued.
