00:07team in the city is 0-2 right this moment and we're you know in talking about some of the

00:12that have been wrong and some of the things that are poor we've gone a lot of different places but
00:15is it possible john lopez the domico ryan's the head coach of this team yesterday in his uh in
00:20his availability that you heard here on the program gave us an answer to what the real problem is
00:25yeah man uh you know this is something that was live on our air yesterday i went back uh i
00:30saw the
00:30the cuts that we received and i was kind of going through them and there's there's like a thread
00:36of a theme there's a there's a theme that's sort of threaded through some of his answers at least in
00:41my opinion and i'm curious on y'all's opinion it kept kind of going back to we're not doing what
00:48we're coached uh we're not connected which kind of speaks to coaching player you know he said that at
00:54least two times maybe more and that's not that's not a new dynamic from domico at times to kind of
00:58almost give an air of we know what's going to work we know what's right it's incumbent upon the players
01:04like this falls on the player level to get things to do the things that we tell them to do
01:08in the
01:08way that we tell them yes 100 and and it just seems like he was giving us little like giving
01:13us an
01:13answer as as we put you know you just put it put it there to the real problem without necessarily
01:19pointing the finger at coaches i you know he kept kind of pointing to coaches and coaching and
01:24connected and then and then when when he was asked about his confidence in the offense uh he only gave
01:31credit to the bengals you know first of all you got to give the bengals a lot of credit their
01:35d line
01:35etc but he didn't answer about the confidence he has in this offense and i i just think is is
01:41he
01:41if not starting to waver at least sort of trying to avoid the discussion of maybe some issues with
01:48the coaching staff and then the coaching oh that's interesting i i i didn't really take it
01:53that way and very much when i started hearing uh because domico it felt like uh in his presser
01:59yesterday he started trying to kind of tamper taper back on that that dynamic we were just talking
02:05about of it's on the players to get it right then he kind of had more in postgame yesterday it
02:09felt
02:09like he was trying to and it starts with the coaching and we got to make sure that we do
02:12what
02:12we're that or is he just protecting that almost players that almost felt more like yeah i'm trying
02:16to protect the players and make sure that i am i'm spreading the blame more evenly than it felt
02:21like i was early on but it's possible that maybe he's looking and looking at some of the coaches
02:25because looking at the the way that this game unfurled and maybe the the the takeaways you could
02:30have on what the game plan was there was enough places where you go i don't know if that was
02:34right
02:34i don't know if you put the guys in the right position to succeed one of the one of my
02:38uh one of my
02:39big ones that i talked about was having all these these players that you have why receiver wise
02:44and not doing the things that they do best like you know not having as many opportunities to have
02:50kashaun booty go deep uh and throw the ball up to him and where you end up throwing the ball
02:54deep
02:54to jared wayne or throwing the ball deep to xavier hutchinson like i literally yesterday as you know
02:59i'm a dork sometimes in thinking and just in a way to kind of conceptualize what's happening here i
03:04started indexing all the receiving core of the texans and what individuals do well and what they don't do
03:09well and it felt like way too often i was looking at a player and i go this is what
03:13they do well this is what
03:13they don't do well and what i saw them trying to do in this game was what they don't do
03:18well as
03:18opposed to what they do what does that point to i would say game planning and coaching yeah
03:23and any any reference that uh i think we you know we have some of the audio here uh uh
03:29which one did
03:30you want to go to uh this is uh domico cut 12 here uh fig if you don't mind yeah
03:35on the fourth down
03:36play our center has to stay we're double teaming dexter lawrence our center has to stay on dexter
03:40lawrence the uh that block is not just on rutledge himself there's not a single block right we know
03:46we're playing one of the best de-tackles in the league we got to stay on him four hands on
03:50him
03:50like i mentioned earlier in the week that didn't change we got to double team that guy if you expect
03:55to get a yard we did not do that therefore we did not convert the fourth and one all right
04:01put it on me
04:02as the cause kick it whatever but we got to make sure we executed the right way when we do
04:07call
04:07you know any call not just a short yardage call but that's any call for me we had a lot
04:12of
04:13opportunities to make some plays not only four for one some third down opportunities that we had in the
04:18game that we could have prolonged drives been in a better position to score a third down defensively
04:25we gave a couple explosives where we could play better we can execute it better so you know we can
04:31pinpoint the one fourth down play but to me it's many more plays in the game where we could
04:36coach it better we can play it better and to be fair here i don't think he's wrong on this
04:41play
04:41in particular like this is evan brown going up to the second level and we talked about it yesterday
04:44i was like what are they doing with a reach block there well it wasn't supposed to be a reach
04:47block
04:47right and this is one where you're supposed to double team and evan brown has to know in this
04:51situation when we're trying to get a few yards that linebacker doesn't matter as much as making
04:55sure that we move sexy dexter lawrence the best player on this defense off of his spot to some
05:00degree to allow that to happen that but i don't think that that's the only thing and
05:04domico is speaking to all these other places and i think that there's more instances where
05:08where there's some opportunities to make plays i will say in watching back at least the first half
05:13of this game in detail i still need to watch the second half in in the amount of detail that
05:16i would
05:17want to watch it in there i i found myself sliding a little bit away from this because i do
05:22think that
05:22it sounded a lot like hey man the players need to be better and the coaches are absolved i think
05:26there's still some things the coaches need to be better at but there's a lot more of these
05:29situations where plays are there to be made like this one that he describes like a like
05:33uh you know kashaun booty kind of or was it xavier hudson one of them kind of rounding out their
05:39route instead of moving to the space where cj stride was clearly throwing the football right
05:42there's a lot of there's a lot more instances than i then i think we feel comfortable with
05:46where the players do need to make a play or be more heady or just deliver a better performance
05:51that with the circumstance that's actually in front of well and here's here's the other thing
05:54when i say that to me some of this just seems like he's really starting to
05:58to point more at the coaches um and maybe he's just protecting players and maybe it's
06:04much ado about nothing but i think i think it it really does say uh something about just the
06:10confidence level you know maybe maybe he's confident the coaches can get it done but
06:15they didn't get it done and and that's starting to waver a little bit but uh some of some of
06:21the
06:21things that that he was saying cut 15 here i think is is a great illustration of what i'm talking
06:26about
06:26yeah cut 15 this is demiko ryan's talking about coaching accountability specifically
06:30as i review things it always starts first with us as coaches like what are we asking right our
06:36players to do are they understanding what we're asking them to do and if they are are they not
06:42why is it not showing up on film right so it always starts okay can i can i say it
06:47better can we
06:47practice it a few more times can i give him a few more looks to make sure he truly understands
06:53it so it
06:54starts from a coaching perspective and making sure we're exhausting all avenues to make sure
07:00we know exactly what we want and make sure the player understands exactly what we're saying
07:05whether it was uh you know a lack of confidence or whether it's something that's going to splinter
07:10into something more i don't know nobody knows but i can guarantee you it's going to be an
07:14interesting week in those coaches meetings because because he's clearly putting it on the coaches
07:19you know some one some fashion or another he's doing that yeah and i mean that's where it should
07:24be man yeah you ultimately i don't know that i'd say it's he's clearly putting on the coaches but i
07:28appreciate one for sure i appreciate that there's there's more but even still it's like uh i'm putting
07:33on the coaches because those dudes did not do their job so it's still kind of a all right we
07:37need to do
07:37more to get them in the right place and honestly maybe that's true but he's he's right like they need
07:42to
07:42do more and it's it's in both circumstances because i think defense i don't want to let them off the
07:47hook
07:48there and i i think that they were they were actually a lot more kind of average and honestly
07:52just generally more successful than week one honestly in early downs this game felt like it
07:57was so much about third downs yes there was so much about third downs and honestly it's not like the
08:01bangles were that great at third downs but they were making those big plays that ultimately you know
08:06really killed the game and those explosives and i think when with this team explosives is not just
08:11about these first two weeks this is something they've talked about for a long time and so i think that
08:15that's the needling for domico ryan's when he starts talking about with his coaches is hey this
08:20is a thing that we were supposed to be kind of calling and getting getting together for a long
08:24time and it's gotten worse rather than getting better i do think it does put uh not to harp on
08:30this but
08:30it does put nick casario in a really interesting spot because if it is the players who got the players
08:36you know that would be nick casario if it is the coaches who brought in these offensive coaches
08:44like like like it kind of puts nick casario in the crosshairs and we talked about it yesterday we
08:48don't need to harp on it but uh you know like like if this is a coaching problem and a
08:52lack of
08:53confidence in the coaching and i'm not saying it is but if it becomes one that's those are nick
08:57casario's guys if it is personnel and the personnel is a problem and they can't get good coaching
09:03you know they can't accept it they can't implement it that's also on casario and well i mean
09:09the box the buck stops at the top right no it does honestly we're parsing out something where
09:14at least in this game it was all of it right it was all of it you could talk about
09:19the players
09:19themselves not making plays in big moments and that shows up in a lot of different ways you could
09:24talk about the coaches not putting them in the right place and not not you know getting the best
09:27out of them because i think that's where you get some of the discipline issues of the penalties that
09:31were really really high um you can get some of the you can get some of the game plan things
09:34that
09:35we've talked about and all of those things show up and then just the way that they built
09:38the roster and the way that they you know at least built the active roster for this game
09:42did not make sense ultimately the way that they carried it out there's multiple there's a lot of
09:46levels is why we came in and said this was an organizational loss to the bangles and that means
09:50there's a lot of different places that you can hit that you need to get better but uh it's fixable
09:54yeah no well we'll see we'll see about that that's a tease that's what i've heard that's a tease
