00:00Hello, and welcome to the developer preview of Retro Space.
00:06Retro Space is an immersive disco-punk space horror,
00:10where you play as a simple janitor trying to survive on a space station
00:14that has been swallowed by a sentient black hole.
00:21When you arrive at a new location, you're usually greeted by a sense of calm.
00:26The calm before the storm, so to speak.
00:30It's worth taking a good look around, assessing the area,
00:34and paying attention to the world-building details.
00:38A poster here, a dead body there, audio logs, written notes,
00:43or just the layout of the level itself,
00:45all can hold crucial clues about what happened or what to do next.
00:50So make the most of these peaceful moments, because they usually don't last long.
01:05Although it's possible to avoid all combat in the game,
01:08we'll likely end up getting into a fight sooner or later.
01:19There are ten different weapons in the game,
01:21and eight of them can be upgraded multiple times.
01:24Our weapons are very different, and almost all of them have special abilities.
01:28Take, for example, the pistol, which seems weak at first glance,
01:32but whose bullets can bounce off walls, making it a really effective strategic weapon.
01:38Or here's the Bradbury beam gun, which not only sets enemies on fire,
01:42but can also be upgraded to become a ray gun.
01:49If combat isn't our thing, the game also offers plenty of room for stealth.
01:55We need to pay attention to how much noise we make, as well as to the lights around us.
02:00We can turn off or shoot out light sources, creating comfy dark spots to hide in.
02:08If you choose a mix of stealth and combat, that's a perfectly valid tactic as well.
02:13Just be careful, because enemies can sometimes spring surprises on you.
02:23Making use of the environment will be an important tool in our arsenal.
02:28Electrical boxes, steam pipes, explosive barrels, barricades, and even unstable energy cells
02:36will all help us take on our enemies in a way that conserves health and ammunition.
02:44Sometimes, however, even that doesn't help.
02:47In those cases, running is the best option.
02:55If we've completely ran out of ideas, the game offers us 10 mutations and just as many tech gadgets.
03:17We can use all of these in all sorts of combinations, but there's a limit to how many we can
03:22have at once.
03:23There's a limit to how many we can have at once, so it's worth strategizing with them, and figuring out
03:26the best combos.
03:36No matter how good we are at the game, we will probably all bite the dust eventually.
03:41But don't panic, the Helodome chambers will clone us for free.
03:45Unfortunately, cloning is never perfect, so be prepared for various cloning errors.
03:59We can fix these either by paying in the Helodome chamber, or by finding our corpse and extracting its genes.
04:13One of the game's most important elements, however, is the sense of discovery.
04:18The game features a wealth of vast and complex locations filled with secret paths, shortcuts, and ventilation shafts.
04:27It's worth exploring them thoroughly, as there are plenty of hidden extras waiting to be discovered,
04:33such as upgrade blueprints and collectible pinup cards.
04:42But to explore, we also have to travel, and the Aurora 5 is truly gigantic.
04:48So we built a real train that circles the station, allowing us to quickly reach even the farthest of places.
05:09For those who still find that too slow, well, once we discover the special janitor room at every location,
05:16we can use them to fast travel.
05:18We can do this through our own base, which is called the Janitor's Haven.
05:25This is an island of peace and tranquility, our base and safe haven, which will continuously evolve and expand throughout
05:33the story.
05:47In Retrospace, we'll encounter NPCs who, if we help them, will join us at the base, and each contribute something
05:55to it.
05:55A new workbench, a new workbench, a shooting range, or a laboratory.
06:00By the end of the game, we'll hardly recognize the place.
06:03Welcome home, cowboy!
06:09Retrospace is a story-driven game, so it has a strong narrative, yet it's also highly open-ended and freeform
06:16horror FPS.
06:18Exploration and experimentation are key, which is why the game continuously provides you with a steady stream of new tools
06:25and methods that, when combined, allow you to mold the game to your own taste.
07:01We'll see you next time.
