00:00A federal judge has ordered the White House to immediately restore access to CNN, MSNOW and
00:05Politico just days after President Trump banned all three from the White House. And this ruling
00:11came down just before one o'clock this morning. U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly, a Trump appointee,
00:17says the White House did not give the journalists due process required before taking away their
00:22press credentials. The order means reporters from all three outlets can return to the White House,
00:27at least for now. Kelly's temporary order lasts 14 days while the larger case continues.
00:34And Kelly also took direct aim at one of the White House's main arguments for the ban.
00:38The administration says the outlets published reporting that raised national security concerns,
00:43but Kelly says the record doesn't back that up. Quote, nothing in the record that predates this
00:49suit suggests that the revocation of plaintiffs' hard passes was motivated by national security
00:55concerns. Kelly pointed out that when Trump first announced the ban, he didn't cite national
01:01security. He complained about what he called the outlet's untruthful and negative reporting.
01:06The ban had also disrupted the White House TV pool. After CNN was blocked from its scheduled pool duties,
01:13ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC joined CNN in suspending coverage. The three outlets argued Trump punished
01:21them for coverage he didn't like. In their filing, the Justice Department said the president has the
01:26authority to restrict access and pointed to national security concerns. Kelly sided with the outlets for
01:32now saying they're likely to succeed on their due process claim.
