00:28are going, yeah, no, we need to nip this thing in the bud here, and Vladdy's saying it doesn't

00:40That's a very dangerous attitude to have with a CBA right around the corner because I'll
00:45promise you this, the NFL will never have this issue here, Craig, ever.

02:06Albert Pujols was, I mean, Albert Pujols, one of the greatest players we've seen in the
02:10history of the game, and maybe the single greatest player, was kicked around three teams
02:14before he finished back up with St. Louis again at the end of his career.

02:20Clayton Kershaw was a bit player during last year's Dodgers season.
02:25These contracts, Joe, they never look good at the end.
02:28And the problem is, with baseball, is that the salaries are so far out of control that
02:35you have players that even are going into year two of an extension, or year three, and
02:41then they don't look good.
02:42And that really, to me, is more of the bigger problem.
02:45Like, I hate to use Willie Adamas as an example, but, you know, the Giants have had such a hard
02:50time signing players.
02:51They're forced into a position in the market that they're in to drop, you know, a $250
02:57million payroll and give a player like Willie Adamas, who was a really good player in Milwaukee,
03:03way too much money.
03:04And Adamas is just not that good, you know?
03:07Like, he's okay.
03:08You know, he's a decent player.
03:09And now they owe him a lot of money.
03:11Look at the guy that plays third base for the Giants, Matt Chapman.
03:14He's due $25 million for the next four or five years, Joe.
03:18And he couldn't even get through this year.
03:19But these are just examples all across the board that what Guerrero is saying is true.
03:26But it's only partially true, because I do think that what he is saying is, yes, you're
03:31getting paid on past performance.
03:32But, Joe, the other thing that I would say is that, unlike the other sports, you're getting
03:37paid on being opportunistic, meaning that the closer you get to free agency and when you
03:43are a free agent, automatically puts you in a much better spot.
03:46And so I think there's going to be a lot of internal debate in the CBA where the owners,
03:52I believe, are saying, hey, look, if we have the cap, what we'll do is you don't have to
03:58wait six years to be a free agent anymore.

04:01And now all of a sudden, the players probably look at this like, whoa, wait a second.
04:05The young guys, right?
04:06Like, wait a second here.
04:07If I sign this deal, you mean to tell me that I could be a free agent in 2030 as

04:13It's life-changing money for every single one of these guys.
04:15So there's give and take with all of it, but your point is fine.
04:22I am not going to crush Guerrero because he's only saying honestly what is true, but unfortunately

04:34be saying honestly with respect to him is my past performance shouldn't dictate one bad
