00:00Muy bien, gracias. Vamos a empezar con Rob.
00:02Hey, Howie, great to see you.
00:03And you.
00:04You well?
00:04I'm all good, thank you, yeah.
00:06Good man.
00:07Look, before we get into this massive game, I want to ask you about the Ballon d'Or.
00:12I'm sorry to throw it to you at you and ask the manager at the very centre of it, but
00:16look, in all the time I've known you, statistics, records, your own goals have been something
00:22that's driven you and you've measured your own self-biot to try and improve all the time.
00:26And it feels a little bit like now, this is your best chance, if you see what I mean,
00:33and the closest you will ever come to winning the Ballon d'Or.
00:36Is that how you see it?
00:37Best chance right now, yeah.
00:39Whether that's in the future as well, we'll have to wait and see.
00:42But yeah, I think, yeah, so far in my career is the best chance, without a doubt.
00:46I think I spoke quite openly last season from a personal point of view, it was my best year,
00:50without a doubt, but also from a team point of view was my best year in terms of trophies
00:55and performances.
00:58So yeah, look, it's something that would be obviously amazing to win.
01:02I know there's been a lot of talk about it and I'm sure there will be over the next month
01:05until it's announced and that's part and parcel of it.
01:09So yeah, I'd be extremely proud to win it.
01:11I think, yeah, I've done a lot of great things that I'm proud of last year for sure.
01:17But like I keep saying, ultimately it's down to other people now and their opinion on players
01:22and their opinion on last season.
01:24So we'll have to wait and see what happens.
01:26I know it won't be the last time I talk about it, but yeah, it's still another month or so
01:31to go.
01:31My focus is on trying to help this team get a good win tomorrow night.
01:36It's tricky to say.
01:37Do you think you should win it, Harry?
01:38So I avoid that, but thank you.
01:40That was a good answer, mate.
01:41Thank you.
01:41Look, first time we've seen you since the World Cup and you've had a bit of time to reflect.
01:45So many positives from that tournament and obviously the crushing disappointment of the semi-final itself.
01:50But Anthony Gordon told us something really interesting yesterday.
01:52He agrees with Thomas Tuchel that England should play to their strengths
01:55and maybe we can't keep the ball like Spain do.
01:59We should perhaps be a bit more direct, a bit more physical, a bit more pacey.
02:03So it's led to a big debate from us and the supporters, as I'm sure you can imagine,
02:07because we see you individually playing all of that style of football with your clubs very often.
02:11What do you think?
02:13You know, I totally get what he's saying.
02:15I think the way Spain plays is a culture for them.
02:19It's something they've grown up from five, six, seven years old,
02:22playing a certain style, playing a certain way all the way up until they're professionals.
02:27In England, it's not so much like that.
02:30It doesn't mean that we can't keep the ball or we can't play under pressure
02:33or we still have amazing technical players who can do a load of those things.
02:37But also we have a lot of strengths that they don't have.
02:40And that is our physicality, our pace, our power.
02:44I spoke a little bit before the World Cup and everyone was talking about how hard it's going to be
02:48physically for England.
02:49But I said I think that's one of our biggest strengths, actually, the way we press and the way we're
02:54able to go again
02:55and win jewels and a lot of Premier League style football in a way.
02:59So, yeah, tomorrow I think you'll see that version of us.
03:03I think when we're at our best, we combine the both.
03:06We're not just a team that will play like Spain, for example.
03:10They play amazingly in what they do.
03:12But I think we have a lot of strengths that we can showcase tomorrow night, being direct, runs in behind.
03:19Things like set pieces, which are important in today's game as well.
03:23So, many other attributes.
03:25And I think it is important to have our own identity and not get caught up in trying to play
03:30that other teams.
03:31It doesn't mean you can take little things from each different teams you play, like probably club football you do
03:36as well.
03:37But ultimately it's about being in London and showing our identity, you know, especially in the bigger games as well.
03:46Hi, Harry.
03:47Can I ask you a question about, obviously, your future and your contract is expiring at Bayern this year.
03:53How you juggle.
03:54I know you've been talking with them over a contract.
03:56Can you maybe update us on how that's going?
03:58But how you also juggle, I guess, an element of uncertainty going into a new season in the best form
04:06of your life?
04:07Yeah, no.
04:08Torts are going well.
04:09I've been quite open and honest about that.
04:11We're still in talks now.
04:12And I think they are progressing in the right way.
04:16Both sides have been fairly relaxed about it because I think everyone can see I'm happy there.
04:21The way I'm performing, the way I talk off the pitch, I think it's just open and honest.
04:26So, yeah, I'm hoping that something gets done.
04:30In terms of how it's kind of, yeah, affecting me or mentally, I think I just kind of get on
04:35with these things.
04:37I like to just take seasons as they come.
04:39I'm still contracted for another nine months officially.
04:41So from that point of view, nothing really changes.
04:45But, yeah, from, you know, over this camp, obviously, I'm trying to concentrate more on being here, being with England.
04:51And those contract talks can hold fire and it's for, you know, the team behind me to talk and deal
04:57with those things.
04:58But, yeah, I think over the next month or so, there should be some sort of decision.
05:02And I think it will be a positive one.
05:04And can I ask you a question specifically about the years of post-match recovery and your dedication to that?
05:11And now you're in your mid-30s, many people say coming to the end, but I know you're sort of
05:19in your best form.
05:20But do you feel that all of those years of dedication post-match, they're all coming to fruition now?
05:28Yeah, 100%.
05:29I think recovery is such a big thing in our game and especially with the schedules, with the seasons almost
05:37just being relentless, three-week break you go again.
05:41So recovery becomes the biggest part of that.
05:43I think the foundation I built from an early age and that's down to having good people around me and
05:48good systems around me to learn about it earlier with nutrition, recovery, gym,
05:54all the things that help put you in a good place, I think has led to me being here now
05:58and feeling as good as I am.
06:01Yeah, football, I think in general and sport in general has changed over the last 10 years or so.
06:07And there's a lot more talk, a lot more understanding about performance and the recovery base of it.
06:12And it wouldn't surprise me if you see more and more players playing at a higher level for longer.
06:17And you've seen a little bit of that with Ronaldo and Modric and Messi and Lewandowski
06:22and these guys who continuously perform into mid-30s, late-30s.
06:27And that's my ambition as well.
06:30I think sometimes it's so easy just to get to this age and just think about what's coming to the
06:36end.
06:36But why not just keep pushing until your body says it's had enough or your mind says it's had enough.
06:42And you know Tom Brady's a big idol on mine.
06:45He played until 44 at the highest level.
06:48So it shows that it is possible in sport.
06:49It takes a lot of dedication and maybe even more when you get to a certain age.
06:55But, you know, I enjoy that part of it.
06:58And I think it's definitely put me in a good place right now.
07:01Harry, Amy Lewis, Mighty Le News.
07:03This sort of question is two parts, I suppose.
07:06Firstly, how did you get the summer and the World Cup?
07:10How did you get that behind the scenes out of your system?
07:13And I know you're a professional.
07:14But when you get home, you know, living at home, how did you get that out of your system?
07:17And also, Thomas just said, you know, we need to prove a point tomorrow.
07:21How much do you feel that you do need a win tomorrow?
07:25Yeah, I think, yeah, first question, it's not easy to get over.
07:30But you kind of don't have a choice.
07:32You know, I think it's something that's probably not spoke about a lot.
07:35But when you're in that bubble, when you're in that environment for seven weeks,
07:39you're together, you're the same routine, highest pressure, biggest games.
07:42And then, you know, you go out and all of a sudden you're back to reality almost.
07:47Back home, being a husband, being a father.
07:51You've been away from your family a long time.
07:53So I think that takes an element of it away.
07:55It's still there, obviously.
07:57But you learn to get back to normal life and enjoy being with your kids.
08:00And, you know, they're the most important thing.
08:03So they help you get over it.
08:05But I think also it takes months.
08:08It takes a long time to fully get over it.
08:10I think you heal whilst you're kind of moving on.
08:14There's still moments I think about it.
08:16And I'm sure the team think about it.
08:18And what could have been and what if.
08:19And especially meeting up again here and seeing everyone again
08:23and wearing the badge and all those things, for sure.
08:26It stays in your mind.
08:28But, yeah, I think that's where tomorrow comes into it.
08:30I think the quicker you can start putting in good performances,
08:33especially against bigger teams.
08:34So I think it's a good thing that we're playing against Spain and Croatia
08:38and these top teams coming up.
08:40Because if you do win those games,
08:42I think it then brings you back to the excitement of what's to come,
08:44the Nations League.
08:45Can we win the Nations League?
08:46Can we win the Euros in a couple of years?
08:48And so, yeah, I think tomorrow is important from that side of things,
08:52just from a momentum.
08:54And if we can get a good result, a good performance tomorrow,
08:57I think that will kind of push us on for the rest of this campaign
09:00and then hopefully into the rest of the year as well.
09:03Just building up to this game,
09:04there's been a lot of talk about the players,
09:06not just who are here, but who aren't here.
09:09How convinced are you that your teammates feel as proud as you do
09:13to put on the England shirt?
09:15And also, Thomas obviously just talked about the fact
09:17that there's four games, I think it was, in 11 days.
09:20Does that play into it?
09:21Or are you concerned about that pride?
09:23No, I'm not concerned.
09:24I think everyone is extremely proud to be an England player.
09:27And whenever they're called up,
09:28I think they are, of course, excited and proud to wear the shirt.
09:32I spoke a little bit about this in the week.
09:34Everyone has their own individual circumstance
09:35and different physical situations, mental situations.
09:40So that's down to the player and the coach to talk and to figure out.
09:45It's a new camp for us in terms of being away for two and a half weeks
09:49during the season and four games in 11 days.
09:52It is tough.
09:52It's going to be a bit of a grueling schedule.
09:55But, yeah, from my point of view, I look forward to those things.
09:58I think everyone showcases their pride, I guess, in different ways.
10:03Some are more outspoken.
10:04Some keep it to themselves.
10:05But I think ultimately it's about what you do on the pitch,
10:08what you do on the training pitch.
10:09That's the most important thing for me.
10:11And just from the start of this week,
10:13the training has been at the highest level.
10:15I've been excited to be back on the pitch with the boys.
10:18And it's the same tomorrow.
10:19You're at Wembley.
10:20You're playing the world champions.
10:22There's no bigger game to kind of get back into in an English shirt.
10:26And I'm excited for that.
10:29Harry, hi.
10:30Good luck tomorrow.
10:32Thank you.
10:32There'll be many tributes tomorrow to Kevin Keegan, the FA, I think,
10:36and certainly the fans have got things prepared.
10:40You made a similar journey going from England to Germany.
10:43How aware are you of Kevin's journey?
10:46And also there was such an emotional reaction in Germany when Kevin passed away
10:51as well as obviously over here.
10:52Yeah, I think when I went to Bayern, I wouldn't say I know too much about it.
10:58But I think what I learned about it is there's a lot of German fans who are Kevin Keegan fans,
11:03you know, and I think he had a really big impact in Germany.
11:07And, you know, a lot of people, a lot of fans have spoke to me about me
11:11having similar impact in terms of coming over and being myself both on the pitch,
11:16off the pitch, and I've gained a lot of German fans from that.
11:19And I think he definitely done that.
11:22Yeah, I mean, him as a player, of course, was a little bit early for me.
11:26But you hear, one, how good a player he was, but also how good a person he was.
11:31And I think that's why you've seen the reaction both in England,
11:35but also across Europe, across the world.
11:37And, yeah, he's a big part of English history.
11:40It's a very, maybe a sad day, but I think a good moment to celebrate him at Wembley tomorrow night.
11:46There's a lot of discussion about where's the next number nine coming from.
11:50We've got loads of very good number tens, wide players.
11:54And I know it's something the Football Association are looking at.
11:58Why do you think it is? Because you are quite a rare breed.
12:01Yeah, the number nine is becoming more rare, for sure.
12:06Yeah, maybe an era, a style of play change.
12:12You know, a lot of the players growing up now would have been watching
12:14Ronaldo and Messi and Neymar and these amazing wingers.
12:17And, you know, for example, when I was growing up, it was different.
12:21There was a lot of number nines, your Shearer, your Owens, your Roonies,
12:24your Shernums, your Fowlers and Coles.
12:27And so football has changed a little bit.
12:29Yeah, and I think it does have an impact when you're young and you're watching your favourite players.
12:33And also football in terms of tactically has changed, more force nines,
12:38more, I guess, impact on possession and wingers coming in and loads of these things.
12:44So, yeah, from my point of view, I don't know why,
12:48because I love scoring goals and it's the best feeling in the world.
12:52So, but it is just an era thing.
12:54I don't think we should be too worried about it.
12:58One, hopefully I'm playing for a long time still.
13:01But two, there's always, you know, a player who, a young player or a player who maybe
13:07ain't spoke about yet, but will start doing well and start coming through.
13:10And then, you know, it'll be can they handle the pressure and handle the bigger stage.
13:15And that's all part and parcel of it.
13:16You know, when I was younger and 18, 19,
13:20I don't think there would be many people expecting me to go on and do what I've done.
13:23And so you have to give people a chance as well.
13:28Yeah, maybe it'd be nice to see more number nines, young number nines get chances on the biggest stage.
13:33I was lucky to have someone like Tim Sherwood, Maurizio Pochettino, who gave me the chance.
13:38It could have easily been looked over and then maybe my journey is a little bit different.
13:42So, yeah, I'd love to see more just playing and also playing on a consistent basis,
13:48having time to learn and adapt.
13:50And yeah, I guess time will tell.
13:52So we'll have to wait and see.
13:55Hi, Harry.
13:57Just on this debate around style, you obviously played for England for a long time.
14:01Do you feel this identity issue is something that's kind of always been there with England?
14:06That people kind of, regardless of who the manager is,
14:08there's always this kind of debate about how England should play.
14:11Do we quite have our own identity as a country or as a national team?
14:15Yeah, I think so.
14:16I think the thing about it is, I think there's a lot of national teams
14:22and a lot of good national teams out there who would be looking at us,
14:25thinking how they got to semifinals, how they got to finals,
14:27how can we be more like England?
14:29I think it's a very English thing to always maybe look elsewhere
14:32and try and look at something different.
14:34But yeah, the reality is we've got one of the best records in recent history in national level.
14:40And we do have identity, even with Gareth and with Thomas.
14:45And a lot of that is togetherness.
14:47A lot of that is power and strength and physicality.
14:53And I just think in the biggest moments, we haven't quite shown that
14:57and haven't quite shown our true self.
14:59I think Argentina was the prime example of that.
15:02I think we spoke a lot about trying to win.
15:04And if we lose, trying to win, then you take it on the chin,
15:07you shake hands and you move on.
15:08I think the last half hour of that Argentina game
15:12and maybe the Croatia game in 2018
15:14and maybe the Italy game in Euros,
15:17we spent a lot of that game trying not to lose
15:19and you end up losing anyway.
15:21And I think that's the hardest part to take.
15:23And also not just players, but from a fan's point of view,
15:25if you go and you try and win 2-0, 3-0 and you end up losing,
15:29I think it's a lot easier to accept.
15:30So I think that's the final shift.
15:33And that's a big shift,
15:34but I think it's mentality as well as anything else.
15:37So until you're put in those situations again,
15:41you never really know.
15:42But I think a lot of our feeling coming off the Argentina game
15:46is that we can't let something like that happen again.
15:48But yeah, we're only going to be judged, obviously,
15:51the next time we're in a situation like that.
15:53I mean, I guess this is the million dollar question,
15:55but how do you make sure it doesn't happen again?
15:57What needs to change?
15:59Yeah, it comes down to us as players, I guess.
16:02I think a bit more on the leadership.
16:04Making sure that in those situations where we have a clearer mind,
16:10everyone as a group,
16:11and can we make the better decisions in those biggest moments,
16:15I think it's so natural to do what we've done maybe in the past
16:19and try and hang on.
16:20And we've done very well in certain situations like Mexico
16:24and even Norway towards the end.
16:27But if I'm looking at a performance that I think should be our blueprint,
16:32really, is the second half against Croatia.
16:35I think we went into that game with a little bit of nerves,
16:39with a little bit of that mentality.
16:40And in the halftime, obviously, Thomas spoke really well.
16:42And then you saw a complete shift in our mentality and how we performed.
16:45We was free to up.
16:47We went even more.
16:49We went for the tap.
16:49We bring players on.
16:51We went for the kill.
16:53And we ended up just having too much for them.
16:55And yeah, that's kind of how we need to be in every situation,
16:59in the biggest games, under the biggest pressure.
17:03If we can still have that mindset and clear mindset,
17:05I think it would be a big difference.
17:06We've got four queued up.
17:08Give us one question per person.
17:09That'd be great.
17:13Hi, Aaron.
17:14You play Spain tomorrow,
17:16defending European champion, defending world champion.
17:18What do you think you can learn from this game?
17:21And how do you think this game can help you reach the next step you just mentioned?
17:25Yeah, we're playing against the best team in the world right now
17:27and the best team in the world over the last three years.
17:31I say we're not far behind.
17:32We're probably second or third or behind in terms of being one of the best teams.
17:38So you've got two of the best national teams going toe-to-toe tomorrow.
17:42I think, yeah, from our point of view,
17:45it is an important game to showcase ourselves.
17:48And if we do win, I think it will be a big boost for us in confidence
17:52and for the rest of the Nations League and also leading up to the Euros.
17:58And you want to test yourself against the best.
18:00That's just the reality.
18:01If you want to win big tournaments, you're going to have to play these type of games.
18:04And, yeah, with it being at Wembley and first game after the World Cup,
18:09I think there is a good excitement amongst the players, the fans,
18:12and ultimately to see how we carry on from a lot of good things that we've done together.
18:18So, yeah, that's going to be our aim.
18:20And hopefully it can be a positive night for us.
18:23Hi, Harry.
18:24One of those positives from the World Cup was you and Drew Bellingham combining so well.
18:28Could you just tell us a little bit about your reflections on that partnership,
18:30how it developed during that tournament, and maybe how you can hurt Spain together tomorrow?
18:34Yeah, for sure.
18:36Yeah, first of all, congrats to Jude as well.
18:38Just won Men's Player of the Year.
18:40Great for him to achieve that.
18:42He had an amazing year for us.
18:44Incredible World Cup.
18:45Yeah, I spoke a little bit about it not long ago.
18:48I think we built up a really good relationship on the pitch during that period,
18:52but also off the pitch as well, got to know each other even more.
18:55And I think you saw that in the World Cup translate,
18:58and we enjoyed, you know, playing with each other.
19:03We knew we were both in great form and we were dangerous,
19:06and we felt like, you know, we were pushing the team along and helping the team.
19:10And, yeah, to score six and seven goals together in a World Cup campaign is,
19:16yeah, as a partnership, I guess, one of the best there's ever been,
19:19especially from an England point of view.
19:21So, a lot of good things.
19:23And, yeah, from our point of view, we hope we can just continue that into tomorrow.
19:27I think we've both started the season really well.
19:29We're both feeling good, feeling fresh, had a good week training.
19:32And I think that brings the best out in both of us,
19:35pushing each other to see what levels we can reach.
19:38And tomorrow will be no different.
19:40Hopefully we can both put in a great performance and help the team get the result we want.
19:46Hi, Harry.
19:46Jonas from Danish Television.
19:48Spain is a team who's very dominated by an amazing Barcelona team.
19:51Have you talked more with Anthony Gordon this week,
19:53or maybe you two plays them all the time?
19:56Not really, no.
19:58Yeah, I wouldn't say specifically individuals, you know, as a group.
20:02And with the coach, obviously, we've looked at them as a team
20:04and what they do well, what we feel like we can hurt them with.
20:08But, yeah, I think ultimately we know.
20:10I think a lot of us have played against the players before.
20:13And we know the threats they pros.
20:15We know how they like to be dominant with the ball and be patient
20:18and try and keep the game at their pace.
20:22And it's easier said than done, but it's down to us to try and disrupt that
20:26and try and, yeah, I guess showcase our skill set tomorrow,
20:31especially being at home.
20:33But, yeah, from Jude and Ant's point of view, I think for them,
20:37you know, they've got their England hat on now, England shirt,
20:39and they're focused on, yeah, trying to win the game tomorrow.
20:44Hi, Harry.
20:46Talia from BCombs.
20:47You spoke just a while ago about leadership.
20:49And I was wondering about the younger players or the newer players to the squad.
20:54And how do you approach their integration into the squad?
20:57I know Thomas just mentioned as well your own goals, obviously, within the league
21:00and wanting to get to the quarterfinals, you know, at best.
21:03Well, at minimum, but hopefully more than that at best.
21:06So, yeah, how do you balance the integration of, I guess,
21:09the more inexperience coming from someone who's experienced as yourself?
21:12How do you balance making sure that the younger players can also be nurtured
21:16in the best way whilst also making sure that we're getting the results that we need?
21:19Yeah, I think there's been a big strength of ours, to be honest.
21:22I think any new player or any player who maybe hasn't been here for a while
21:26coming back into the team has felt like they could be themselves
21:30right away.
21:31I think that's important.
21:31Whatever they've done at club level to get here is what they should continue to do.
21:35They don't have to change anything other than being themselves.
21:40The way, from an experience point of view, I think we like to showcase it
21:45is to lead by example.
21:47You know, there's a lot of us still here.
21:49That was in the World Cup in the summer.
21:51And the way we train, the way we approach games,
21:54I think it's a vital part of that.
21:57From an outside point of view is to be yourself and be relaxed
22:00and enjoy each other's company and get to know one another on the pitch
22:03is to work hard and drive standards and push each other
22:07and then take that into the game.
22:09So, yeah, I think everyone, any young or new players coming in,
22:14I'd like to think they feel comfortable and able to be themselves
22:17and feel free.
22:19And ultimately, as long as you're doing what you need to do on the pitch
22:23and work hard, then, you know, you're not going to have no issues here.
22:26Amazing.
22:27Good luck.
22:27Thank you.
22:33Hi, Aaron.
22:34Hi.
22:34Slightly more lighthearted.
22:37Wonderwall was the soundtrack to your summer at the World Cup
22:41and, obviously, all the Indian fans loved it.
22:44Since then, Oasis have announced a tour for next summer.
22:47Lots of fans are trying to get ticket codes and scramble for that.
22:50I'm sure you don't have to get involved in that.
22:52But I did wonder whether, I mean, I don't know what your plans are
22:56for next summer, but whether you'll try to get the lads together
22:58and maybe go as a group to one of the Oasis shows
23:00and relive a bit of that.
23:02That's a good show, actually.
23:03I mean, definitely something if maybe we win the Nations League,
23:06we can go and celebrate and have a good time together.
23:11They're actually doing a show in Munich, as well,
23:12which I know a lot of the German and a lot of the Bayern players
23:16and fans are excited for.
23:17So, yeah, I've never actually seen them live before.
23:20So, even for me, it would be pretty cool.
23:23But I haven't spoke about it yet, but for sure, now it's on the radar.
23:26Hopefully, we have a successful year and summer
23:29and then maybe we can celebrate together with an Oasis concert.
23:33Thanks, everyone.
23:34Cheers for time to...
23:34Thank you.
23:36Thanks, Aaron.
23:37Thank you.
