00:00And on Friday, Brazilian President Lula da Silva held a rally in Recife in the state of Pernambuco
00:06as part of his last campaigning events ahead of the upcoming October 4th general election.
00:11Our correspondent Baramir with the details.
00:16I'm in Recife where President Lula has just given a rousing campaign speech
00:21after a rally that saw tens of thousands of people march down the streets
00:25from Santo António neighborhood to Marcos Eredo, the original founding part of the city of Recife.
00:32Now this was a surprise visit because of the unusual characteristics of politics in northeastern Brazil.
00:40Both of the major candidates for governor, João Campos and Raquel Lira,
00:45are saying that they support President Lula in this year's elections.
00:48However, because of a party coalition between Campos's Socialist Party and the Works Party,
00:54Lula decided the last way to show up and support his campaigns running Maytronk.
01:01Also a grand senatorial and a bunch of blessings from Congress in the Pernambuco this year.
01:08During this speech, Lula emphasized the importance that the men were holding up and stop asking for women,
01:15asking their wives where their cows are, where they're under their arms, doing their dishes.
01:20He called for an anti-phemicide.
01:21If a man ever feels the urge to beat his partner, he should just leave the household.
01:28And he also reminded the audience in Pernambuco of all the accomplishments he's brought to the northeast during his presence.
01:37He said, never again will the northeast of Brazil be treated like a fourth-category partner for country.
01:42And he asked the audience what Jair Bolsonaro did when he was president of Brazil for northeast of Brazil,
01:50and they never said anything because he didn't really do that much.
01:53So it's over now.
01:55Lula is off to Sao Paulo.
01:57He has his second rally of the day on Amadina Paulista, five tonight.
02:01And then he's going to meet with a group of businessmen.
02:03And as he told the audience today, come up with a plan to ban online betting in Brazil.
