00:00RPGs have always been a huge part of video game culture. Arguably the biggest part,
00:04and the Gothic series, especially the first game, has always maintained a loyal, loving fanbase,
00:09despite the fact it's been well over a decade since the series had a new installment. That's
00:13about to change when Gothic 1 Remake launches June 5th, 2026. But why has the series stood
00:18the test of time? Well, for starters, it's not afraid to be a bit weird. RPGs have always loved
00:23getting their Quircom, from the adoring fan in Oblivion to that ogre scene in Baldur's Gate 3.
00:27Gothic 1 is no exception. It's a fascinatingly surreal story about a fantasy prison colony
00:32that's become self-governing, but not quite free. Trapped under a dome they can't escape from,
00:37but managing to build a semi-functional society in this enforced isolation nonetheless. It's like
00:42somebody took the prison setting that so many role-playing games use for the tutorial area,
00:46and expanded that into a whole game. It's infused with a criminal underworld energy, mixed in with
00:51fantasy tropes and wry humour. The dome that confines you was summoned by mages who accidentally
00:55did so with themselves inside. Are you excited for the weirdness that is Gothic 1 Remake?
