00:00The last week has been kind of crazy.
00:03What was going through your mind, especially on Saturday,
00:06because that was so odd with the weather forecast being as bad as it was,
00:10the uncertainty of did you just call your last game
00:13or is there going to be another game,
00:15and then everything that went around it,
00:16the players coming out on Sunday, which was awesome.
00:19What was those 48 hours like for you?
00:22Well, let's back up and start with Saturday
00:24because the weather forecast being what it was for Sunday
00:28really meant that we might have to pivot.
00:32And when I say we, I'm kind of taking myself out of the equation
00:34because Mets management from ownership on down were just splendid to me
00:40in just conceiving the idea of having a retirement ceremony on Sunday,
00:46the last day of the regular season, at home.
00:48And because we knew the risks with the weather,
00:52we discussed various options on Saturday,
00:55one of which was going to be to take the ceremony off the field,
00:59have kind of a private reception for friends and family,
01:02and then potentially do the ceremony next year on opening weekend,
01:08as turned out to be the case.
01:10And as late as very early on Sunday morning,
01:15they were still hoping to be able to get things in as planned
01:18because the weather forecast looked a little better.
01:20And as it turned out, it did not rain terribly hard during the game.
01:25But we knew that because of the weather,
01:26there wouldn't be that many people there.
01:28It would be uncomfortable.
01:29I mean, I had some friends in their 80s that were going to be down there.
01:32I couldn't ask Art Shamsky, Cleon Jones, Marv Albert, and others
01:35to, you know, sit out there in the rain.
01:37That didn't make sense.
01:38So they pivoted so beautifully
01:41and put together a special occasion for family and friends before the game,
01:46which was absolutely wonderful.
01:48And I've just got to throw the flowers out to the proper people
01:51because it all starts with Steve and Alex Cohen.
01:54They are nothing short of fabulous.
01:56And the way they've treated my family and me
01:58is something that you could only dream of
02:00when you know that you're going to be working for a team
02:02with an ownership change pending.
