00:00It's a sad state of affairs regarding women's cricket in the Caribbean.
00:04So says cricket commentator Alex Jordan, who was disappointed with a lack of support during the 2026 Lima Call WCPL.
00:11The thing about women's cricket is that it's very late developing in our part of the world, even after we
00:16won the T20 World Cup in 2016.
00:18We are guilty of not having made enough movement since then in the development of the women
00:26and in the marketing and commercialization of the women's game.
00:30Looking at the West Indies side, all-rounder Hayley Matthews continues to shine
00:34and even scored her 13th ODI 100 against Zimbabwe on Thursday.
00:38Despite that, Jordan says it's hurtful that Matthews cannot pull the crowds at home.
00:44What a wonderful knock from her.
00:45Someone like a Hayley Matthews, for example, is the best all-rounder in the world.
00:49She's from Barbados, she's on the Barbados Tridents, and we need to use her more as a marketing tool.
00:55But, you know, it's a systemic absence of women in the professional game and with these opportunities over decades.
01:02So in trying to address that, it's going to take a systemic approach in scheduling, in ticket prices, in fiscal
01:11incentives and other incentives.
01:13So what's the solution to all this?
01:15According to Jordan, it's time to educate the fans in the Caribbean about the women's game so that stadiums can
01:21no longer be ghost towns.
01:22If we could just really flesh out and tell the wondrous and wonderful uplifting stories of a lot of these
01:29cricketers, women cricketers,
01:31I think we could get buy-in on that level as well.
01:35I know that girl.
01:36She's brilliant.
01:37I'm going to go and watch her.
01:38So I'm hoping for a bigger, better turnout in crowds for sure in the women's CPL 2027.
01:44Since its inception in 2022, the women's CPL saw an increase for the first time this year from three teams
01:51to four,
01:52with Jamaica Empress being the newest franchise.
01:56Then with know why in tips to export.
01:57It's an active mission and it's multi-ec kardeş.
